My dad (doctor) and stepmom (lawyer) are pretty well off, but they like to complain about not having money. They waste money on dumb shit though,
Other than that probably my husband's best friend. He made about 1/2 mil last year has a really nice house, maserati, goes on tons of great vacations. But, he's totally down to earth, nice guy, wears t-shirts and shorts, fun to be around. He owns a company that sales junk mail to auto dealers.

Hmm. That's quite a car for someone who only makes $500k.

My Mom’s boss turned family friend. The family currently deals in a lot of land acquisitions and sales but were in n a different industry previously. They take private planes to Europe, the Super Bowl, etc among other luxuries. They are incredibly down to earth and very friendly.
Eric's grandmother. She is a widow who inherited a lot of $$$$$$ from Eric's grandfather.
PDQ: His grandfather started a company that still has stores nationwide and made a lot of money in Houston real estate in the Memorial, River Oaks, Tanglewood, Galleria areas.

Like really actually personally know.
This person is a contact in your phone, and you are in his or her phone.
By the phone test, it would be a family friend. How do you know this person? She grew up with my mother in a small town.
How did this person make all that money?
She married well. She and her husband are both very talented lawyers but he made the real money by being the majority partner in a huge firm.
What is this person like?
Gracious and kind and warm in social situations but also a little reserved. Like, she is always impeccable but wears buttoned up clothing and takes a minute to warm up. She travels a ton and does a lot of philanthropy and volunteer work. I’ve never seen her snap or be snide or sarcastic. She’s the most polished woman I know. Normally that type of personality would bore me but she’s actually really fun.

I’ve got a couple...
1: Childhood friend. She was in our wedding. She got a REALLY high paying job out of law school and has been very smart with her money. Her goal is to retire by 35 and she’s on her way. Down to earth and generous.
2: Principal/boss. She’s got some side gigs going on that pay really well and was also very smart with her money from an early age. I think she intimidates people who don’t know her, but we get along great. She’s fun to be around. I think she’s caring.
My uncle (dad's oldest brother). He started an IT/software firm in this 20s that blew up. He lives in Singapore and was named Entrepreneur of the year numerous times by the government themselves and magazines, has met a bunch of important people (world leaders, royalty etc). Super super loaded. Has a super expensive Maserati (in Singapore, the licensing fee to just get the vehicle on the road is several hundred thousand, this is before you actually add up the cost of the vehicle itself). He also owns other expensive cars, but this is his love. He also owns numerous homes there and all over the world (it's extremely expensive to own a house there) and is constantly travelling.
He has no children and his wife is wealthy by herself so my cousins and I will inherit his money/assets when he passes.
He's been invited by Oxford University and other prestigious universities (I think Harvard Business school was one) to speak at convictions and give guest lectures. His passion is for teaching so he's co-written some textbooks that these universities use as well. I wouldn't say he's down to earth lol but very generous with his money and a huge, huge family person. He travels all over to see his brothers and their families, give generous gifts etc. Super blunt and doesn't beat around the bush.
A lot of H's friends and colleagues make millions a year. His boss is currently making close to $6M a year. Nature of some positions in his industry; sadly not H's...maybe someday.
Most of the partners I work with make close to or above $1M/year.
I have several good friends who come from tons of family money, through regional and national businesses and holdings.

I know a few professional athletes that I have met through my husband. Some are nice and some are complete idiots. I would say Lebron is probably the richest person we know. We have had dinner with him and his wife a few times and they are incredibly kind and very, very down to earth.

I love judging people I don't even know!!!!! LOL.
My guess is it's under the business and he leases it.

