Has anyone had this with any of their pregnancies? My pregnancy with DD was so, so easy. I'm apparently paying for that now. I had HG in the beginning until about 17 weeks and now at just days until 30 weeks I have SPD. My OB is referring me to PT, but other than that anyone have any tips or advice?

I do, but didn't find out until after I delivered #1 and started trying to run distances again. I got pregnant again before I could do anything about it though Now that 2.0 is here, I need to do PT. I don't have any advice for now, but can offer commiseration. I am going to be following this post as well!

It's terrible. I never sought treatment but some things that can help somewhat are not lifting anything remotely heavy, not squatting, and sleep with a pillow between your knees. DH is in charge of laundry and child hefting. If I need to do something down low I sit on the ground.
I was never diagnosed officially but yes. I slept sitting up or in my recliner from like week 29 thru the end because I couldn't sleep on my side, it hurt so bad. I was miserable and hated when people said stuff like "sleep while you can!"
I thought it would go away pretty quickly after birth and at my 6 week checkup we talked and she told me I could go to PT and I decided to wait because I didn't want to take MORE time off of work for appointments and it would cause me to be away from my daughter even more. I did still have some soreness 12 weeks out but it did eventually work out.
I just want to commiserate with you. It is AWFUL. I had that and terrible plantar fasciitis from the extra weight (I'm overweight to begin so it was really hard on my body to be pregnant). So I was miserable sitting, laying, and standing.
Did you find that you hurt after sleeping in the recliner at all? I always feel at least 95% fine when I'm sitting, but I've noticed that at the end of the day when I first get up from the couch to go to bed at night I have trouble getting up because of the sudden hit of pain.
Yes, very badly with the girls. It started around 14 weeks and just became worse as time went on. I had a hip binder but it didn't help much really. I did do pt after they were born for this and DR.
I'm sorry, I don't have any great advice. It was just plain miserable.
I appreciate your honesty though @callmefia. I've never heard of this and only figured out this weekend that it was probably the issue that suddenly started hurting on Thursday after I googled "broken pelvis third trimester" and read something about it. Thankfully I had a pre-scheduled appointment with my OB this morning and she confirmed that was likely the case (SPD).
Did you or katiescarlett notice that it effected your delivery? My OB said it doesn't mean I'll need a c-section (I had a vaginal with my first and that's my preference again if I can), but that in extreme cases it could mean you need to just go straight to a c-section. I'm wondering if there's anything I should expect to be different with the delivery, even if it's a vaginal one, just because of the SPD.

I had this and ended up going to a chiropractor a couple of times a week right before I delivered. Relief was hit or miss after an appointment. Sometimes, I would feel better for days after and other times I wouldn't feel any relief.
I soak in warm epsom salt baths every other night or so. That (very temporarily) helped. Sleeping was awful. The slightest movement caused such significant pain.
Sitting was the most comfortable position to be in. However, I didn't have a seat to sleep in. I was a mess!
OH! And I went to the pool in my gym about 3-4 times and that made things WORSE and hurt for DAYS.
I did with both pregnancies. I did PT with DS starting around 32 weeks and started in the 20s with DD. The PT gave me four exercises that I did at home and then I saw him twice a week. I saw a chiro, too.
Both of my labor and deliveries were very fast. I have no idea if that was related at all. DD shot out in two pushes. H said it was like she was on a slide. LOL
The good news? I pretty much felt instantly better after they were born as far as being able to move normally, roll over, and stand up without pain. I did continue to see my PT for about 12 weeks after they were born.

PS - I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It was the toughest pregnancy issue for me.
I was induced, highly medicated and was able to deliver vaginally. I'm pretty sure the pain went away instantly. I can't remember hurting from SPD after I left the hospital.

This is what I'm hoping for! When I asked my OB how to fix it she said having the baby is really the only "cure", but PT could help. Since I still have 10ish weeks before delivery, that didn't make me feel super hopeful.
I pushed DD out in about 5 pushes, so I hope it'll be that easy again though I don't know that this pain will make up for it if it's easier to push her out.

Yeah, DD2 is definitely my last! I am so sorry this is happening to you. It's the pits for sure.

