I have found that some of it is regionally. At least in my experience, in my area, if you are on OKC, you are also probably on Tinder, and Bumble, and POF, and Match...I see the same people on every site.
But, if I were to OLD seriously, I think I would consider the paid sites more. I think the free sites can be great, but there is more weeding through to do. I've seen so many men who just broke up with their last GF/FI and they jump right in, especially with Tinder. The last guy who I talked to from Tinder - I aws looking at his (public) instagram, he had proposed to a girl in June! So I called him out on it and he went on and on about how he still loved this girl, but she had mental health issues, yadda yadda yadda -Yeah, that is maybe true, but dude, you were ready to spend your life with another person 6 months ago - take a knee for a hot second!

OKC in 2009- I feel like a lot has changed with sites and apps in that time though. I was in college and just looking for dates- when I did a free trial of either match or eharmony it was mostly people a lot older than me.

Wow so lot's of Match.com's....next time we're having girls night I'll bring this up. What a PP said it might help to change the way of thinking that it's more of a service to pay for.
Same - but he's my husband. It's very clear who is on tinder to hook up and who isn't- if not by their profile, then by their initial approach after you match.

I used Match.com back in 2005. I did a 2 week free trial and my H was the first and only person I communicated with. My brother used OKC and found his wife there in 2012.

Eharmony (4 years ago)
I used Match and OKC as well - most guys were on both, a number were on all 3. I met a variety of good/not good on all, but Eharmony I had the most "more than first date" dates, which I found interesting.
ETA: My husband was also on all 3 and I would have filtered him out through Match and OKC because he doesn't drink (and hello, wine and I are dear dear friends!) EHarmony doesn't filter, instead it uses a survey you fill out and then gives you matches daily, and you can't "search" for anyone. I ultimately think that can be a good thing...at least it worked in my favor!
I've heard good things about Match. I think she might have a little hang up about having to pay, in a way like 'why should I have to pay to meet someone.'
My BFF used to say that, years ago, she'd always kind of snark on people who met online saying stuff like "I don't want to have to PAY for love".
Then she met her H on eharmony. Lol. And he's really a perfect match for her. They've been together since like 2010 so I think it was worth it for her to get over the paying thing.
