Oh man. I was watching Below Deck (its my guilty pleasure!) and just saw a shortened version of this commercial. It has a woman doing some practice phrases in a bathroom and then the screen says "Go in there, and do your part to close the wage gap." with a voiceover saying "Secret, stress tested for women."
What in fresh hell?! Anyone else seen this? I completely agree with this article that it missed the mark. I found it incredibly offensive.

I think we talked about this add before and folks really liked it. I thought the woman was just building up courage to ask for a raise and the older woman was giving her encouragment not forcing her to do something before she was ready
And maybe it is not women's fault thata wage gap exists but women are hesitant to ask for raises more so than men are and it is our duty to overcome that fear right?
We did talk about it a while ago and most of CEP seemed for it. I find it encourages women, esp young women, to find their voice and get what they want. To not be afraid to speak up to a male boss and to be treated equally .
Eh. I'm not bothered by this. It says "do your part" not "solve the whole damn problem yourself" since we know that's impossible.
But that's the thing - even when women ask for raises, studies show that they are less likely to get them. It's a false narrative that if women would just negotiate more or ask for raises that the wage gap would be eliminated.
