Every once in a while I look at (much better paying) jobs in DC and think the commute from Baltimore can't be that bad. Then stuff like this happens. Nope!
Holy shit. Are they concerned the whole system is going to blow up overnight? What's with the urgency? Wouldn't it at least make sense to do this on a Sunday or something?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I texted my sister who lives on the outskirts of the city and works on capital hill to see what's going on. She said basically it is pandemonium in their office trying to figure out wtf to do. Luckily she's nonessential so she's crossing her fingers they decide her level of underling doesn't need to come in tomorrow.
But I want to know who ok'd this with so little notice? People have lives! Lol

I believe they banned weekend work for the next 4 weeks or so because cherry blossoms.
Lots of things caught on fire yesterday and there is new management who seem to actually give a shit.
andwhat, are you here? I drive in and out every day, so it technically doesn't affect me. I just can't believe it's so bad that they literally need to impact this many federal and private workers in the middle of the week.

I ride VRE in but take metro part of the way because I'm so far along in my pregnancy. I'll be walking tomorrow since I can't telework, which I'm not looking forward to, but I figure it could be worse since there are so many people (including school kids!) who rely solely on metro to get places.
I have a friend who works at WMATA and even he only found out at 4 and they had nothing on their website until 4:30. This is crazy and I bet made everyone who was taking Metro home tonight feel really great.
I drive to work but will be telecommuting tomorrow. I can't even imagine what kind of shitshow traffic will be.

I'm hoping that with the Feds liberal leave many who drive will use the opportunity to stay home. Key word here is hope. 20 years driving in and out of this city, and I'm hopeful where traffic is concerned.

They are offering telework and they will probably do liberal leave. So I think many people will stay home.
Metro just got new upper management, so they are taking things seriously instead of brushing them aside like previous ones. This probably should have been done after the fire 2 years ago. But instead they were lining their pockets.
I drive too, but I work off hours and I live close so this isn't going to affect me.
