A fire ripped through our town last night. I don’t know what I’m posting for, just if you could send some good thoughts this way. It’s devastating. So many homes lost and 2 people confirmed dead, 1 a bull doze worker and 1 a firefighter. We are just in shock here. It’s reported as 44,000 acres and 3 % contained, as of this morning. It was 20,000 and 10% yesterday.
Sending tons of good thoughts - we have cousins who had to evacuate Idyllwild a couple nights ago because of the Cranston Fire, so all the fires are top of mind.
Yes, we are ok for now. I have everything packed in the car in case we need to evacuate and my parents house is about 15 miles South and I can go there, if needed. We are evacuating my BF’s parent’s house. They are in the path but still a ways North. It’s just moving so fast. It’s been so hard to get accurate information on evacuations or where it’s at and there is just smoke and ash everywhere. I think my best friend lost her house.
ETA - it’s supposed to be 112 here today and so many people are without power.

Is this the Carr fire? I was watching it on the news yesterday. It’s terrifying and I’m so sorry you and your loved ones are in the path. I hope things stabilize soon.
Technically, this year’s fire season hasn’t even officially started yet and there are fires up and down the state. My thoughts are with everyone affected.

I woke up this morning and my facebook was all photos from friends in that area. It's really terrible and moving so fast, plus all/most of the radio stations up there are off the air because the fire went through the transmitter/tower site, so I'm sure that is complicating matters when it comes to getting information out.
I'm glad you have somewhere to go if necessary. Be safe, and please keep us updated.

yikes- i'm so sorry. Fires scare the crap out of me, especially after reading about the fire's in CA last year. The seem so much more unpredictable than hurricanes & tornados/storms.

My friend's bf's parents were told to leave yesterday and they were heading down to her house. She wisely told them to take photos of every room as a worst case scenario precaution.

I hate wild fire season ...
This is a super smart idea.
I was evacuated during the San Diego fires about 10 years ago, it's terrifying and still sticks with me. Flames were about 1/4 from our apartment complex, we missed the fireman coming up the hill to tell people to get out, luckily a friend tried called us to ask us if we were at the local evac spot and I was like "Um, what?" then looked out the front door and was like "HOLY FUCK". We packed up our car with essentials, took photos of everything else just in case. Luckily we were fine, but I remember driving back home seeing both sides of the freeway scorched. It was so sad.
My thoughts are with yo u@ajj. I'm a NorCal native, driven through Redding SO many times on my way to/from Oregon. It's always a stop I look forward to because In N Out and it also starts to feel so much like "home" once you move down past Shasta.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
That is so scary, and so heartbreaking for everyone affected.
Stay safe, and err on the side of caution.
A former coworker of DH lost everything in the fire in Ventura last year. He kept thinking that they were safe and didnt even pack anything in their cars, even though they really did have a fair amount of time (more than 24 hrs) between the first evacuations and when they were evacuated. Everyone on FB (all of us former Californians who moved with the job) kept telling him to pack up and leave, but he was sure that they were safe...until they weren't. All they had were their cars when they finally left.
The parents of my daughters friend were in the first wave of evacuations, and in 10 minutes or so, they managed to save computers, important papers, a lot of art (one daughter is an artist and was storing work for a new show there), after having been woken up to the evacuation order in the middle of the night. What they forgot was clothing....they only had pjs. They lost everything, but joked that in hindsight, grabbing a change of clothes might have been a good idea.
My cousin was oot for work, but his wife packed up as much as she could fit in the car with she and the kids, and took them to her mil in a safer area in the next city over. Their house was in an area that ended up being safe, but they were glad that they took the opportunity to get out of there just to be sure.

H’s friend is a firefighter in the Redding area. I just can’t imagine how hard he must be working right now. His family must be losing their minds. It’s just so scary.
I'm obsessively updating Facebook, checking in on people. You're in my thoughts too.
We are still ok where we are. I still have everything ready in case we need to go. My parent’s house is in Cottonwood and they are out of town. I was planning to go there, if needed. But now I’m worrying about needing to go get their things with the way the fire is moving.
My best friend and her mom and sister have all lost their houses. It’s just devastating.
The winds are supposed to shift it back towards Redding tonight. The winds just keep changing directions and it’s causing more problems.