We've been team green on both pregnancies, and I asked DH this weekend if he'd feel disappointed if this is another girl and I decide I can't go through another pregnancy. He said while he'd obviously enjoy a boy, he'd be perfectly happy as the father to two girls. While that might have just been something he said so his painfully pregnant wife didn't butcher him in his sleep, I appreciated knowing that the decision on #3, which we did really think we'd have after the easy DD pregnancy, is more on if I think I want to put my body through it again.
It kind of helped at night to have a pillow between my legs. If I needed to roll over, I would squeeze the pillow with my legs and roll them over together.
I went to PT, but they were no help. I know there are PTs who are more experienced with it, though. Mine didn't seem to have a clue & refused to believe me that it wasn't sciatica.
The good news is that I felt IMMEDIATELY better after giving birth. I nearly skipped to the bathroom and cried tears of joy the first time I stood up after giving birth.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. I had this with my most recent pregnancy and it was so horrible. My OB prescribed a girdle (prenatal cradle-they sell them on amazon) and I wore that 24/7. I'm not sure if it actually helped, but I was so desperate for any relief. I never had any issues after delivery.

I definitely felt it when I DIDN'T wear my prenatal cradle! I didn't get the one that had crotch straps, but if it would have helped more I would have.

I don't think it affected delivery at all. I was still a little sore after delivery in the pubic bone area for a few weeks but it wasn't as bad. Good luck-pregnancy can be rough!
Try to avoid activities where you are in single leg stance or seperating your legs - instead of standing to put your pants on, sit down. When getting in/out of car, swing both legs together. Sleep with a pillow between your legs and roll with legs together. Shorten your walking stride to limit separation of the symphysis. Avoid stairs and squats/half kneeling if possible.
Yes, I had it from about 20 weeks on. It was awful.
The only comfortable position for me was sitting on an exercise ball. Icing the area helped the SPD, but wasn't exactly comfortable for the rest of that region
The good news is that the pain went away as soon as I got my epidural, and never returned.
How did you know it was SPD vs regular pregnancy aches and pains? I had some soreness last time but this time it has been worse and started earlier. My doctor kind of brushed me off.
Mine was really intense, sharp pains. It often felt like bone was directly hitting another bone. The general pain was a bone pain instead of a muscle pain, if that makes sense. It felt like someone kicked me in the crotch with a steel-toed boot. It started LONG before the added size/weight could have been contributing.
I had it with my second son for the last 5 or 6 weeks of pregnancy, and with my twins from about 25 weeks. It was terrible. Turning over in the bed was absolute torture, and it took me a good 5 minutes after standing up before I would be able to walk. There are various braces and belts you could try that would help take some of the pressure off your pelvis. Mine got a lot better after delivering. I still have a little pain if I take off running too quickly, but it gets better as time goes by.

I haven't been officially diagnosed but I'm pretty certain this is what I've been experiencing the last few weeks. There was one night DH was out of town where I was crying in pain.
I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with a doctor that specializes in adjustments for pregnant women. I am hoping it helps, even just a little.
Thanks. I've had some really bad days and other times I think it's just the regular stretching and stuff. Blah.
It really sucks! And I felt like an idiot because I was barely showing, yet I could barely stand up straight. On the other hand, I was 40 weeks pregnant with DS1, wearing 3" heels, and not a pain in the world. Since my H knew what I was like with DS1, he knew to take my complaints seriously with DS2!

My pain was associated with very specific movements, typical of SPD - mostly anything related to moving one leg separate from the rest of my body (rolling over in bed, getting out of bed, getting in and out of the car, as well as laying on my side). Standing and regular walking did not cause much pelvic pain.
ETA - my OB brushed it off as regular pregnancy pains too. It wasn't until I saw a chiropractor months later, in desperation, and she suggested it. I brought it up to the OB then, and she was like - "oh, yeah...."
Yes. With dd and with my current pregnancy. I started seeing my chiro at only twelve weeks bc I could already tell it was coming back. It's bad. I generally get the most relief with regular chiro adjustments. I also mentioned it to my Acupuncturist and she said she can help too. I see her tomorrow. I'm only 15 weeks now, so the idea of another 25 weeks of this makes me want to cry.
