Between the impending shutdown and the stock market, I feel like I need to breathe into a paper bag.
I hope it's not too bad for the Fed employees and the rippling impact.
Trust that we will lay it on thick for my parents. Their vote did this (okay not really because their state went blue but they should still understand that elections have consequences to actual people they actually care about)

Two different people mentioned a possible shutdown in emails today. Normally at this point in time there is nothing being said. This makes me think it is more likely to happen.

Wait, if they are keeping security and such staff on during the shutdown, then why can't the badges just be deactivated and then reactivated in the security/IT system? Why do you have to physically hand it in? Just wondering since it seems really inefficient to have non-essential employees commute in while on planned vacation or furlough to give in just a badge.
No, being furloughed is like being laid off. They collect all the things and lock you out of the building.
DH says he's been told more info will be available Thursday. Awesome. He's hoping he can close up Friday, but lots of people have leave planned (some are already gone) so it's a shit show, for sure.
That must be by agency, my command just has us come in to sign the acknowledgement papers, but we don't have to turn in badges, computers, phones, etc. They do prefer that we leave electronics in the office unless we have upcoming travel that we'd need them for once the furlough ended, but it's not required.
While I don’t want a shutdown...part of me wishes if we’re going to have one then shut ALL that shit down.
Your SS and disability checks? Not during a shutdown...USPS and shipping...newp etc.
I feel like when these happen it doesn’t truly impact those who voted for Drump like my parent.
This is how I feel. If we shutdown the services that directly impact people's lives it would make a greater impact. If the shutdown on December 24th meant that people wouldn't get those last minute gifts you know darn well Congress wouldn't actually let it happen.

Same here. We're even encouraged to take our laptops home to check email but with the rules that we can't do any "real" work or spend more than 15 minutes a day on email.

The IRS has not been funded and if there is an extended shutdown, I would imagine people will get pissed when their refunds are delayed. Albeit, it will probably take some time for people to realize this, but still.
I'm not sure why the articles I've read haven't mentioned the IRS not being funded.

I think it’s because even if there is an “extended” shutdown it’s likely to be measured in weeks, not months, and the vast majority of people won’t he interfacing with the IRS until April. It’s hard for me to imagine a scenario, even worst case, where the shutdown lasts even close to that long.

NO, because this is not the bullshit that should be done. Shut downs happened under Obama as well and withholding disability checks for the disabled is pretty fucked up and will greatly affect millions of kids and those who didnt vote for him. It is tempting, I get it, but not how that should be handled.

My agency is funded, but someone asked about use/lose and shutdown and I didn’t have an answer.
I know we’re going to be scrambling now with the holiday and use/lose. I need to check mine, but I usually build in a day in case this happens.
From what i heard is if you bave use ir lose scheduled you get it back if we shut down. If not. You lose it.
Yes, generally if your leave is canceled due to something work related (shutdown, required to work) the leave is restored, including any use or lose, as long as it was previously approved leave.
We are funded ...but the agency that handles our paychecks is not. I don't think anyone really knows how it will effect us.
No one I work with has mentioned this aspect. I report to an executive, so I would expect she would have shared if she had info that our checks would be affected. The message about early close out did say that if not certified by 3pm today, employees may not get paid. I wonder if that's due to the potential shutdown.

No one told us why, but we had to certify our time 3 days early this week. I assume this is why.

We had to as well, and we are funded. It's because next week is the pay week and two days are off for the Christmas holiday. We do this every time there is a holiday the week of payday.

And the last time we were shutdown (or maybe very close? It's all running together) it was during a payday week too. We were paid that paycheck as expected, but the next one would have been delayed if it went that long.

I think you are correct. I don’t actually think we missed a paycheck?

Washington Post is reporting Congress left for the night so a shutdown will happen at midnight. This is insanity given the bill that passed the Senate unanimously on Wednesday to keep it open until February.
I'm sorry for all in here who are impacted by this.
