As a friend wrote on FB today "Let the record show that from now on when I say, 'Lord, give me the confidence of a mediocre white man' the one I am specifically referring to is Seth Moulton."
This guy has been doing nothing his whole life except checking boxes to be President one day. He's an empty suit, and there are already at least a handful in this race already, so take a seat, Chachi.

I just don't understand any of these generic reps entering the race, Ryan, Moulton, Swalwell. Swalwell is pushing the gun control thing so that kind of differentiates him from the pack. At this point, it feels late to be coming in. I don't see any of the three picking up momentum. Remember how Moulton failed spectacularly at trying to replace Pelosi? I hope that he gets dragged in the debates (if he qualifies) over it.
And on reddit, someone posted a link that Pete's website has gotten more traffic than bernies lately so I am here for all of it.

I would love it if Moulton and Ryan didn't qualify for the debates. I feel somewhat that way about Swalwell, too, but will let him do the debates if it helps keep gun control at the forefront.
I need to absorb the details a bit more but I am loving this. She is going all out.
I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see a candidate's proposed policy plan laid all out there like this -- what it'll do, who it will affect, where the funding will come from, how it will benefit Americans, etc. I love it.
Short thread with a few interesting points about Warren’s college plan. It’s far more thoughtful than just “free college.”
At this point, my only real concern with Warren is that I haven’t seen evidence that there’s a lot of people of color behind her. And we need black voters energized like hell because this election will be horrible for vote suppression and racist shit from Trump. With that backdrop, it’s too much to ask of black voters to turn out for someone they are lukewarm about.
So these kinds of proposals are interesting and I will be watching to see how they resonate. Oh and I read on Twitter that she’s speaking to an audience of women of color later this week in Houston so I will be interested in seeing how that goes.
I like Warren's plan for free higher ed and wiping out student loan debt. However, I find it either tone deaf or disingenuous (I cannot decide which) to state:
We can do that by recognizing that a public college education is like a public K-12 education — a basic public good that should be available to everyone with free tuition and zero debt at graduation.
Our public schools for K-12 students are free for everyone. That’s because we understand that a high school-level education is a basic need for our society and our economy — and it should be available to all.
Like K-12 education, college is a basic need that should be available for free to everyone who wants to go.
Tell the kids that go to k-12 in crumbling buildings and no books that they've been given the opportunity of a free education that fulfills their basic needs.

Moulton says he sees the field as "wide open", depsite being the NINETEENTH candidate to declare.

The forum that she'll be participating in will be hosted by She the People. They will be live streaming the event on FB.

Moulton also sees the field as needing a “fresh face” of non-geriatric white guy with military experience because there is most definitely not any other candidate in the so very wide open race already who checks those boxes and more.

And I especially love all the people yelling about how much taxpayer money will fund this and we can be like, "Uh, says it right there, read the damn proposal."
I'm already annoyed by all the people who are like "What do I get if I already paid off my loans???" I mean, we're still knee-deep in our loans so I can definitively answer that you get the financial flexibility of peace of mind of no longer having SL debt. I will legit cry celebratory tears when we're done paying them off. We may end up falling within the 5% that won't get any debt cancelled if she's elected but this would be so good for our economy and for our country. The collective SL burden in this country is totally unsustainable.

Politico has a piece out about interest in Warren from black activists, especially black women.

What I really like is that she proposed subsidized childcare/truly universal early childhood education well before she proposed free college. She IS thinking about foundations and improving education as a whole, not JUST "free college" which mostly appeals to elites (the white dudes following Bernie, especially).
Biden is announcing this week in Charlottesville. Just thought I’d add some eye roll fodder to the thread.
I was really hoping he had come to his senses but nope.
It’s all just so enraging.
I think these white men just do not get how pissed the rest of the Dem base is right now. They are all running on this feel good build bridges with white working class and restore bipartisanship platform that maybe speaks to Joe the Plumber but it makes me want to catapult them into the rising oceans.
After what this administration has done, it’s completely offensive that so many white men are out there telling the public day after day that the way forward is to listen and learn from the angry, gun toting morons brainwashed by Fox News. By normalizing discourse with monsters, these men’s campaigns are priming the public to see people like Harris or Warren as irrational radicals if we are lucky enough to have them make it to the general.
This guy works for his campaign.I repeat: a paid employee of the Sanders campaign.
Look at this shit. Warren's proposal is leaps and bounds more sophisticated, sweeping, and thoughtful than whatever Bernie scribbled out in crayon in 2016. I can't with these fucking men.

Does anyone on this board want to convince me that providing free college is a more worthy (or beneficial? whatever...adjective you like) goal than early childhood education/daycare?
Also, the announcement of yet another male D candidate reminded me of an oft-quoted sarcastic line from my DH in his fraternity years: "you know what this party needs? more dudes..."

I'll be honest, I do not care that much about free college generally. It's fine, but as you say, I think there are other issues that are more urgent.
That said, her proposal isn't just free college. It's a holistic overhaul of our higher ed system. There's investments in higher ed, a special fund for HBCUs, tribal colleges, etc, changes to student aid assistance to help pay for living expenses, new programs to reward schools who have high rates of graduation, other efforts to improve minority enrollment and completion rates, etc. Plus the loan forgiveness.
I think reasonable minds can disagree on the merits of completely free public higher ed and the loan forgiveness proposal, but the rest of it seems to have lots of really great stuff. And since she's not leading with it, but it's just one proposal out of 8 zillion, I don't think it's a top priority.
I also think it's smart politics. She can use it to drive primary support and enthusiasm from younger voters, and it's controversial enough that I bet we start seeing journalists asking other candidates to comment on it, putting them in a tough spot.

All of the above. And also, she proposed universal childcare before she rolled this college proposal out, which I think is a nod to the order of priority.
