The good news I guess is that absolutely no one was counting on McCain to vote no on this. Last time he endorsed G-C he walked it back pretty quickly but I suspect this is it for him. McCain was never on our side, and his precious no vote wasn't about anything other than temper tantruming that they couldn't vote on the bill HE wanted.
Have they revised the formula yet to make it so Arizona hasn't. Lost money? If not then I presume that they made some major bakcroom promises that Price would use his power to funnel as mimuxh money to Arizona as possible.
All the reporters on Twitter seem to be taking Rand Paul at his word that he is a no and thus acting like this is not really an issue unless you flip Collins or Murkowski, which no one seems to think will happen. It'd be nice if they expressed a little more (warranted) skepticism.
CBO says they will release preliminary GC score next week. . But it will only have financial implications needed for reconciliation. They won't be able to provide estimates about effects on premiums or insurance coverage for several weeks.
So basically: there will be no CBO score on how this bill will hurt people when the vote happens. Which is exactly what the GOP wants. So folks like Capito can feign ignorance about how bad it is.

They did make changes to lessen the impact on AZ compared to other expansion states, but it's the block grant formula they fiddled with .... ALL of that funding is zeroed out in 2027 so it's really a very temporary calculation. And of course this was done specifically to buy off Flake/McCain/Ducey. Same deal in Nevada. Idiots.

McCain sounds annoyed that Ducey didn't give him the easy out he was asking for. Dude, if you are for "regular order" then there is nothing to ponder here.

But, but, but either Graham/Cassidy/Heller (can't remember which) said that OBVIOUSLY Congress would reauthorize the funding in 2027! So they don't need to worry!! Because obviously that will be sooooo easy and not anything that might get opposed by the Republicans at all and should be taken as a given and not a precipitous dropoff that could devastate hundreds of thousands of their constituents. [/sarcasm]

I wonder if the lack of a full CBO score excacerbates his unease. Since it doubles down on the lack of regular order - there is no hearings to discuss the effects, no debate (because the debate on GC falls on the general BCRA debate clock which they used up earlier this summer - so GC only has 90 SECONDS of debate required), and now not even a CBO report.
ETA: Senate Finance is now going to hold a totally good faith, not at all sham hearing
Ugh, the more updates that come the worse it is. I seriously feel like I am going to have a nervous breakdown.
I Know 😐
I'm falling deeper in despair because it seems very in line with what we sort of predicted of the GOP establishment since January: Push something not great (didn't fly), give 'em something a little worse (NOPE), pretended the next was slightly improved ("saved" by McCain), & now they're very close to squeaking this through because People Are Tired And Think We've Already "Won" This Fight! NO!!! This is when it matters! Please call! They're trying to wear us down!! I don't have any close (semi-close) friends/ family in states that matter. (But of course call my guys consistently; have offered my story, but it hasn't yet been utilized ((@ least to my knowledge)).)
If you do live in a crucial state, & you want a story of a "great friend" (😋) to use, please feel free to PM me!

If you do live in a crucial state, & you want a story of a "great friend" (😋) to use, please feel free to PM me! PDQ: Small-business-owner amputee (as a result of a 15-year-old stealing a car & T-Boning H & I) who relies on the ACA to survive. I'd be happy to provide further details upon PM.
I'm in WV and always looking for new stories and angles to use with Capito. If you feel comfortable, you can send me some details and I'll use them in a call. ETA: I'm really sorry that happened to you.
But also fuck Doug Ducey. And fuck Ron Johnson. Seriously.
I want to follow up with his legislative director to be like, "Remember all the shit I told you about? Add a c section, post-partum hemorrhage, and PTSD to that!" But honestly I don't have the emotional energy and he's a lost cause. What a piece of shit.

One angle we are suggesting for Capito right now has to do with kids since she purports to be such a champion. She can't support the CHIP reauthorization and get a gold star and a cookie on kids coverage while also voting on C-G, which will result in millions of kids losing Medicaid coverage. Plus, the CHIP bill can't pass if the Senate is ONLY focused on Cassidy-Graham the next 12 days. CHIP funding is going to run out because they're obsessed with ACA repeal - that does nothing to help kids.
Worth calling to thank Kasich and ask him to continue to stand strong against it and to lean on Portman. Also a good time to call Portman again and reinforce that his own governor is leading the charge against.
And that advice stands for all the signatories of that letter.

Thank you! It's busy and his mailbox is full, but I will keep calling.
I just added it up. As of today, providers have billed $999,655.95 for my family's medical care. So we will obviously top $1 million in care this year.
I don't think we ever incurred more than $20,000 in charges before. It was always a few sick visits, some birth control, maybe an x-ray here and an injection there, and one year I had a bunch of tests run. Normal early 30s stuff.
Are Alexander and Corker potentially in play or should I just keep shaking them? I basically tell them they need to support hearings and not this bill but should I be saying anything else?

Alexander should be PISSED that leadership is essentially sabotaging his bipartisan hearings and marketplace stabilization effort. He is the chair of the MOST important committee on health care. WHY is he letting this happen to him? He should be ashamed of himself to let them walk all over him and the process like that.
So I'd say that. Added PISSED OFF caps for emphasis, mine only.

And then BOOM! everything went to shit.
I hate everyone who supports this bill.
Ugh, I'm so sorry. I know this is so personal for you.
This also speaks to the reason I feel SO strongly about there being a "floor" on health coverage options in the marketplace. Many of the ACA repeal proposals want to institute far fewer rules about what insurers will cover, or increase deductibles substantially, or allow for more "patient choice" to choose a partial coverage rather than full coverage plan - all related to lowering costs in the absence of the individual mandate. Except that for many people they don't KNOW what coverage they will need. No one has a crystal ball. Some people may know that they have a chronic condition or something they need coverage for, but for many people these expenses come from out of the blue. BOOM. And if they don't have comprehensive coverage they are at risk of substantial medical debt and even bankruptcy. Also most people aren't adept enough to read a policy and understand the coverage - they just see the cost as the premium and want it to be lower without thinking about what they are trading off (or, in many cases, folks can't afford any better options so they cross their fingers and hope for the best.)

Preach! I mean, who on this board has even HEARD of a colloid cyst before my H got one? How on earth could I have predicted a postpartum hemorrhage? I'm seeing an orthopedist to treat the carpal tunnel that came on during pregnancy and hasn't improved since delivery - I had NO IDEA that was a potential complication!

Yes! This is the whole premise behind health insurance because it is true that in most years you "get nothing from it" and "can't really use it" but then you have that one year where you absolutely depend on that coverage. Nobody is immune and nobody can predict it, so unless there is a safety net comprehensive insurance is absolutely necessary. It's not a thing where the goal is to break even on what you pay in premium versus claims every year. You are insuring against unknown risk.

Thats basically what I said in my message yesterday. I'll keep it up. Ugh.
