I agree. It's an interesting story, but basically after the first few episodes it's just a video of a trial.
I'm pretty sure Making a Murderer wouldn't have been the cultural phenomenon it is if Steven Avery was black and rural Wisconsin was urban Detroit/NYC/Chicago/LA.

I still wipe my almost 6-and-a-half-year-old's butt after a bowel movement. We've tried to teach him how to wipe, but he does a terrible job and leaves stains all over his underwear. Not to mention the thought of him walking around with an unclean butt makes me cringe. I don't know how weird this is on the scale of age appropriateness.
MaM is recipe for a couch nap for me. I was so excited about and am still interested, but as soon is comes on, I'm out. We've watched 7 or so episodes and I think I've seen one in its entirety.
I finally quit Making of a Murderer. I don't find it compelling. I watched 6 episodes, and I think it's probably a similar situation to Adnan's, where he committed the crime, but instead of negligence and incompetence on Adnan's court case, I think it's actual police malfeasance in Steven Avery's case. It's an interesting case and all, but the story is not being told well. At all. They needed to have gotten more help from Sarah Koenig.
I managed to finish it, but fell asleep during every single episode. I'm glad to hear someone else didn't find it super compelling - I thought I was broken. I mean, the one or two bombs they dropped each episode were interesting, but the story telling wasn't amazing. I think they could have wrapped the whole series up in about half the time.

SAME. What is it? The bleak Wisconsin landscape? The music? Are we missing out on some kind of white noise opportunity with the dulcet tones of a rural Wisconsin accent?
I watched 20 mins of making a murderer and didn't like it. I agree the story telling reminds me too much of those crime shows. I may watch eventually but it's way down my list of priorities.

DH's 40th birthday is tomorrow. We are both off. My planning is basically to ask "So what do you want to do?" I think we're just going to the movies. I'm going to make pancakes from a mix for breakfast and boxed cake with a slightly fancier frosting for dessert.
If this was my 40th, I'd probably be pretty pissed. And if the reason my spouse punted on planning was because my birthday is right after Christmas, I'd be bitter. Luckily, DH is a better person than me. Plus, I got him a good gift.
The flamefuls are both that I did no planning and that I'm a total child about my own birthday
I slap my kids hands when they throw food while eating. I don't do it every time, and I never do it to cause pain. So more like tap, rather then slap I guess. But I still feel bad about it, especially reading the spanking thread because I never planned to spank my kids. But sometimes you get so frustrated when they don't listen. I feel like these next few years are really going to test me.
More of a confession, but it makes me irrationally annoyed when people get the title of the show wrong. It's Making a Murderer, not Making of a Murderer.

I don't necessarily think that is true. Annan is Muslim and the victim was Asian. And it happened in Baltimore. I think you just have to find someone willing to tell the story. Now that is hard. And black people are already aware that there are people who are in prison who shouldn't be due to a corrupt system. So that ain't new information for us.
*********************** I have been waiting for a flameful or UO. And I actually remember what I wanted to say.
I think Chris Brown is a horrible person. He can never get a penny from me. I change the station when his music comes on. BUT I think peoples obsession with him and his misbehavior is because he is black. Same with R. Kelly. There are tons of white celebrities who beat their wives, girlfriends, etc. or do extremely horrible things :coughs Big Ben: but no one is going off about how they shouldn't be allowed to play sports/perform/sing/etc. anymore. And the media is to blame for this too. Do you think all the white people all of sudden stopped being batterers when they were before? But it is a better story if it is a black person.
I feel the same about Michael Vick. This dude served jail time (rightfully so). Has been nothing but a model citizen since. But people won't let this guy be. He only deserves to be able to have a minimum wage job. But other people deserve second chances...well, I guess other non-black people deserve them.
Double standard.
Kind of in line with the Michael Vick thing. I think it is absolutely disgusting, horrible what he did. It makes me sick when I think of it. But why there are other high profile people in sports, music, actors, etc. that beat their wives, kill people because they were driving drunk, etc., and there is little said about it. Why was Michael Vick villanized so much more than others who did things that were just as bad. I think they are all bad, and they should all be viewed that way.
@mrswindycity I think it is also the animals > people thing. But I have been flamed for that before here. But I still think the continuous animosity towards Vick is race related. Like I think if he were white, he would be redeemed after his jail time. Everyone would be screaming about what a model citizen he is being and give him a second chance.
Vick was pretty much fucked no matter what he did. Imagine if he wasn't playing football, people would be complaining that he needed to pick himself up by his bootstraps and go get a job.
I don't understand why people bring their toddlers into the worship service when there is a free, well-staffed nursery available. I know that children are welcome in church, and I would never say anything to parents, but it is just so dang distracting when your toddler is constantly crawling around, eating, etc.
I know that this makes me sound like a terrible person.

Maybe it's the convos between Brendan and his mom. "Yeah?" "Yeah." "Yeah." Make it stoppppp.
