Who wants to help me gameplan how to quit a job I haven't started yet?
I am dreading that part, and dreading my current company finding out that instead of becoming a client, I'll be becoming a competitor. Not sure exactly how I will handle either.
But once I get through that part, I am SO excited. This is a dream job with dream money, and though it's something I never pictured myself doing, I think I will be really good at it. And it basically fell in my lap when a recruiter called.
Congrats. I was almost in the position of quitting a job before I started. At the last minute I didn't get the job I really wanted so I didn't have to quit the original. Congrats to you on getting both jobs, but especially your dream job. After you start, tell us all about it.
I don't have to tell my current company--but they will find out one way or another. And I think they may be talking to one more of my coworkers (I hope so!!)
I'd just talk to the contact person at new job asap and let them know that it's not going to work. Apologize profusely and move on. It will be uncomfortable, but it will be ok for all
And can you toss some of that job dust this way? TYVM

That is fantastic!
Tell Old New Job that sorry, something has come up and you'll be unable to take the position. Tell them ASAP. There's nothing you can do to make it better in terms of burning a bridge, so just rip the Bandaid off.
Is your industry small enough that you should give your boss a heads up about working for a competitor, or does it deal with that in your employee handbook? You may be required to tell them and immediately leave the company.
No notification requirements. No non compete. I have all my documents, and I don't owe them anything. Except that I have genuine friendships that will be impacted.

Good for you! I remember I HATED telling my last job I was leaving, but ITA with the 'rip the band-aid off' mentality. It really won't be that bad. As for your current CW's, I agree with telling some of the important people (i.e. the genuine friends you mentioned) the change.
If you don't have a non compete, then I don't think you need to go through all the official channels on this...just tell the people that you want to know.
So amazing! I am very excited for you, and though the short-term by suck/be awkward, how wonderful to have a job you are thrilled about (and with awesome money too!)
Major congrats!! Thats fantastic. I was in that situation once where I had to quit a job I hadn't started - but it all worked out in the end. the company understood I was offered a much better opportunity.
