"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
DS is in 5th grade, which is Elementary here. School starts at 8:40 and ends at 3:15, so 6hr and 35 min. Luckily the school is very close to my house so DS is only on the bus for about 15 minutes in the morning and less than 5 minutes in the afternoon.
DD is in 6th grade, which is Middle School here. School starts at 7:50 and ends at 2:30, 6hr and 40 min. The MS is much further away so DD spends about 45 min on the bus in both the morning and the afternoon. It sucks, because the school is less than 15 minutes away, but will all of the stops, it ends up being quite a long bus ride making for a much longer school day.
I don't have any kids in High School, but their hours are the same as the Middle School.

Generally 8:30 to 2:50, so 6 hours and 20 minutes. Wednesdays are early release every week, so they get out at 1:50 (5 hours and 20 minutes).
But they are tardy at 8:30. School doors open at 8am, and kids can go into their classrooms then (or get breakfast in the cafeteria). They are supposed to all be in their classrooms at 8:20 so that instruction can start right at 8:30.
All elementary school children are required to have a 20 minute recess every day, PLUS what they call "teacher-led PE." Kindergarteners get 2 recess periods, plus I think they also have teacher-led PE. What they do for teacher-led PE varies based on the teacher, but it's always something active. Sometimes it's basically a second recess, with more of a directed game than free play. Sometimes they do a video in the classroom -- like yoga or some sort of site that has kid songs with movements. That's where my kids learned the Baby Shark song -- even my 4th grader dances to Baby Shark with her classmates, lol.
