What? Is the storm that bad that far north? That's awful!
It was pretty shitty here earlier today. The roads were bad but most people were not on them so commute times were only about 1.5 times as long as usual. Of course today was the 1 weekday in over 4 months that I actually drove, because that is my luck
We were supposed to get 1 to 3 inches. We got 7. The 45 minute drive took 2 hours. Passed several stuck big rigs, abandoned cars, and several accidents.
My part of PA just...gave up. They didn't prep, they didn't plow, they didn't salt or cinder. It was a giant mess.
Also had to park at the bottom of a hill and walk a mile home, in the snow with my small child and SO. It’s normally 35 minutes.
I'm in NJ and it's horrible. My mom usually has 40 minute commute it took her 5 1/2 hours. MH has an hour commute took him 3 1/2. My school district has a delayed opening. I think alot of teachers will be out tomorrow.

Ugh that sucks. I tried to go to work today but got stuck two feet from my house and gave up. The county didnt treat roads for three more hours so i didn't make it to work until 1030.
Seems like eveyone was unprepared for this one. We had kids stranded because school buses never showed.

I'm in nj too! My school had no delay or early dismissal. Came out to inches of wet snow. Awful long drive home. Grrrrr

This is exactly what I was saying to my friend! It’s like they said, “oh well f&$@ it” after it started and just did the Homer Simpson into the hedge move
It took me an hour to drive the 3-4 miles home from DS's karate class. No idea why I took him. The snow had already started falling. I thought it was the fluffy stuff, not the sticky stuff.
We were supposed to pick up DH's car tonight. BOTH of his cars are in the shop. The snow prevented us from going back out tonight, so we'll have to figure out how to handle driving DS to school and getting DH to his car in the AM. I hope the roads are clear.

Shit! I’m sorry.
I’m outside DC. My commute is normally about 45 minutes, but it took 30 minutes today. I couldn’t believe it. The school closings and people staying home helped me out. I was in shock but not complaining!
I’m near Newark NJ. I unexpectedly WFH today and kept DD Home from daycare since MH accidentally took her car seat to work. Thank goodness because the roads are a mess. MH drove for an hour trying to get home and only got about a mile (usually takes 30-40mins total) so he gave up and is spending the night at my mother’s house near his work.
I normally have a 30-minute drive to work and I imagine if I’d gone in it would’ve taken me hours to get home.
DD’s daycare center has kids who are spending the night because their parents can’t get to them. The town FB groups said there are kids spending the night at the local schools as well. I’m glad they’re safe but that breaks my heart.
Ugh, that sucks. Sorry! DH works 3pm-1am. He left at 12:30 and was still a half hour late to work (3 hrs total). Last night I was thinking this area was crazy for pre-treating, but it was terrible! I’m not sure the pre treating did much and the actual plow trucks were non existant ( other than the one that flipped over on the interstate)

Yes! I’m in the Lehigh Valley and said the same thing to my H. Goes to show how important pretreating the roads is. Once it got bad, they couldn’t even start to catch up.

Someone on my FB feed posted that a family member left southern Westchester at 3:30 yesterday and they didn't get home (~1.5 hour drive normally) until 1:30 in the morning.
The speed with which the snow accumulated was insane! I left at 4:15 to get DD from daycare, and the snow was just starting to stick to the grass. By the time I drove the 8 miles to daycare, the ground was covered. By the time we got home, there was 2 inches on the ground. An hour later, there was 4 or 5. An hour later, there was 9. We had a foot when I went to bed last night and there has to be another 4 or 5 inches that fell overnight.
I am a teacher and was dismissed at 11:30, so I got home before the worst of it. My H left work at 3:30 (a 30-minute commute) and got home around 6:30. My sister’s car got stuck and she had to wait for 2 hours for a tow truck, and then they would only take her to the garage, not to her house 2 miles away because they were worried about driving on back roads, so my H went and picked her up and took her home. I saw posts from friends on FB about being stranded at truck stops and gas stations too.

I was shocked at how not-awful traffic was. I had to go home a different way than usual to swing by my parents' house to pick up the kids and 395 was slow, but I don't know that it was any slower than usual.
I'm north of NYC by about 40 minutes and it was taking commuters in my area 7-8 hours to get home. Even with the pre-treated roads in my area, the speed at which the snow fell coupled with the traffic made the plows getting on the roads near impossible. I'm off the Palisades Pkwy and they finally closed it at exit 11 so plows could get on. Some idiot after getting to the offramp decided that the traffic was annoying and tried turning the wrong way on the ramp to get back on the (closed) parkway making things even worse.

I live on the NY side of the Tappen Zee (Cuomo whatever)...cars parked along side of the road, just utter chaos. It was like an apocalypse.
I'm in NJ near Newark...It took DH 3 hours, my brother who goes to school in Newark took 4 hours to go 8 miles. They totally dropped the ball, no preparation. I read online over 550 accidents in NJ yesterday.

Jalapeñomel, ah okay. Here they knew it would snow but they didn't think it would stick and then it was supposed to be rain too, so they didn't salt because they were worried it would wash away.
OMG. I live in MN, so we're used to the snow and basically always prepared even when it's feet of snow instead of inches. I remember being annoyed as a kid that we got a grand total of TWO snow days from K-12th and my friend who moved to Philadelphia got a snow day every single time they got an inch of snow. I guess I see why! I'm sorry!
