My ILs don’t have cable and they have a TV in their main room they hang out in and one in the kitchen that is right next to said room. They put both on the same station and blare them. It honestly drives me to drink. I think my MIL thinks I have some sort of sleep issue because I will go hide in our room there and she assumes I nap. Really I’m just hiding from the CBS. Or the local news. Blaring. On two TVs. One is a slight delay. It truly drives me mad.
I hate to break it to you all, but much of what you all are describing are not just Boomer problems, they are most-of-America-regardless-of-age problems.

Milennials CAN’T be watching CBS. I refuse to believe people under 40 are watching God Friended Me and NCIS
I opened their fridge, and there is just SO MUCH STUFF. Half of it is clearly leftovers that are never going to be eaten.
This is my parents. Except the fridge is basically all sauces and condiments. And other things that cannot just be eaten by themselves. Most of them expired. My sister and I always joke to each other that despite the fact that I couldn't even fit a few of DS' bottles or sippy cups in the fridge, there's not actually anything to eat in their house. Unless you want to eat 17 varieties of mustard on stale crackers.
And the TV. Ugh. It is always BLARING. Even when they visit us my quiet house goes from peaceful with the TV on low to blaring and cords for all their devices in every spare outlet. And my dad refuses to get a hearing aid or turn down the damn TV.
Yes to all of this. And the missing fun bc they’re in their iPads. All of this.
I had a really good piece of bread, put some butter on it. It was almost two years expired. WTF. Which means I MOVED THAT EXPIRED CRAP for them last year.

Nobody is watching God Friended Me.
NCIS though, for sure. That is ALL my dad watches.
And my in-laws have so much crap in their fridge that they just store the Thanksgiving leftovers in the garage on or the porch because they won't fit. :/
I'm positive that it's because they eat the most questionable food ever. My MIL wanted to eat 3week old cold cuts and leftovers from a party. It isn't healthy. I mean I'm all about leftovers but 3 week old cold cuts?!?!?
And then they’ll wonder why they always have upset stomachs

There is a show called God Friended Me? That sounds....awful.
We accidentally watched the first episode of God Friended Me. It was surprisingly ok, if you're into God related shows. We haven't watched any more though.

Don't people under 40 watch the Big Bang Theory?
As in God sent you a FB friend request? I am thoroughly baffled and loving this. CBS = old people = FB God connections... now I get why FB released that new messenger kids to get kids hooked. It's mostly Baby Boomers on FB and they know their demographic is going to die within about 15-30 years and millennials are only on there to show pictures to their parents.
I also did not know that so many people in the US use paper plates daily. I understand if you don't have a way to cook meals or clean dishes that it is better to use paper plates so you get fed, but everyday suburban Americans are not using regular plates to eat their sandwiches on? I've never really been in one of those homes - even my ultra conservative uncles/aunts use regular plates unless it's a huge gathering.
My dad prints out Mapquest directions to our house.
No paper plates though. My mom is obsessive over having the proper item for her food. Soup bowls for soup. Salad plates for salad. She also is obsessive over her tea. Stop everything, it’s 4:00, a cup has to be made right now.
But YES to the overstocking of food and the K-cup usage and the giant SUV for no discernible reason. If they visit they bring K cups with them so they don’t have to use my refillable one. My parents used to be slightly crunchy back in the day. What the hell happened?
What drives me nuts is how unadventurous they are. No traveling, no dates, nothing. Blah underseasoned roasts, the Weather Channel, and an occasional takeout night from Applebee’s.

I just saw a commercial for it last night an told DH I thought it looked cute, lol! I'd totally watch it and give it a try.

Do you follow Reese Witherspoon on IG? She made a story one time about how when her mom comes to visit her she brings this box of all her drinks. A giant tub of instant Folgers coffee, Crystal Light mix, Ensure, a box of Sweet N Low, powdered coffee creamer, etc. It was so funny to think that even her mom does that!

