I have a co-worker who theorizes that Trump doesn't really want the presidency and is doing it for all the press he gets--for free! He doesn't even have to pay for it.
I wouldn't put it past him.
What if he keeps going until Kasich drops out and then he turns around and says, "Joke's on YOU, America! I'm OUT. Racist idiots! Now you have essentially no choice but to have a Dem in office!" Is that even a possibility?
I just can't see him as an actual real person. He screams fictional character to me.
Well technically if that happened the GOP could just choose a new candidate at their convention but yeah wishful thinking it would be nice
Well, neither of them being the Rep Presidential nominee was going to make me feel good. Cruz actually scared me, while Trump just makes me sad.
While I'm 99% sure Hillary could beat Drumpf in the primary, the only thing that could keep me from worrying is if the entire GOP imploded, and was actually unable to nominate a candidate. Then the people voting R would be left with writing in a candidate, and they'd probably end up with the dude from Duck Dynasty. /sarcasm
The Republican Party, a national coalition of conservative voters, died Tuesday night at the age of 162. The cause of death was the presumptive selection of Donald J. Trump, a reality TV star and hotelier known for his histrionic exhortations to “Make America Great Again,” to represent the party as its presidential nominee.
The Republican Party was born on July 6, 1854 in a schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin. Its parents were former Whig Party members, who were determined to fight the spread of slavery under the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The party, also known as the “Grand Old Party,” grew impressively in its youth, electing Abraham Lincoln to the presidency in 1860 and dominating national politics well into the 20th century.
The Party’s health took a turn for the worse during the 1920s, when the Great Depression drove voters to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal” coalition. But it recovered in the 1960s, when Southern Democrats defected over civil rights and joined its ranks. A series of health scares plagued the GOP shortly thereafter, including the ascendance of Barry Goldwater, and the resignation of Richard Nixon over the Watergate scandal. But it survived those challenges, as it would survive many others over the years—including Sarah Palin, Mitch McConnell’s “Harlem Shake” video, and the guy from Duck Dynasty.
The 1980s brought the GOP’s heyday, with the election of actor Ronald Reagan, which knitted religious conservatives and tax-averse capitalists together in a fragile alliance. But the party began a terminal decline with the 2009 formation of the Tea Party, a splinter group that swept federal and state legislatures and really boosted sales of “Don’t Tread On Me” beer koozies.
In its final days, despite having majorities in both houses of Congress, the GOP fell gravely ill. In the 2016 presidential primaries, the Party mustered only a handful of serious contenders: Jeb Bush, the affectless scion of a Republican dynasty; Ted Cruz, a widely-despised first-term senator best known for shutting down the entire U.S. government; Ben Carson, a narcoleptic Drudge headline; and John Kasich, a haircut.
Donald J. Trump, the illness that led to the Party’s demise, seized on these weaknesses in the party’s immune system. Trump was originally misdiagnosed in 2015 as a rash that would clear up by the end of July. But he metastasized quickly, and rose through the polls while calling Mexicans rapists and antagonizing a religion of a billion people. In the end, even the best attempts of Republican establishment leaders to revive their party proved unsuccessful, and on the night of May 3, 2016, on a stage at the Trump Tower in New York City, the Republican Party finally succumbed. The death was announced in a tweet from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, which called for Republicans to “unite and focus on defeating @hillaryclinton.”
Ooh! The first of my vocal R friends has chimed in on FB.
I will admit that I've thought frequently that Trump had no actual desire to be President. He was just looking for something new to do...and chose an outrageous platform to screw everything up. I often wonder if he goes to bed at night laughing at all of the idiots in America right now.
If people were even half way intelligent, they would see that Trump has a nasty habit with his building projects of promising jobs, that never happen, and even not finishing the project. He leaves a mess in his wake.
No one will ever convince me Cruz was a better alternative than Trump. I still think Trump didn't mean half of what he said. His wives have almost all been foreign-born. He has almost certainly paid for abortiosn. He used to believe in the right to choose. And he has already pivoted FAR left of where he started on things like unions. He's a businessman, and he ran like it was a business negotiation. Cruz was right to be apocalyptic that Trump is a wolf in sheeps clothing, and I would one billion times prefer a businessman to any true believer religious zealot despised by his college roommate and Boehner.
All that said, yes, the way Trump treated the press horrified me, his willingness to pander to the racists was appalling, and I think he has irreparably damaged himself abroad, which is a fairly big deal for a POTUS. He would made an atrocious president. But the sad moment was when Rubio dropped off. Not when Cruz did.
Also, on the upside, the GOP that considers itself responsible and adult may ultimately be forced to back Hillary, and that is not a bad thing.
But he's going to build a wall....that will make us safer for sure *snicker*
I'm Mexican-American so I don't know which side of the wall I'll be on! LMAO
If you are a dual citizen, you could always go south if need be. I know it's cliche to say, but even my H & I are considering moving back to EU if Trump wins. I realize there is no perfect utopia but I am really frightened of what would happen here if Trump won the general election.
H is actually convinced that if Trump were to win though, that he would probably be impeached within a few months because he has absolutely no idea what he is even doing....strange and scary times, ladies.
Why do I have the feeling Trump is going to pick Cruz as his VP?
I actually was wondering if he was going to choose Chris Christie to be his VP, considering he's been seen out and about with Trump after he dropped out....

