I can't read if the "I don't know who David Bowie" confessions above are proud or embarrassed and that's making me really uncomfortable. He was such a pioneer not just music-wise, but as a person, pushing gender boundaries and a lot of cultural conventions that it makes me think either you shit all over what he represents if you're proud to say you don't GAF about him or simply, that you've lived a very comfortable existence in which your identity/what you represent as a person has never been questioned or challenged by anyone else. So, yeah, I'm uncomfortable.

I liked MaM but then, my dad was a DA for 35 years. I grew up watching JAG and The Practice, and I read Helter Skelter when I was an early teen. Maybe a flameful for my parents? Lol.
I have no idea who David Bowie is/was beyond the fact that he was a musician of some kind.
I almost said that all I know is he sang White Wedding.
But then I googled and apparently that was Billy Idol.
So now I'm back to knowing nothing. lol
Im derailing the flamefuls but one Valentines Day at work I spent the day watching weddings live on the vegas chapel wedding cams. My mom also participated from her office far far away and offered commentary. It was snowy and no one was working so dont judge.
Anyway there is a billy idol white wedding package that we really want to have someone we know do. This is a link to one of the many www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/white_wedding.htm I tried to convince my grandparents to do this for their 50th anniversery but they could not be convinced.
Absolutely. I think Adnan makes the most sense. I believe he tried to talk to her, got mad and killed her, and regretted and hid it. I don't think he should be in prison, though, because that trial was fucked.
Who else would have? Jay? He barely knew her! Don? He had an alibi!
Have you listened to Undisclosed or Truth and Justice? Don's alibi doesn't hold. He has two time cards for the day in question, meaning at least one was falsified.. His mom's partner was the manager at his store and the only who could have changed a time card.
I don't know who did it, but I don't think it was Adnan. He has one, maybe two, alibi witnesses for that afternoon - Asia and the track coach. Track coach is a maybe because he doesn't remember Adnan being at practice the day of the murder, but based on his recollection of a long walk with Adnan during Ramadan on a day when the temp was above 40*. There was only one day in January that fits that description and it was the day Hae was killed.
@mrswindycity, I suppose this thread means it might just be down to you, me and a small handful of other MMMers competing for Ira Glass's affections...
Also Labyrinth is not creepy. It's a f*cking classic man. It one of my favorite all time movies. The imagination and the artistry is unreal. It's not just a silly movie without meaning.
like the downright OUTRAGE that the steelers would sign Vick, with people threatening to jump ship and sell their season tickets/etc., and yet...your starting QB? Ben? hello?
pisses me off so much.
YES. The vitriol for Michael Vick was outsized. What he did was gross, but he went to jail, got out, and people are still calling for his head. For dogfighting.
I hate it when people care more about animals than people. The outrage over the killing of Cecil the Lion and Vick's dogfighting was intense. And justifiably. BUT it would be nice if when people are being killed or abused, that they held people to the same level of outrage.

Some people just aren't into popular culture. I think the above was a bit of an overreaction!!
Add me to the list of people who really didn't know anything about David Bowie. he's just older than my generation. I'm well aware of the more current celebs that are helping the LGBT community, because thats whats on TMZ now. Now that i DO know, I will probably check out his music.
Zoolander? Space Oddity ("Ground Control to Major Tom"?)
These are major cultural touchstones here!
Also, he's a hero to many LGBT folks because he was a pioneer in high-profile gender-bending through his persona and appearance over the years.
I have heard Ground Control to Major Tom but did not know that was David Bowie! I did know he was a musician, but my primary familiarity with him was via Zoolander (I am a terrible child of the 80s and never saw Labyrinth).

I will probably not watch the SOTU tonight. I'll have good intentions to watch it on youtube since we don't have cable, but by the time I get both girls bathed and the big one down, I'll probably want to relax and watch something funny instead.
I made J fish sticks for lunch. He only ate a couple
I've been watching an old season of The Biggest Loser. MH thinks I'm weird, but I find it motivating, even though I know it's not realistic. I like the show.
I think it's dumb that all the area schools cancelled this morning. There was hardly any snow. It's snowing now, but doesn't seem to be accumulating a lot. Yes, it's cold and the bus stops would be cold, but that never made them cancel when I was growing up. I'm also annoyed because that means daycare had a two hour delay so it messed up my plans for today(homework). And they will probably all close tomorrow too.
I don't really care about sports either way, I enjoy a Super Bowl party because the food is delicious, but I don't like teams or care about the games. But it weirds me out when people are all, "We had a great defense, you guys!" We? Do you play on the team? Are you a member of the Patriots/Redskins/whatever? You are not.
My DH says they same thing. "They do no pay you to be a fan". And they get paid either way. It is fine to be a fan, but it is not something to dictate everything you do.
I just heated my fish lunch in the break room microwave and I don't caaaaaare!
I have been doing this too. DGAF! People eat fish and should be able to have leftovers if they want.
I reheated tilapia in the microwave at work the other day. I have a coworker who is notorious for FREAKING OUT when people make fish and taking air spray and spraying it all over around her desk and door. She's so overly dramatic. So imagine my happiness when she walked in and said, "Oh my god. WHO IS MAKING FISH?" and I smugly said, "Oh, that's me". The look on her face was awesome. She didn't know what to say
