In the white spaces thread she used the "N" word. While she still put it in quotes, I'd assume most people in this country know that that word is not acceptable.
And it was only noticed by someone else from cep, which is where I saw it mentioned.
I'm mad that I didn't catch it but seriously?? No one else sae that disgusting word?
Thanks for posting this. I haven't been back in that thread today so missed what was going on. I don't even know what to say. I can't remember if I read what she wrote or not, but I'm really ashamed that I potentially didn't notice while reading her comment. I should not be able to see that word and skim over it without noticing, and if I did that fuck I'm sorry.

Saw it and said nothing, glossed over it, didn't see it, it doesn't matter. It's reprehensible. We've made this a place where someone feels like it's OK to use this word and they won't get called out on it. One of the threads called April 2012 a white wasteland and that really is what it's become.

I admittedly didn't read all the responses in that thread, so I didn't know about it until a while after the call out. But that is no excuse. There are no excuses.

I'm checking my urge to rationalize what was said and what was seen, or not seen by myself and everyone else. Nothing I would come up with would have any merit. It would just make me feel better about myself, which is the last thing that needs to happen around here.

How ? How is it that so many people can just gloss over that word? I can't think of one racial slur that I'd see typed out that i would be able to skim over/ "not see". Is it a word that just shows up in random places for you?
No one person saw that?
This is really a rhetorical question so I don't need an answer.

Its totally not ok. Im still trying to catch up on different threads.
Someone on here before was called out for a different racist insult on this board a while back. I don't see how this one was ignored. Do we really let things go because of who post things? I dont even know why i am asking because of course it happens.

I know you don't "need" an answer but I will respond anyways and agree with you.
I'm utterly disgusted in myself for not reading replies in the first place and missing it.

This is like watching my 7 year old try to lie to me. It's so transparent. And for grown women to do it, it's insulting on so many levels given what we're talking about.
I saw it, but like I said in the other post, I think I'm just so used to just visually skipping and mentally blocking offensive words, I did the same with this one. I cringed and thought, "I hate that word and wish no one would use it."
People had to have noticed. They either A: thought it was okay because it was in quotes, or B: knew it wasn't okay but didn't want to call her out because it was a popular well known poster, or C: never opened the thread at all (also shitty)
Unless you didn't read the thread, you had to have noticed. That's like saying you don't notice a car crash on the side of the road as you drive by. Really hard to skim past a word like that. If you somehow did manage to skim past it, well, what does that say about our board? But really, I don't think that is the case. I very ignorantly wrote a different word in the past that I got rightfully called out by, so I don't see how this just got looked over.
There's really no way around this, it's horrible however you look at it.
I am guilty of not reading or even opening many threads lately. I didn't open that thread until today. Which, is shitty in itself because I should be making sure to read these threads.
And the reason why this thread is short, is because no one knows what the fuck to say for themselves. There is no excuse for any of this.
