I'm so sorry! That sounds terrible! My first insertion was horribly painful. No bleeding like you, but I may have flat out YELLED, "I'm never having children!" LOL! And then I had a vasovagal reaction and nearly passed out in the lobby.
For my second one, I took an Ativan before and was so freaking nervous that the doc gave me a local. Brief pinching sensation for that but overall MUCH better. I really think that local anesthetic should be considered the standard of care for these!
My gyn gave me cytotec and a local. I didn't ask for either.
I cannot believe some people are doing without either of these things
My first was with cytotec but no local. The second was with a local but no cytotec and was far less painful than the first.

Ugh. I need to make the decision on birth control soon and I don't know what to do. I got pregnant on the mini pill and will have 4 kids with 3 of them under 2. I do not want to get pregnant again any time soon.

Do you think there's a parallel message board somewhere where men are complaining about screaming, bleeding, and fainting during a vasectomy? I only ever hear positive experiences. SO didn't even take his prescribed painkillers afterward which is insane to me because I would've swallowed one or two just to reward myself with a nice buzz for getting my system rewired in the first place.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
But, you've had children! That's supposed to make it easier.
It's not the kids - it's the fact that your cervix is floppy from dilating to 10" and passing a baby head through it.
I thank my 99th percentile headed first child for the fact that my IUD insertion was practically painless. Between that and the three pushes to get my 2nd kid out, I suspect my cervix looks some sort of floppy Jim Henson creation.
MW, I'm sorry it sucked so bad. I hope it settles well in there and the next 5 years of no effort BC are worth it.
And on that note, I'm going to finally call to get mine again. I DO NOT WANT a third kid. But MH doesn't trust me to stick to that decision in 2 years when Sizzli isn't squishy anymore so he refuses to get snipped yet.
You should totally have a third kid. That way I might actually be able to give you the blanket I started for Sizzli but never finished.
I'm a big proponent of IUDs but not for myself lol. I'm glad they're increasing in popularity though.
Just for me personally I hate the unknown of how your body is going to react to it and I don't want to waste money and time on something that isn't going to work out.
But I think every teenage girl should get one! I think nexplanon is another great option. LARCs need to be more popular among teens!
i couldnt in good conscious have LB get one, if it is even half as painful as mine was.
and i thought it was more painful with a cervix that never experienced labor and delivery?
the forcing open of my cervix wasn't even the most painful part. the measuring of my uterus was. i almost kicked my OB in the face.
AFTER those two things, the actual insertion was ok. if i could have skipped the first two steps, i would have been ok. not like it felt licked on by kittens or anything but no where near my most painful experiences.
I had one prior to kids. It was not painful. But I was given a megadose of ibu and a cytotec to take before insertion. The cytotec makes it easier.

they arent' supposed to sleep with blankets until they're like 12 years old anyway (actually 2 years? something ridiculous anyway. I go with once they can sit up on their own they can have a blanky) so I firmly support blankets as 1 year birthday presents. Also his sister has twice the fuzzy blanket collection he does so he needs more.

Mine was probably the most pain I've ever experienced (no kids obviously) but after a week the light cramping stopped and it's been amazing ever since (my first period lasted like two weeks, but it was light and I haven't had once since; got it at the end of September). I don't regret it for a second.
Inserting mine was so miserable that I had to be put under to do it. My primary doctor tried and when she physically couldn't get it in I was referred to an OBGYN who couldn't manage it as well. It turns out that the angle of cervix and uterus is so off that my OBGYN admitted that she wasn't sure it would go in at all. I'm dreading getting it removed in a few years.
I've partially expelled 2 (Paragards), which then had to be completed by my GYN, and had 1 (Mirena) removed at the end of its life. All three were just like a pinch. Ouch for a second, then no problem. Similar to the discomfort of a pap. So, at least I can speak to it being possible to have really bad pain on insertion and then not bad on removal.

I'm dying at the visual!
I'm sorry the insertion sucked so much! I loved mine and will consider it again after #2 is born.

I hope that's true for me. No one I know had such an awful time getting one in so I have no frame of reference for getting it out. I have three more years left on it before DH and I have the talk about putting in a new one or getting him snipped.
my first insertion was very very bad. My cervix is difficult to dialate and it took forever. I was also thinking "ok surely it's almost over...." nope. I had horrible horrible cramping afterward. Like terrible period cramps for 24 hours. I was taking 2 ibuprofin every 2 hours and it did nothing.
I've never given birth, so my gyno gave me the new Skyla IUD, which is apparently the smallest one on the market. She measured me for a Mirena and it didn't fit. Measuring for the Mirena was VERY painful, and the insertion was worse. I'd say these were the two most painful experiences of my life until I got a UTI. However, all the pain went away after about three hours, so I'd still consider it a fair trade off for three years of birth control.

I got neither. My OB told me that it shouldn't be so bad since I had a med free birth. I was like, "oh, so it should be better than that terribly painful unplanned experience? Cool."
For the record, in my experience, the insertion was a little worse than bad period cramps.
I also went in for Paraguard and didn't measure big enough. I ended up with skyla and while the insertion hurt like a bitch, it has been so, so worth it! I would definitely do it again.
People got drugs and/or under local for their insertion? Wtf. I wanted drugs :stomps feet:
I just showed up and she put it then I left. Interesting.
The only pain was when the IUD was placed/attached to the uterus. It felt like a very bad period cramp. It faded within the hour.
But, I ended up the hospital a couple days later for a serious kidney infection. The urologist believes bateria was kicked up during the insertion/retraction which got into my urinary tract and voila 6 days in the hospital. Whomp, whomp.
I had two failed insertions. The first one I was 10 weeks PP and it hurt so, so bad. I gave birth two times med-free so I have a pretty high pain tolerance. They tried for a while and gave up since they couldn't get in.
The second time I came back 2 weeks later and they took something that made me dilate, then they got it in (hurt like a bitch again). Come strings check, it wasn't there!
The third time thankfully was soooo much better.
Not sure what was going on with this, but I'm thankful I've had it for almost two years. It's great not to have worry about birth control or periods!

My insertion wasn't bad but the next two days or so was horrible! My dr gave me flexeril and Valium and I pretty much took them all day for the first day. I HATED it the first 6 months but now it's the best. I'm actually dreading taking it out to ttc next year.

My insertion only hurt for 15-20 seconds, but I bled for over 8 weeks. I was having bleeding problems before hand though, which was the reason (well one of them) that I was getting the IUD in the first place. I got the Mirena and I have to say that once I finally stopped bleeding, my periods have been so light.

My first insertion was painful and I spent the rest of the day in bed with terrible cramps. The cramping lasted for a few weeks and sucked.
The second insertion was less painful and I barely had any cramping afterwards.
My third (current) insertion was painful for a few minutes and that was about it. The strings on this one have been "sucked up" into my cervix, though, so I don't know they are getting that thing out. I'm trying not to think about it yet. (Ultrasounds confirmed it's still there and in the right place.) I already told DH that when this one comes out he's getting snipped, but to be honest, I haven't had a period in 12 years and am not excited about it coming back, so we'll see...

I'm sorry, MW.
The only positive thing that happened at my D&E this year was that they inserted Mirena after the D&E while I was still knocked out. I suspect it otherwise would not have been a pleasant experience.

I just had mine out last week after 5.5 years. It practically fell out. The GYN said, "Okay, I just did your pap, now I'll...well, there it goes" and it was out. I hope everyone here has a similar experience.
