sorry, for us forever confused peeps (just me? lol), when do they plan to push the vote through? without CBO?
It looks to come to the floor likely sometime next week. They will have a half-assed partial CBO score that outlines costs, but nothing on coverage losses bc it won't be ready in time. Process be damned, apparently. It will be MUCH faster than last time because they're still operating under the AHCA and will sub this in as an amendment (like they did last time) but they already ran out the debate clock.
I'm in WV and always looking for new stories and angles to use with Capito. If you feel comfortable, you can send me some details and I'll use them in a call. ETA: I'm really sorry that happened to you.
One angle we are suggesting for Capito right now has to do with kids since she purports to be such a champion. She can't support the CHIP reauthorization and get a gold star and a cookie on kids coverage while also voting on C-G, which will result in millions of kids losing Medicaid coverage. Plus, the CHIP bill can't pass if the Senate is ONLY focused on Cassidy-Graham the next 12 days. CHIP funding is going to run out because they're obsessed with ACA repeal - that does nothing to help kids.
FYI, they did NOT like this line of questioning at the local office. They basically told me to call the D.C. office to discuss CHIP and Graham-Cassidy as it relates to children and hung up. I guess I'll take that as a win?

LOL WTF. So random. Are calls still getting through to DC? To be honest, Capito is one of maybe 2 actually viable targets at this point so if you have other friends and family in WV who can make calls it's worth it.

Just left a voicemail for Toomey...he's totally goi g to vote for this even if he hasn't voiced it publicly yet. I hate him so much, he never listens to PA constituents.

I've called D.C. 3 times in the last hour and got voicemail every time (I got through fine yesterday). I know West Virginians are discouraged because they assume Capito will follow the party line (and I'm not sure they're wrong), but I've been trying to encourage them to keep calling because she may be our best shot. Your info here has been really helpful in trying to rally people.
I was able to leave messages for Tillis and Burr. Governor Cooper put out a statement opposing it but I assume they will both vote yes.
Not sure how viable this is, but we heard this morning that Tillis has "reservations." I can't emphasize enough how important it is for every single senator to receive these calls. Thank you for calling.

Apparently Jimmy Kimmell is going to eviscerate Cassidy at 11:30. Hopefully that will kick publicity into high gear and we'll get a morning wind on national news coverage. Everything is eerily silent... not good.

The clip is up on twitter and you tube. Jimmy does a great job IMO.

I need to call Heller's office, but I sent Sandoval a resist fax thanking him for speaking out against it. I'm having an anxious week though, so the calling may be harder than just sending Heller a fax. I know he's a co sponsor, but I mostly want to make sure he knows there are people in Nevada that will not vote for him to keep that seat he so desperately wants to keep.

I spoke with Tim in Cory Fucking Gardner's Denver office this morning. CFG "needs more info" before he commits. Yeah, that's what he said right up until his "YES!!" vote on every single version. I did take the opportunity to ask about DACA. CFG is "hopeful a solution can be found".
seeyalater52 , is there any particular message that might work better for Rubio?
I will call, but I have a feeling that he and Rick Scott are beyond hope
Not really. I'd probably work the "rushing this through" angle for him anyways. I think he was a little skeptical on process (obviously not much) last time around.
Really, though, even if your Senator won't oppose the bill and even especially if they are a cosponsor ringing their phones off the hook changes the feel of the debate in a BIG way. I can't overstate this - when you're in the building you can hear the phones ringing constantly and it adds a much needed sense of drama to the whole thing. They should not be allowed to pass this without a peep from the public because everyone is sick of calling or not paying attention or feel it's a lost cause. And really you never know who is going to flip or why until it's happening (like McCain.)
The Kimmell segment is breathing some life into this I think. He even had a call to action! So good! And Cassidy's response is LOL. Pathetic.

Maybe if he wants more info he should fucking ask them to delay the vote!?!? We aren't GETTING more info! The bill text was released last week, there is no time for amendments on the floor as far as I can tell because they ran out the debate time, so the bill can't be changed, and the vote could be a week from today. The only thing that will happen between now and then will be a fake CBO estimate on how much costs will rise for consumers (and the numbers will be bad.) What the hell else does he want or expect to happen???
ETA: obviously all rhetorical. I know CFG and Tim are lying liars who lie.
I continue to be blown away by how little respect Alexander has for himself. What a pathetic little man he is for letting leadership bully him this way when he is a senior member of the party with an important chair-ship. The bipartisan process was going SO WELL.

I should have known after DeVos but I somehow had more respect for him than that. The odd thing is he probably isn't running for reelection in 2020 so what's the benefit of doing this? I don't get going out on such a pathetic note.

