As soon as I saw this post bumped I was looking for a royal baby announcement so all I did was see "Duchess" in that letter and assume Meghan had a baby girl. Not that baby girl would even have the title of Duchess so I'm being extra ridiculous.
What do the sashes actually mean? Is this something that is earned through good works or does this just mean the queen likes you! Is it an actual honor or just a popularity contest?
Personal award given by the Queen for service to the Crown. As bcv513 said the Queen is very stingy with them. Harry only got one a couple years ago. It took a long time for the Queen’s own children to get such honors. Never mind in-laws.
I found this online, but this is the full list of family members who have been given the Order:
The Duke of Kent (1960) Princess Alexandra (1960) The Princess Royal (1974; appointed Grand Master in 2007) The Duke of Gloucester (1974) The Duchess of Kent (1977) The Duchess of Gloucester (1989) Prince Michael of Kent (2003) The Countess of Wessex (2010) The Duke of York (2011) The Earl of Wessex (2011) The Duchess of Cornwall (2012) The Duchess of Cambridge (2019)
I'm laughing that Sophie got one a year before her husband, the son of the Queen.

hmmm...but that doesn't include William or Harry. Someone above said he got one in 2015. Does William have one? Is this the pin that's made of ivory that we thought W&H declined?
I keep thinking back to when Bill Clinton cheated on Hillary Clinton and they still had to appear in public together. She didn’t make eye contact with him and she had a tight, plastered on smile/grimace almost constantly. There was no body contact and she clearly did not want to be near him. Compare that to the Easter pictures of Will and Kate where they are turned in to each other and Kate is smiling and has a warm look in her eyes when she is looking at her husband. There is no way she believes he cheated on her.
I mean really for all we know wills and Kate have had wild swinger weekends with these folks and Kate gave will the thumbs up to get some off the clock action when she was puking every 6 seconds while pregnant. And now it's only a problem because part if the truth leaked.
Im going to keep pushing this theory. Seems just as plausible as anything else really. Fight me. 😂
So Googling told me that Harry became a Knight Commander of the RV Order in 2015. I don't see one for William but am I correct that Charles isn't on that list too? Maybe the heirs don't get it since they'll (presumably) lead the order some day.

I'm also laughing that the Duchess of Kent and Duchess of Gloucester have them, but not Princess Michael of Kent, because she's a see-you-next-tuesday.
ETA: But the Queen loves Sophie! And it still took her being married for... 11 years?... to get it.

Harry was given the title of Knight Commander. That’s the second tier (there are 5 tiers later). The top tier is much more exclusive. I imagine Harry will probably be upgraded during his father’s reign. My understanding is that Prince Charles and Prince William (and eventually Prince George) aren’t given the cross because one day they’ll be the leader of the group.
Prince Philip didn’t get his until 2017, oddly enough. But damn, the list of awards with fancy titles attached that he’s been given is huge.

William has the Order of the Garter, which is the highest order in Britain. He was #1000 on the historical list.
Harry (and now Kate) has the Royal Victorian Order, which is a lower order but still important. I would bet he’ll get the Garter once Charles is king.
Edward, Earl of Wessex got the Garter a few years before he got the RVO. Idk why the Queen would give him a higher Order before a lower one, instead of “upgrading.”
The yellow pin/badge with the Queen’s portrait traditionally made of ivory is the Royal Family Order, given to women (only women) in the royal family. Kate’s is on glass because William is against ivory. Diana had this but Fergie did not.

The Order of the Garter only allows for 24 members. So she probably gave that to him when then was an opening. At this point, they have to wait for someone to die before someone else can get one.
I would bet that Harry will be upgraded to the top tier of the Knights before he gets inducted into the Order of the Garter.

Royal family members don’t count toward the 24 limit.

Whoops. Missed that part. Misread and thought only foreign monarchs didn't count.
Also, when I was checking the member list, I saw that at least two new members are being invested in June. Cool stuff.
Apparent people are thinking Meghan is having a boy because they have "pages" on the official royal website for Prince Alexander, Prince Arthur and Prince James that are just not live yet. I feel like this happened before when Kate was pregnant and there's a totally reasonable explanation for it. I also don't think they'll go with SUCH traditional and popular (in Britain) names.

The baby won’t even be a Prince(ss) under the Queen’s reign anyway ... probably placeholder pages.
Sweden ran into a Similar problem with Princess Estelle where they accidentally pushed a page live with the wrong placeholder name.
The Duke of Sussex will visit The Netherlands on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th May 2019, Buckingham Palace says. While there he will undertake an official engagement in Amsterdam before going to The Hague to launch the one year countdown to the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.
...
I wonder if the baby is already here. Either that or Meghan really tried to throw people off with an early due date.
ETA:
I don’t really GAF how they decide to do this, FWIW, but I wonder if they’re amused at the media and weird admirers losing their minds over the mystery of it all.

She announced October 15 which was already 6.5 months ago. I'm starting to think this baby has already been born.
ETA: QEII apparently visited their home which is a hint that the baby is already here because that's just not something she does

I agree, I think the baby has already been born. It doesn't seem likely to me that Harry would go on a trip with a brand new baby at home or leave if the baby hasn't been born yet. I am guessing the baby was born before Easter. Meghan's mom was already in town & they have recently had visits from the QEII, William & Kate at Frogmore. They already announced that they would be taking time as a family before announcing the birth so it's not a far stretch to assume it's already happened.
We assumed they would take, like, 3 days though. William and Kate took an hour or two alone before announcing George's birth (although that was different, and the media coverage was insane).
When she announced her pregnancy, it was assumed she was due late March/early April because she was starting to show and likely at least 12 weeks. No freaking way is she giving birth the second or third week of May. I think Kate had to announce her pregnancy with Charlotte in September and Charlotte was born May 2.

When was the last time Meghan was seen in public?
Meghan said a few times she was due at the end of April, beginning of May. She was last seen in public in March. I don't get the connection you are trying to make about when Kate announced/had Charlotte though?
But I do agree that I think the baby has already been born.

Kate announced in September at 6ish weeks and had Charlotte May 2. Meghan announced about 5 weeks after Kate, and we assumed she was at 12+ weeks, which would put her baby due at least a week or two before Charlotte.
If you assume she was exactly 12 weeks on October 15 when she announced, she would have been 40 weeks on April 22, which matches up with 1) Easter (which was April 21) and 2) when Doria arrived. Which doesn't mean she's not still pregnant, but she'd be overdue at this point.
If she said end of April/beginning of May, then she was probably due in the last week or so of April, and assumed she'd go past 40 weeks, as most first time moms do.
Stalking the Sussex IG account it looks like Harry went to an event on April 11, and then not until the 25th or so (not that it's necessarily all on IG). My guess is baby came the week of the 14th.

Wow, that is a lot of pregnancy math.
I don't think it was assumed at all that she was 12 weeks when she announced, I think the assumption is she was forced to announce early bc they were going on their tour and there would be some things she wouldn't be able to eat/drink/participate in.
