We have this party in San Antonio, TX on Saturday. It's a late afternoon into nighttime barbecue at a ranch, and will be smart casual I suppose. Nigel is going to wear an orange and blue hawaiian shirt with navy chinos.
I am still stuck in sneakers, which look like shite with anything remotely cute or dressy. I am not loving any options at home. I can get to a Macy's, an Ann Taylor, a Banana or Club Monaco this week (not enough time to order online), however it is going to be 100 degrees there and I'm guessing most of the summer stuff is gone, even perhaps from the clearance racks at this point.
To this day I have shied from the maxi skirt/dress because I am short, 5'4" and short waisted, BUT, I realized it will kind of cover up my sneakers...
Can you help with actual suggestions for clothes or even with silhouettes? This is going to be a well-dressed crowd and I don't want to look like a total dork.
Macys usually has cute maxi dresses. I read the ML thread, and disagree that maxi dresses are uncomfortable. I wore a cotton maxi dress on the 4th of July in Atlanta and it was super comfortable. Cotton maxi dresses are just about the most comfortable thing I own. For your thights, get some Monistat chafing gel if it is uncomfortable. It doubles as an excellent makeup primer, too
If so, they aren't so bad. I agree with cab, wide legged linen pants would be good, maybe even in brown to further camouflage the shoes?
No, they're older and more traditionally styled running shoes - the nylon is dark brown, the leather is a shimmery pewter and the swish is a greyish blue.
If you do pants I would definitely go with a dark color if you wear your current nikes. I think white linen pants could work but definitely get white shoes.

Thanks y'all. I think I'm going to go for the tan linen trousers and chambray button down, and tomorrow I'll see if I can find a chambray shirtdress that's not too long. I found one on LL Bean today but it's only in Duggar-esque regular length.
I'll look for a fun top for the linen pants, maybe a gold sequined tank or something.
