By a 20-point margin, more Americans blame President Trump and Republicans rather than Democrats for a potential government shutdown, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
A 48 percent plurality says Trump and congressional Republicans are mainly responsible for the situation
The Post-ABC poll finds Democrats are more united in blaming Republicans for the situation than vice versa. A 78 percent majority of Democrats say Trump and congressional Republicans are mainly responsible for the potential government shutdown, while a smaller 66 percent of Republicans blame Democrats in Congress. One in seven Republicans, 14 percent, say Trump and Republicans are to blame.
This poll was obviously conducted by outlets that are more frequented by democrats, but I think it shows that they are getting the message out there. A fox poll is never going to show blame on republicans.

Wondering where you guys are seeing R’s controlling the narrative? Links?
They're trying at least.
My rep has posted like 6 times in the last 2 hrs about how Republicans only have a slim majority so they need Dems for anything to pass, therefore Dems fault if nothing passes.

Based on the comments, people aren't having it.
I mean, posting on their own twitter or Facebook isn’t controlling the narrative. Everyone gets to control the content on their personal accounts. There’s no way for D’s to control those statements. Is that what people in this thread are meaning when they say controlling the narrative? Every D that I follow has made a statement today saying that R’s are responsible.
ETA: I’m not trying to be combative with you. I just am wondering what people would have dems do differently at this point.
The fact that you can’t really tell says it all lol
Well this part is obviously real:
He kept showing me he was on the cover of a magazine that had just come out and it was some sort of money magazine, I wish I could remember which one it was. But he had it in the room and he kept showing it to me and I was like, “Dude, I know who you are.” He was trying to sell me, I guess. The first time I met him, the first couple of hours, he was very full of himself, like he was trying to impress me or something. But I do remember he just kept talking about this magazine that he was on the cover of, like, “Look at this magazine, don’t I look great on the cover?”

I honestly think they're doing a good job.
Yup. I have seen their messaging guidance and it's excellent. And our press teams are doing headline analysis and there's no way Republicans are controlling the narrative outside of maybe very conservative outlets (Fox, Brietbart lol). Also there are other private independent polls (not associated with news outlets) that are showing even higher numbers saying that Republicans are responsible and are sampled to account for about even distribution of political party. Even the crosstabs show a surprising number of Republicans think it's their party's fault, which I wasn't expecting.
Part of the perceived messaging failure is that Republicans have the bully pulpits of the Presidency and Congressional leadership positions. It’s hard to counterbalance.

No I agree, but it's a stark contrast to the Dems I follow. For my own senators, Sen Tina Smith is hitting it hard, but Sen Amy Klobuchar is totally silent - which is weird because she's usually pretty vocal about stuff.
I'm behind in this thread but you have control of the motherfucking Senate, House and Presidency. If you cannot get shit done, there is no way the other party is responsible.

I guess my point in trying to figure out where everyone is coming from on the "controlling the narrative" thing is that we (dems - here and elsewhere) are pretty critical of our reps, but I think they're doing a good job all things considered. The republicans have passed less legislature than they should have, and I think that D's deserve some credit for that. We have flipped seats in unlikely states. A lot of these things have to do with messaging. Not all, and I know there are independent groups working on these things as well, but I think that it's important for us to not lament a group that is doing a good job with the limited power that they have currently.

Klobuchar is one of the most vulnerable Democratic Senators up for re-election in 2018. I am not surprised at all that she's keeping her mouth shut and not singing out of Schumer's songbook. There are a lot of factors for them to weigh when deciding when and what they should say.

Really? That really surprises me. There's only one person running against her and he failed miserably the last tried.

I don't work in Minnesota at all so I don't know the history, but that's been billed as one of the ones to watch out for by our government affairs team. Either way, I think being cautious in an election year is really predictable behavior.

I was surprised that one of my leans-liberal friends was posting that she was angry at the democrats for this. At least for her, the message is not getting through. She's in Sacramento, I'm not sure who her rep is.
My stupid blue dog rep (Kurt Schrader) sent out some bullshit yesterday that he was really angry at the lack of leadership, but he carefully didn't call out which team's leadership. It read like he was trying to have either side read into it that he was blaming the other party. I know I'm in a purple district, but I am so fed up with his fake bipartisanship. I mean, I know it's important to reach across the aisle but he does it on things that make no fucking sense, just so he can say he's mavericky or whatnot. Bleh.
Merkely has been excellent as per usual. Wyden is quieter, but that's also his style.
I only wanted to know if she comments about the teeny tinyness- “Is it in..? Is it in yet?” I’m going to pretend that happened, & DGAF how ridiculously petty that makes me 😌

Stormy Daniels, former mistress to the President, is putting in appearance at a strip club in Greenville, SC this weekend as part of her "Make America Horny Again" tour.
These are words I never thought I'd type and it doesn't appear to be satire.

That surprises me too. I thought Klobuchar would be somewhat safe due to popularity, the Pharma amendment Bernie supported, her Progressive reputation, etc. But it absolutely makes sense that she's quiet with her seat being up for grabs in 2018.
I checked my senators FB pages and noted that Patty Murray has been commenting but Maria Cantwell has been silent on the subject. She's been posting mainly environmental stuff since that's her primary focus. Her seat is up in 2018 and there are a bunch of asshats - er, Progressives - calling to primary her because she didn't vote for the Klobuchar amendment (though I go to her page and Patty's regularly to yell at them to check her vote on Wyden and which Rs voted for Klobuchar and why because they're total one-candidate Bernie-as-a-Savior morons with no focus beyond St. Birdie.)

Cantwell is way more vulnerable than Klobuchar. I think She and Donnelly and Manchin are the top 3 we are most worried about. The good news is that I think enough Democrats are saying what needs to be said. I dont personally feel like anyone should jeopardize their seat over it, especially to make what is largely a rhetorical point. A shutdown will be very unpopular among the democratic base even if it is with “good” reason and more the fault of the Republicans.

I think “most vulnerable” with a sample size of 8 is also sort of a silly overstatement. The top 4 of those races where the seat is more in play are the more vulnerable ones, and then there are a couple (Brown in OH for example) who I dont worry about for one second. But it’s a really small sample so I dont mean to be alarmist.
