I am collecting money to get a thank you gift for our Daisy Troop leaders and I have received a pretty nice amount. I originally though spa or restaurant, but then was given the suggestion of Nordstrom, that way that can use it solely on themselves (spa or shopping), but I am second guessing myself.
I would be pissed if I got a Nordstrom gc, only because there no Nordstrom anywhere near here. I go for a Visa gc when I'm not sure. Yeah, the three extra bucks suck, but at least I know I'm giving something useful.
There is a Nordstrom here, so that isn't an issue.

I'd suck up the activation costs and get a Visa GC.
Why not just give cash? I don't understand Visa GCs.
How is it different than any other GC if you think of it this way? Why give a Nordstrom gift card, just give the cash.
I like Visa GC cause I can use them anywhere I want. My grandma sends me one for my birthday and Christmas and it is awesome.
I agree with no to the restaurant GC unless you know it is somewhere the go, I have a wallet full of unused gift cards for places we never go that we have gotten as gifts.

I would prefer not Nordstrom since it boxes you into fancy stuff for lack of a better word. Id much prefer a Visa or Amex GC I could use at target. A local spa would be nice though.

Because a Visa GC is essentially just cash with a fee attached. I'd rather not pay a fee.

This. Nordstorm is nice but the GC would have to be substantial for me to really get what I wanted.

If you have a Nordstrom, that could be a good gift. I would personally hate it because I really hate going to stores and shopping for myself. I would much rather have Target or Amazon gift cards, or even Panera, Starbucks, Chipotle, or someplace that delivers yummy food.

IDK, I agree that unless it substantial ($100), Nordstrom is limiting. But you know the people you are gifted so go with that.

I am up to $350 collected from about half the troop and I will just give an amount to get it to a roundish number. I am also going to buy a couple "daisy" bouquets. There are two leaders.
What about a cute clutch or wallet with a stash of gift cards? Amazon, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Movie Tix etc.
My friend makes these adorable zipper pouch key chains and I bought a bunch for my kids teachers and plan to throw Gcs inside. Super practical and not "just" a gift card.
I have a million gift cards for places I don't go. It sucks. I'd prefer Visa GC/straight up cash...as ridiculous/tacky as that sounds. Hell, I'm even sitting on a $200 Amazon GC I don't know what to do with.
