Max's brother looks like a cross between Chad Lowe and Zac Efron.
And I don't know that his character was that over the top (aside from that weird bit with Mike's mom). His extreme tough guy act can be a hallmark of physical abuse, and given that one scene with his dad, that doesn't seem like much of a leap.
I thought he was a Lowe! It added to my confusion with Paul riser looking so much older. How did he age so much and a Lowe brother can still play a high schooler?
just loved loved loved this season and sad we don't have more episodes to watch!
the Chicago episode was like a pilot for another series stuck in there, was not a big fan of it and I know I'm not the only one.
I think 4 seasons sounds about right because they have to do a time jump between every season as the kids age so fast. Plus I am a fan of writers having an end game in mind and working towards that. Don't let it be like fucking Greys Anatomy

We finished it on Halloween and I thought it was awesome. I was really nervous going in, because last season was so perfect and I was worried the story wouldn’t be as good, but it delivered.
Except the part where they killed off Rudy. Fuck that part.
Up to that point Eleven had been a one dimensional character. She was the girl with the magic powers. She had a bit of a backstory, and was working towards anger and revenge. Her relationship with Hopper was degrading fast as she had all that anger bottled up inside and didn't know how to let it go. Eight was what Eleven could have become. Driven solely for revenge. Killing everyone that had ever hurt her. Becoming *exactly* what Papa wanted her to be - a weapon. Eleven faced that life and saw what she could become... and didn't take that route. She decided that she wanted friends and family, and love. The things that had been taken from her, which she never would have if she went down Eight's path.
I think sometimes people get too caught up in the demodogs/shadow being blah blah adventure, to really look at how well written this is and the underlying stories.
I liked that Eleven got her own episode (that actress is the whole reason we watched season one the day it came out, loved her in The Intruders) but the episode itself was so cheesy and not in a good way—just very very heavy handed. They were like Scooby-Doo villains especially the “punk” guy. It was almost like a backdoor pilot but not with anyone I’d want to see again.
Max was a fine character but I sill don’t know why her stepbrother didn’t want her to befriend the boys. I thought it maybe it had to do something with the parents/keeping her away from the kids who knew about the upside down but apparently not?

I got the impression that it was Lucas in particular he didn't want her to befriend. I chalked it up to racism, though obviously he never explicitly said.

That’s what we thought too but I felt like there was a scene earlier on where he told her not to be friends with any of the boys? I could be wrong. Either way, it didn’t add anything to the story—his behavior just set up a storyline they never explored.

I felt like they are using these two undeveloped storylines to have somewhere to go in season 3.

I think so but surely they could have beefed them up a little bit if they wanted us to care about them.
I know the show isn’t super into character development which is fine but the brother’s character’s behavior was so pointless it just took away from time they could have given to plot. They should have just introduced Max now and then gave her parents etc in 3. She didn’t do much so knowing that she lived off a rural street and played video games was enough since the show is mostly action oriented.
And really, I’m okay if I don’t see Eight’s crew ever again. I think the creators just aren’t great about character development/no action drama so they ended up with the least nuanced way possible to show us that Eleven could have chosen a different path.
I just finished last night. This season was good, but I agree about Max. Hopefully they get more into her character next season. Sean Astin was great. And I loved when Dustin did his hair and they were all at the dance. Reminded me of a younger kids version of pretty in pink.
Does anyone think Dustin has the "virus" now? When he got some of the pit monster juices in his mouth, they never went anywhere with it. He just said he was fine.

I don't think he actually did, just was being overly dramatic. Plus, if that's true, Hopper is infected too since he definitely was sprayed.
It was fabulous. I totally loved all the 80's stuff and felt like it was easier to glide in to this season with more background. My H reminded me they are our age in 84 and that makes it seem more familiar. Sad it's over 💜

He's the red power ranger! I'm thinking Max's dad is somehow going to reopen the gate in the next season or somehow be involved with the evil side of it all. I just loved Dustin in this one and actually wanted to see Max's brother built up more and actually do something more. I really felt for his character and everything he was dealing with.
We finished last night and I loved this season even more than the first one. The new characters were really good. I watched Beyond Stranger Things and it was interesting.
And does anyone else think that Billy looks like a young Chad Lowe?
Just finished it - we watched the last 3 or 4 eps today. I’m still processing it all so mostly just in here liking stuff.
For a bit there I did think Bob somehow was tied to the lab or the shadow monster - like he knew that Will would get possessed/infected by it if he confronted it, which is why he told Will about his dream. Because he either wanted Will outta the way so he could peacefully be with Joyce or otherwise get rid of Will/help the shadow monster take over everything through Will. Also feeding into that theory was the quick point in the lab right after they first torched the tunnel and burned up Will’s insides, and Joyce grabbed his hand and said he was so cold - like how the shadow monster wants it cold.
Anyway that obviously did not play out that way cuz he was destroyed by the demadogs, lol.
Also I bet 008 comes to help 011 in the next season. I got the sense she was a bit regretful when 011 left to save her friends/family, in that she didn’t make that choice, and may go to 011 to sort of restart her life with family.
I’m also thinking Max’s dad is tied to the lab/bad people somehow.
I did love how Max took care of that whole situation so he won’t mess with her anymore. I kinda wonder what the purpose of his character will be from now on? Cuz without being able to mess with Max, he doesn’t have much else going on, character development-wise. The only thing is maybe helping his dad do bad things?
For some reason the last few times I’ve watched a an episode this season, I end up having the song Take on Me by A Ha in my head. The graphic novel world in the video is sorta like the upside down, right??

I kind of picked up a gay vibe from Billy, which may explain his behavior and over compensating - especially with a dad that throws the f-word around and bullies him like that. I don’t know, up until the point he beat the crap out of Steve, I wanted him to redeem himself.

ETA:
Did you know the end to that video continues in the beginning of the video of their song "The Sun Always Shines on TV"?

i finished this last night and was avoiding this thread on purpose.
without reading the previous posts, my immediate reactions
1) the episode in Chicago was a complete waste for me. You end with demidogs coming up through the floor but then take us on this journey with the punk rock squad. They could have split that episode up. I am interested in the sister and her gang of misfits but i just kept waiting for it to go back to the lab and it never did. 2) i am very much in favor of more female characters but adding Max, her brother and the family was more distraction and just adding for the sake of adding - i didn't get why we needed more people. I don't get why they added them. 3) I knew Sean Bob was going to die the minute they went into the room with all the security cameras. 4) when creepy detective reporter guy asked how the pull out was, i almost died laughing. 5) Winona Ryder is really really good in this. 6) Dustin keeping the "tadpole" from the garbage can annoyed the shit out of me. dude, what the hell did you think that was?
