So as not to derail the randoms thread, here are my ideas:
We are having a “just us” wedding in Badlands National Park. It is because of this park that we met. His first Christmas present to me was a Pendleton Badlands blanket. I hired a really incredible adventure photographer to follow us around South Dakota from sunrise to sunset.
I am growing most of my own flowers for my arrangement, which I am drying and then setting on fire when the sun goes down.
This is what my engagement ring looks like and parts of my dress is based around it:
I am from Deep South Texas and Mexican culture has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved Mexican weddings, so I want my dress to reflect that part of my life. Something like these, except not sure on the neckline/bodice yet:
It will be embroidered with shades of turquoise and teal. Mostly flowers and birds. Birds are another big part of our lives (our house is named La Casa de la Pajarita - the house of the little bird, one of our dogs is named Emma Bird, etc.).
For dramatic photographic purposes, I want a huge layered skirt, like this:
With turquoise and teal (very subtle) layers - not quite this intense of a shade variation:
I am wearing cowboy boots with turquoise birds on them that I’ve had for years:
That happens to be when the LARGEST BIKER RALLY in the world (Sturgis) is going on in SD.
In Colorado, you can marry yourselves (no jp required) so we are getting married on that date at the place we got engaged.
A month later we are doing the Badlands “ceremony” - thank gif because walking around the Badlands in early August in a giant wedding dress sounds like hell.

Love the dresses ideas. But I wouldn't wear the cowboy boots unless the boots means something to you (gift from a loved one for example. Cowboy boots became the basic wedding attire. Your dresses are nothing but basic. They deserve great shoes.

Thank you for that feedback. I agree about the basicness but they’re not really basic boots. I think I’ll have several shoe options for various scenes but for general walking around the Badlands, I need something more functional than heels, lol.

I've been to the badlands in August and I suggest these shoes It was like walking on wet clay.
Are you going to take your pictures in Custer state park?? It is going to be gorgeous. I love that place. And I was there during Sturgis 75th. Lots of motorbikes on the roads but otherwise it was OK.

YEs! Custer is on the list. Practically all of SD is on the list. Lol. This is going to be an outrageous day.

c7 yes but I actually have that first pic saved on Pinterest.
I need a crazy big skirt that will stand out against the incredible landscapes. But I am also thinking of having her make a one piece dress that’s more understated (for me, anyway) with a detachable giant skirt. Here’s a pic I took there in case y’all aren’t familiar:

This looks fantastic! Love the ideas. I have those boots, or very similar ones. I paid an obscene amount for them, but love them and save them for special things.

If you just like a dress but want the skirt a little different maybe you could buy a dress and have the seamstress adjust the skirt?

I wish I could do that but I have shopped all over south Texas and can’t find exactly what I want and sadly the two ladies I know who make these types of dresses are too old. :/ they don’t sew/embroider anymore. All the artisans are getting old.

That's exactly what I did! I hated the bottom but I loved the beaded top. I had her make the HUGE skirt into a straight skirt.
walterismydog, surely there's someone you could find?
I found someone (thanks to a fellow board friend, winecat) who has a lot of interesting work in her portfolio and I’m meeting with her next Friday. We will see what she says. Maybe she has connections if she is uncomfortable with it.
Your ideas look gorgeous. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I just chimed in to say that I have a dear friend who has that *exact* same pair of boots. I haven't seen her/her boots in a couple of years because she's off living life adventuring, but seeing the picture today just made me so happy.

Like Gilmore Girls! lol. But way cuter.
This is going to be such a beautiful wedding. I can't wait to see what your final look looks like. And I love the boots!
