Out of curiosity, how often do your kids get strep?
B is sick, and I suspect strep. I'm calling the pedi first thing in the morning. But it got me thinking she seems to get it at least once a year, I'm wondering if that is normal or if she's more susceptible to it for some reason.
To date: DD1 has had it twice (age 4 and age 7). DD2 has had it once (age 4). I've had it twice (age like-9-or-something and again this past winter at age 38).
My 12 yr old has it 2-3 times a yr, and has had tonsillitis twice. We were just discussing with his dr at what point we’d do a tonsillectomy, but thankfully he hasn’t had it in about 6 months. My 8 yr old has only had it twice I think. DH had strep constantly as a kid before he had his tonsils out.
It's interesting to me that so many of you have never had it. I had it several times a year as a kid (they talked about taking my tonsils out but it dropped off when I was six or so). DS hasn't had it as much but at least three or four times in his life.

Neither has ever had it, but H found out last week he had strep, so it’s likely what DS had the week before that. This is the first time I’ve had street since I had my tonsils out at 8.

My older daughter got it quite often when she was younger - probably averaged twice a year. She hasn’t had it in years now though (she is 12). My younger daughter has never had it.

My pediatrician told me that it’s fairly uncommon in young kids but DD gets it about once every other year or so. She also used to get frequent ear infections. And she snores.
I don’t think it’s anything to worry about on its own but I know they asked about strep when they were doing an initial screening for sleep apnea. I’m not sure what the relationship is — maybe larger than average tonsils?

That makes sense. My dd has large tonsils. She had her adenoids removed but not her tonsils.
I had it around 10yo, as a teen, and again in my 20's.
My kids (almost 11yo and 8yo) have never had it. They've also never had an ear infection, and bounce back from colds/respiratory viruses really quickly (like DH).
My oldest (9) got it all the time until she had her tonsils removed 2 years ago (along with her 3rd set of tubes, she’s an ENT nightmare). No strep since. My youngest never gets it. My dh is a pedi and would definitely say that kids are either generally prone to it or not. Just like ear infections are often due to Eustachian tubes that do not drain correctly, frequent strep is often set up by flaws in anatomy.

My 6 year old had strep 7 times last year. She ended up having her tonsils removed in the fall. Two weeks ago she started puking and spiked a high fever, confirmed it was strep at the doctors. My 9 year old has had strep 3 times this year so far. Seems like we can’t catch a break.