I don't really know anyone that is "rich." I think my grandma was left quite a bit by her husband, but I don't know how much. Her husband founded a company that was the first or one of the first to manufacture and sell the rolls of plastic produce bags at the grocery store.
The guy we share a MLS suite with is worth millions. He's written software that auto dealers use. When the company was bought out, his share was like 50 mil? Since then, he's started another software company that has taken off. He's 35 and lives in the largest, newest house in the neighborhood; they have his/her Ferrari's, an SUV, and is on his second Tesla.
ETA: He and his wife are also down to earth. You'd never know he was a multimillionaire just meeting him. He's kind of like an adult Opie Taylor.
I have a friend that is doing well but I honestly don't know how much money he makes/spends. He's lucky b/c his job is to literally be friends with celebrities and document it. So, I bet about 75% of what he does that is fabulous is paid for by his job. He could make pennies for all I know.
My husband’s uncle. He’s a corporate lawyer who has gone through several huge mergers and acquisitions for companies works at and come out with some SERIOUS payoffs when all is complete. He and his wife and daughter are really quite lovely and they live relatively modestly for how much $$ they have.
My parent's best friends and my godparents are the richest people I know. His grandfather was a super successful architect, and she comes from WAYYY old family money. They have gobs of land, but live in a very reasonable house that his grandfather built. I've never really known them to have actual jobs, though she breeds and shows dogs. I didn't actually know they were rich until I graduated from high school and their gift was 10 times bigger than any other gift I received, they're really chill about it. Their kids have MASSIVE trust funds, and one is obnoxious with it, and the other is one of the hardest working people I know. It's interesting to watch. My husband and I joke about wanting them to leave their second vacation home to us, which is a modest cabin in the woods that they've generously let us use on multiple occasions. He figures their kids are all set between their actual home and first, nicer vacation home, and the trust funds and all.
I would guess the richest people I know would be my cousin and her husband. Her husband has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years as a writer, director , and producer. Two of their children have a band which is pretty successful so I'm guessing they are starting to make their own money, too. My cousin is a lovely, gracious, down-to-earth person. her husband is more introverted and aloof, but also a really good person.

I met her through another friend who I knew years ago in a bible study.
Her husband went all in on a tech startup that is now insanely profitable. A quick search said at one point they were making 2 billion annually-with a b. I'd have to check to see if they're still on the billionaire list. To be fair we live in an area with an insane concentration of wealth.
She is focused-in her conversations, her interests, things she deems as important. She is insanely witty, intelligent and sharp. She is generally put together, but not in a glitzy sort of way. More just very polished. Her husband is warmer than her initially, but they're both very kind.
My H is friends with a guy who inherited mega millions... His grandfather started a bank buying business and eventually they became one of the US's largest. The bank sold for billions but the grandson still sits on the board & owns like 30% stock in the bank.
Otherwise we also know a guy who created a software. He wrote a book and has recently became a huge household name due to his software.

probably my uncle. he was a senior exec in a large oil company. he's the kind of guy who's there, but not there. very quiet, doesn't chit chat much, but when he has something to say he talks. he leaves all the talking to my aunt.
that said, in order to move up in the company he was forced to move around a lot. they lived everywhere from Delaware to Kansas to Venezuela. because of that, and the fact that he was gone a lot, his kids grew up largely undisciplined. one of my cousins, at age 16, had a pretty significant liquor collection in her room that her parents were oblivious to. the other one had some significant anger issues until he was 10 or so.

It used to be a tie between my dad (doctor) and my aunt and uncle.
Now it’s my aunt and uncle. They are both very smart. My uncle owns a business and my aunt (retired director of an automotive company) works as a consultant. I have no idea how much money they make but they paid cash for their new house which is well over $500k (they downsized). They have a ‘cottage’ that is bigger than my house on a lake. They are extremely generous kind people.
My dad is a dipshit. He was once a well respected doctor in his field but because of his choices he has lost a lot of respect from his colleagues and subsequently lost his practice.
I know a few professional athletes that I have met through my husband. Some are nice and some are complete idiots. I would say Lebron is probably the richest person we know. We have had dinner with him and his wife a few times and they are incredibly kind and very, very down to earth.
I am infinitely jealous of you and also happy to hear that he truly is such a great guy.
How did this person make all that money? Married a guy that she put through college and law school who went on to become a pretty high dollar attorney in CA - she "works for" him but takes half of his earnings (even though they're divorced)
What is this person like? Sweet, kind, generous. Not flashy. Prefers her F150 over all the other fancy cars she has owned. Likes to get her hands dirty. Still a country girl at heart. Just a well-traveled, wealthy one.
Another one is a high school friend who has a background in marketing, worked for professional sports teams and high dollar car dealerships. She married a guy from work and sold her business, but they just opened an exotic car dealership (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, etc.).
My uncle He's retired now but was an investment banker He's very mellow, travels a lot, has gorgeous homes. He has a knack for picking out hilarious birthday and holiday cards, no idea where he finds them. I can never match the humor level when I look for cards to send him so I look for funny animal ones now.
My nephew’s wife belongs to the family responsible for the Call of Duty video game series. She’s a sweet girl, a little spoiled, I suppose, but no more than your average millennial, lol.
My friend was born into money (real estate), made more money as a partner in a big name law firm, married a man who was a partner at another DC law firm and was subsequently widowed. Is currently dating a big name in the business side of the music industry. Money seems to find her.
She is lovely, impeccably mannered, driven, and brilliant.
I don't know who the wealthiest person I know is but, I have a childhood friend who plays in the NFL. I don't know if I would call him down to earth, but he's a nice guy and a good friend.
