As many of you know, my mom has Stage IV colon cancer--it's metastasized into her liver, which is so not good. I called her this afternoon and she sounded absolutely horrible. She said she was in a lot of pain. This is the worst I've heard her sound since she was diagnosed in July 2014. The cancer in her liver continues to grow so the doctor has changed her chemo to every two weeks (rather than 3) and has strengthened the chemo medication.
She's fallen a few times recently, so my aunt and I were talking about hiring a part-time caregiver for her just last Sunday. Well sure enough, Mom fell very badly on Thursday, so my stepdad asked for my little sister and one of Mom's friend's help on Friday. (I don't know why it took so god-blessed long, but my stepdad is kind of helpless with these kinds of things apparently. grrr) Anyway they took her to the ER because she had a black eye and a big bruise on her chin. The doctors wanted to check her out and gave her a brain scan to make sure everything was okay, then released her to go home.
It's the chemo treatment and the pain killers that go with it that is causing her lose weight and she's so very frail. It breaks my heart. The treatment seems to be more awful than the disease itself. </3

Im so sorry, flex. I hope her doctors can get her comfortable and stablize her weight. Watching my mom's decline from spitfire to frail little old lady was worldview changing for me. Massive hugs to you, and gentle hugs to her.

yeah, as you know, I know exactly what you are going through.
Really encourage her to eat/drink even if she doesn't feel like it. See if you can get her to like things like boost enough that she can drink it. All of this really matters right now

My grandpa liked smoothies. Smoothie bars could add protein or weight gain powders. Also, medical marijuana.
She told me a week or so ago that she qualifies for medical marijuana. I'm not sure how far she is in that process. I'll ask my sister. Thank you for the reminder. : )