"A few months ago, after my son had open heart surgery ... a senator named Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, was on my show and he wasn't very honest."
"He got a lot of credit and attention for coming off like a rare, reasonable voice in the Republican Party when it came to health care for coming up with something he called — and I didn't name it this, he named it this — the Jimmy Kimmel test, which was in a nutshell: No family should be denied medical care, emergency of otherwise, because they can't afford it."
"These insurance companies, they want caps, to limit how much they can pay out. So for instance, if your son has to have three open heart surgeries, it can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece. If he hits his lifetime cap of, let's say, a million dollars, the rest of his life, he's on his own."
"So last week, Bill Cassidy and Sen. Lindsey Graham proposed a new bill, the Graham-Cassidy bill. And this new bill actually does pass the Jimmy Kimmel test, but a different Jimmy Kimmel test.
"With this one, your child with a preexisting condition will get the care he needs — if, and only if, his father is Jimmy Kimmel. Otherwise, you might be screwed."
"Sen. Cassidy, you were on my show, you seem like you're a decent guy. But here's the thing: Nobody outside of your buddies in Congress wants this bill."
"Right now, there's a bipartisan group of senators working to improve the health-care system we have. ... [G]o pitch in and be a part of that ... And if not? Stop using my name."
See the video. ... Read the transcript.
Be smart: This clip is certain to get massive pickup in social media, and puts Republicans on the defensive in a way that no news article ever could. Kimmel's crusade is likely to become an instant case study in the power of popular culture to break through the Washington din.
I continue to be blown away by how little respect Alexander has for himself. What a pathetic little man he is for letting leadership bully him this way when he is a senior member of the party with an important chair-ship. The bipartisan process was going SO WELL.
Although honestly while I think Alexander should be mad because McConnell pulled the rug out from under him, at the end of the day maybe he is not that mad because he doesn't really want to save ACA.
It seems clear to me that McConnell (and the WH and Ryan) shut the bipatisan bill down because they wanted to make wavering Senators feel like it is GC or nothing, vs give them a chance to oppose GC in favor of the potential bipartisan fix. And if at the end of the day Alexander is in favor of repealing ACA, and shutting down the bipartisan talks may facilitate that, then maybe it didn't make him all that mad.
I am sort of hoping it makes McCain mad. He repeatedly said he supported the bipartisan effort and he seems one of the people they are trying to box in. I have a fantasy that beteeen the process complaints and being mad they are actively undermining regular order and trying to manipulate him he will get mad enough to tell them to GTFO. That's probably along the lines of wishing for a pony, but...
BTW I don't ever want to hear again criticism from GOP about how Dems did things on party lines.

Oh look. Cassidy is circulating numbers on Capitol Hill that are misleading to try to make red state colleagues think that the cuts for their states won't be bad and they will end up with ample money., when in reality they are likely to get screwed. For example his numbers don't take into account the per capita cap on Medicaid.
seeyalater52 can we hope there are lobbyists or something on the Hill that Senators like Murkowski and Capito will take seriously who might point out that Cassidy is a lying liar who lies?
I need some lawyers in here. So the G-C bill lets states decide if they will charge higher premiums for pre-existing conditions or if there is a lifetime cap, but there is another bill trying to make it illegal for a state to offer single-payer to its residents. How does that work? How can Congress say you can put these limitations on residents of your state, but hey other state you cannot provide more for your residents?

The first is removing a required minimum the second is providing a limit on the max that can be provided. It’s two separate things. It’s intellectually dishonest and morally reprehensible but legally doable. If you mean the 'states rights' aspect that isn’t what they are arguing, they are just choosing to allow states to se their minimum.

But if Republicans are all for states rights, which is what they are claiming they are doing by giving states the right to charge more for health care, why are they denying another state the ability to do single-payer? That is what I don't get.
ETA: I think you added the last part as I was typing.
More people need to use their platforms to appeal personally to people like Jimmy is doing. Most people were touched by his first monologue after his son was born because, well, you have to have a heart made of stone not to be touched by a newborn going into open heart surgery. There needs to be more targeting of messaging to drive home to people that their children, their loved ones, or they themselves, are going to be negatively impacted if this type of bill passes. Get people to look at their child with autism or DS or whatever health issue they may have and say "I can't support a bill that will hurt their healthcare." Right now they think they have it bad because of Obama and they don't all realize it will be SO MUCH WORSE under these GOP bills.

That’s the line I have been pushing, in my calls and on social media. DD has ASD and this would be horrific for her. I live in a deep red state so don’t have high hopes but am plugging away because you never know.

You don't get it because it doesn't make rational sense, not because you are missing anything. If you are truly pro states rights then you would say blue states, do what you want, red states, do what you want. This is just another example of GOP dishonesty and hypocrisy. They only want states rights and small government when it fits their purposes. When liberal jurisdictions enact programs they don't like - single payer, minimum wage increases, anti discrimination ordinances - then they think nothing about stepping in to dictate policy on high.
Unrelated: I am full of rage this morning by Cassidy and the GOP trying to gaslight everyone. Alllll the evidence and alllll the experts say this bill will be a disaster. The only response I see is "no it won't, it will cover more people." Stop. At least be honest. Also I read a really disheartening Vox article where they interviewed 9 Senators to try to get them to defend the policy. Not one could do it. All of them were "we have to repeal Obamacare" and "states rights" but not one could articulate any sort of defense or counter to the likely effects. At least Roberts was honest: he was like, it's the last car there is, and we have to get in a car, so....
But it is just scary and infuriating that our people who are in charge show either (1) complete indifference to the harm this bill will do (as in they don't care because to them cutting spending is he biggest deal and if people get hurt oh well bootstraps) or (2) so willing to delude themselves based on no evidence that people won't get hurt to chase their policy goal or (3) just ignorant with no interest in the effects. They literally have no interest in serving the best interest of the people and no compunction about sacrificing people for their self interest. And that's terrifying not just because of the harm this bill will do - what/who will they sacrifice next?