It’s looks like a “touched by and angel” kind of thing — apparently, from previews, now that God and the main character (characters?) are friends, God “suggests” random friends who are actually people who need some kind of help from the main character/characters.
We watch Bull, so we see the commercials. I’m 38 and H is almost 40, so I guess we are old enough to watch CBS?

We just started watching Manifest (and are a few episodes behind) but that kind of seems like the premise to that show as well? It all centers around a bible verse (Romans 8:28) and some "force" is leading them to help people. Not sure yet if that force is ultimately good or evil though.

I’m screwed because I think that sounds cute. 39 over here lol.

Survivor is on CBS, so I still watch that. I guess some kind of sport must be on CBS sometimes because H and I have commented (multiple times) about the stupid name "God friended me" but I can't think of any other reason we'd actually be watching that channel? I don't watch Survivor with him.
My parents are definitely guilty of the bad TV. They love reality TV shows too, like Naked and Afraid and The Voice and basically any competition show. My H and I always laugh at advertisements for stupid TV shows and jokes that my parents will be watching that.
Beyond that my parents are pretty normal and not typical boomers. Maybe it's because they are pretty young boomers (they turned 60 this year). They probably use paper plates more often than I do, but it's definitely not the norm. My dad drives my mom bonkers with his need to have the TV on all the time. I definitely think that's generational and my mom is the odd one there. It seems pretty common among all of their peers as well. In their current house my dad can go into a den and shut the door to watch TV, which has made retirement much more pleasant for them both.

This probably the source of a significant amount of the tension with my dad (except he can season his food). They rarely travel. They are just not interested in trying new things.
My mom does some typical Boomer things that make me roll my eyes, but she is much more adventurous. My mom is almost 68 but uses Instagram and has a fierce emoji game when she texts me!
ETA: And I want to say that they rarely travel because they are just not interested in it, not because they can't afford it. I don't judge people at all who don't travel for financial reasons (which is a LOT of people). I realized it could sound poor-shaming to judge people for not travel. It's the lack of curiosity that makes me roll my eyes.
My mom brings her cereal when she visits. She also brings her own washcloths?? When we were in driving distance she used to bring an egg crate pad for the guest bed lol. She also brings frozen gromud beef and sausage (my dad’s a farmer). I love that she does that.
She’s very frugal though so would never dream of using paper plates regularly. She does use a ton of paper towels bc they are “more sanitary”. Ok Mom.
My dad blares the tv and/or conservative talk radio constantly. He’s totally drank the Fox News kool aid and is hard to even talk to :/

Dear lord that is my MIL. She travels with a whole mess of beverages and is so rigid about when and what she drinks. I don’t understand it at all but I legit only drink water 99.9% of the time. It drives her crazy that I won’t drink bottled water at their house. First of all I don’t want to. But they have a fridge with a water and ice thing. What is that for if not for me to drink it?

The only show worth watching on CBS is Star Trek Discovery, and you have to pay for it. Totally worth it, BTW.
And to keep it OT, my mom is a Better Boomer. She is a Dem, composts, has backyard chickens, and recycles the crap out of everything. She hates technology, and asks me how to use FB all the time. She loves her dishwasher and hates paper plates. LOL
I am feeling warm and fuzzy towards my parents right now, even though they drive me insane. The vote Democrat, got a reusable K cup when I ranted at them about the environment, always use real plates, and only have one refrigerator.
They do other things mentioned, though. NO, DAD, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT EPISODE OF NCIS!!! Stop playing Sudoku on your phone! At dinner!
My dad is obsessed with cooking food ahead of time and reheating it for fancy dinners. No one wants your previously cooked and frozen $100 beef tenderloin LEFTOVERS for Christmas dinner. They also have a 2 person home and almost exclusively shop at Costco. Their garage is identical to a Costco aisle. Paper plates for every meal. FoxNews on 24/7. Unless their is a football game to complain about kneeling.

I am loving my parents so much right now! They live in a smaller house, share a honda fit between them, use a coffee drip pot, never use disposables, don't watch much tv (although when they do, the volume is too high), are very hands on with my kids and are very involved with social justice issues. And they are boomers (born in 46 and 51).
