Like someone said above, some people are just more susceptible. I get it 2-3 times per year (one year, I had it 6 times). My kids have each had it twice (they are 6 & 8). My husband has never had it.
Ugh. I have had it 4 times over the past 2 years. DH got it twice. I have always suspected that my kids may be carriers. Strep is seriously the freaking worst. It also doesn’t help that anytime I get a sore throat now I am paranoid it’s gonna be strep again.
You can have them tested to see if they are carriers.
DD didn't start to get it until after her tonsils were out. She would test positive for strep with barely a temp an no white spots in her throat but she was crying and complaining of her throat hurting. So when we went in for a regular well child check, the doctor suggested doing a strep test on her since she was feeling great and no symptoms. If it came back positive, she would've been considered a carrier. But, it came back negative. So she's not a carrier and just gets it.
Also, if you have dogs and keep getting strep, you can ask the vet for an antibiotic for your dog. They can have strep and not have symptoms at all and just keep giving it to humans.

Wow thanks I had no idea that dogs could be carriers too! Would never have guessed that.
Thanks for all the answers! I always thought strep was a normal thing to get, I had no idea there are people out there who have never had it.
So her temp was normal when we got to the doctors, but her throat was inflamed and the rapid strep test came back positive. So ABX for her! Predictably, her temp spiked again this evening. I'm always paranoid that I'm going to take her to the doc for a fever and then she's not going to have a temperature and I'm going to get flamed by the doctor for bringing her in. Her doctor isn't too worried about the number of strep infections unless they're coming in within months of each other. Since she's averaging once a year, with at least 6 months between infections, he's not too concerned yet. She's just susceptible to it. She's going to end up missing 4 days of school this week, and she's missing her school's Play Day which is really disappointing. She'll go back on Friday. I am so ready for her to be out of the house for a day! H wen't back to work today, and he's being held over tomorrow, so it's trial by fire for me. Two days in a row with a sick 6 year old and a 6 week old. Fun(NOT!).
I did not know dogs could carry it. Useful info to know.

I'm pretty sure I have it right now (going to the doctor tomorrow). I'm 46 and get it every 12-18 months for the last 10 years or so. I got it frequently as a kid, too. I don't have kids, so I can't speak to that, but I wanted to participate since it's timely for me.
