Hmmm I worked in retail in the mid-90's and my store and rest of the mall opened at 10 on weekdays and 9 on Saturdays. I get what you're saying though, I think I'm just out and about earlier than I used to be and it's annoying when stuff isn't open. I think Target and the like open earlier.
connie0000, Yes. I was super annoyed to learn this when C was a baby and i went to the mall at 9 to get some shopping done without the crowds. It is highly annoying. I think this is to compensate them staying open later.

Our mall never opened until 10am in all the areas I’ve ever lived Sunday’s open at noon. I haven’t noticed anything opening later around my area.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
I will say, the doors of the malls around here open early, and sometimes there's a McDs there that opens. The oldz like to come and walk and meet for coffee. My Pop Pop used to do this and he died in 2006.
My biggest gripe is that our local businesses close on Mondays. It has been a big adjustment moving here from an urban area where things are open 7 days a week. It's obnoxious when I forget and try to order pizza, do flower delivery, order a bday cake, etc. on a Monday.
I find it odd that my local CVS doesn't open until 8 am. I have been sitting in the parking lot after dropping the kids off waiting for it to open. But I agree that before I had kids I never noticed these things and now that I'm up and out of the house so much earlier I notice it.

Yeah when I drop off Kid #1 at preschool at 8AM, I have 3 choices if I need to run errands - the grocery store (opens at 6 or 7AM, depending on the store), Wal-Mart (24 hours), or Target (8AM). The Kohls and Old Navy by me are open 9A-10P, though. I've gone to both after the kids are in bed, and after my Target/grocery store morning trip.
During the Christmas season, the malls by me are open later, not sure if they are open earlier during the week but I remember one mall by me opening at either 7AM or 8AM on Saturdays the 2 weeks before Christmas.
I think of grocery stores as opening early but not the mall until around 10. I feel like stores are closing earlier. Target used to be open until 11 and now it closes at 9 most days.
I don't know how people in other countries do it. When we were in England, France, Portugal and Belgium, most stores (even fairly big grocery stores) were only open 10-5:30 pm and closed Sundays and Mondays. The late night huge, chain grocery in France was only open to 9. Some of the smaller stores closed for an hour in the middle of the day too for lunch. How do people who work manage to get the shopping done? It isn't like everyone lives 1/2 a block from a shop.
I worked in retail most of my pre-kid life and 10 am was totally normal. Most of the time I thought that was too early and I thought the 8 and 9 am openings at Christmas were torture. Now I basically never go to the mall because it doesn't open early enough. My how times have changed, lol.
I am annoyed that our local Walgreens doesn't open until 8 and the pharmacy doesn't open until 9 or 10. WAY TOO LATE when you have a sick kid.

I feel like mall stores and retail like Best Buy, etc. have always opened later around 10ish, but grocery stores tend to open around 8 if they aren't 24 hour stores. I think it's true that 10 just seemed early before we had kids
My experience in the last 30 years is it's 10am for retail (except Target) and 11am for restaurants. Retail opens at 11 or 12 on Sunday.
Same. I worked at a mall in the 80's and 10 open, 9 close. Sundays were 12-5. If anything, I think it's the opposite, one of our malls now opens at 9 on Saturdays & 11 on Sundays. And weird - our WF opens at 7am. That is the best time for shopping - especially on a Sunday!
My sister and I met up at a mall on Saturday for shopping. It was suprising how different the store opening times were! Old Navy and Target were open, but most of the other stores didn't open until 11 and Loft didn't open until 12!!! On a Saturday! Stuff in MA defintely opens later and closes by 6 on Sundays (which is also annoying!). It is funny because before kids, H and I complained that stores weren't open late enough, but now after DD we were kind of shocked to learn stores don't open early enough! Funny how your perspective changes.
I wonder if part of this is due to the retail apocalypse. Retail stores are hurting, so maybe they are reducing hours to lower their costs. I noticed the big mall near us used to be open until 9:30 PM on weekdays and few years ago it pushed back to 9 PM.
I have told several people, if you are something I can take my kid to at 9am on Sunday (and not church) I will give you all of my money. Saturdays aren't bad, but damn if everything is closed until 12 on Sundays.
My biggest gripe is that our local businesses close on Mondays. It has been a big adjustment moving here from an urban area where things are open 7 days a week. It's obnoxious when I forget and try to order pizza, do flower delivery, order a bday cake, etc. on a Monday.
Small businesses? Pretty much all my small business friends are closed on Monday.
It has been this way as long as I can remember and it drives me bananas. On a Saturday morning I am halfway through my day by 10 am. It would be nice to not be restricted by late openings. It is another reason why I shop online.
Plus malls don't open until noon on Sundays. Some of us don't attend Sunday service. Why can't I run to the mall in the morning? It is not working family friendly to cut off access like that.
I always find it odd that my Whole Foods isn't open until 8am.
Twice in the past few weeks I have found myself as that person waiting for 8AM so I could go into Whole Foods. I really thought they would be open by 7 AM.
