Such a powerful piece. unfortunately the people who have drunk the kool aid won't care. They'll google her all right, but it won't be to see she's telling the truth about who she is. I hope she's prepared for a barrage of comments and emails about how she's voting with her vagina and a $hill. One formerly hardcore berner on my FB has moved away from Saint Bernie in recent days (partially because he has a daughter with disabilites and, like this woman, he's troubled by the lack of clarity around this platform and outreach to that community) so his comments feed has been blowing up with pissed off bros. Apparently, the DNC has been making the calls themselves to set up Sanders people. These assholes watch way too much House of Cards. (Although, when the first season came out I asked one of the faculty who is a Congressional politics expert if any of it could be true. He said most of it, no, but the brick thing? For sure.)
His speeches never change for a reason. It isn’t because, as his supporters allege, he’s authentic and always on the right side of things. It’s because he doesn’t care to adapt, to research issues other than income inequality and the environment, follow up on his lofty ideas with solid policy initiatives or to make any compromises to achieve his goals. Rather, he just plays the blame game, pointing out everything that’s wrong with this country and proposing no specific plans to achieve his goals. He prides himself on being so honest and trustworthy while lying to the electorate about his concern for our well being and Hillary’s lack thereof. In reality, I see now that he doesn’t care about anyone’s well being but his own ability to rise to power.
I do think the Berners will google her, and yes, they will be nasty. But you know what? Bernie not speaking out about his supporters harassing a disabled woman, will make him look EVEN WORSE to those who HAVE NOT drank the kool-aid. The bros are a small fragment. Smaller than the Bernie or Bust people.
Nothing but mad respect for this woman. And I'll admit it, it makes me feel more excited about Hillary.

This is so very true.
It really is. And this paragraph just really hits home for me how similar Bernie and trump really are. Unwavering in their assholeness, regardless of the cost. All bluster and ego.
Focusing on prevention means asking: Why are people turning to opioids, turning to heroin, in the first place? What should we be doing differently to keep that from happening? One big thing we can do, we must do, is to address income inequality in this country. We have to make sure hardworking people can find a job, that the job they find pays a livable wage, and a fair wage. Today, unemployment and underemployment remains far too high, particularly among our country's young people.
I saw a meme (so I can't swear to it's accuracy) where he said the same basic thing about mental illness. People wouldn’t be so depressed if we fix income inequality.
Sure Bernie, that's how clinical depression works.

I hate how he takes EVERYTHING back to income inequality. Things aren't that simple! And Bernie, for the record, my major depressive disorder first appeared while I was gainfully employed in a full-time job.
I think Bernie is someone who is a true believer that things really are THAT simple. Things aren't complicated or nuanced and that's why he's so consistent.
I don't think it's a good quality to have, especially if you are running for president of a large, diverse nation.

TRUTH BOMB.

Quoting this again because exactly.
Bernie has some great things to say. But he's not a listener.
I would love to see the email she received where they told her to do yoga for pain relief.
As a chronic pain sufferer myself , I literally burned with rage at that statement. And my chronic pain is, I would imagine, no where NEAR as bad as what the author of this piece goes through. Yoga and meditation... yeah because EVERYONE with chronic pain is FULLY capable of doing YOGA... what the **** ever, old dude. He can **** right off with that ****. (At work so I can only use foul language internally. LOL)

Also, I have zero medical understanding of pain or the neurological system but I would be APPALLED at myself if I ever dismissed someone's very real suffering with such a statement.
This is Tom Cruise-selling-DoTerra levels of shitpiggery.

This made me snicker. I feel a little bad about that.

20-something white men who didn't start making 6 figures out of college, have significant student loan debt, and think that means they're living in poverty.

80% of heroin addicts start off using prescription opiates. For pain. Not for fun because they are unemployed.

And his statement also assumes that all addicts are poor people.