Someone shared a thing on FB about people boycotting 50 cents vodka because he mocked a man with autism, but Trump mocked a man with a disability and won the GOP nomination then used the #whiteprivilege. My friend replied "To be fair, people might like to boycott Trump's vodka too, but the entire market already boycotted it and it went under already."
Are there any recent articles out there about Bernie's chances at this point? I need to go look, but if anyone has one to link, I'd be much appreciative.

They are incredibly slim but not mathematically impossible

538 says he would have to win every remaining state by a minimum of 65% to get the delegates he needs and he is unlikely to meet that average based on current polling. HRC is doing really well in California currently which will put the nail in the coffin if she gets those delegates.

So here's what I'm wondering, if HRC gets the nod will Bernie run as an independent? Or will he step aside so that HRC has as many votes as possible/Drumpf doesn't win?

I believe it is too late for Bernie to get on the ballot as an I
Do you actually plan to go to Canada? Like, really truly? If not, why is this such a thing to say? I have seen tons of people saying this on FB and I don't get it.
We would legitimately consider moving to Costa Rica. We have family there.
It's not so much Trump as President as it is a majority that would elect him as President that would prompt the move. Terrifying.
This is EXACTLY it. While Trump embodies racism, sexism, bigotry, and xenophobia in everything he says, the bigger problem is the fact that people are voting him into the nomination, and try to vote him into the White House. It's beyond fucking terrifying. As bad as things are for POC, women, or immigrants are now, I can't even begin to fathom how much worse they will get if he gets into the WH. We'll end up going backwards about five decades. If he wins, that says A LOT about what kinds of awful, stupid fucks live in America.
I have to say that I can't even look at Ted Cruz's face or hear his sleazy voice without wanting to vomit. I don't know what it is, but honestly he just makes me sick to my stomach. So I'll be so thankful not to see his face on the news so often.

I'm terrified. Living in OK, I am surrounded by Trump supporters. They are coming out in full force. What I am noticing is that it's not even that they like Trump that much, it's that they HATE Hillary. Educated, well-rounded people that I always thought a lot of are voting for Trump. I don't even know how to respond anymore. It's like we are living in an alternate universe.
Okay, so this is all terrifying and horrible. But here's a quick break for a couple of internet comments I saw that are at least equally funny as terrifying:
And a comment on the bottom of the buzzfeed article where I found it:
If the Earth still exists, you know the 2020 presidential race is going to be between Trump and Kanye right? This joke isn't over yet.

Bernie stated early on that he wouldn't run as an independent. He better stick to that.
