I feel like I always have the most random questions.
If you live in a city and don’t drive, do you bring the car seat to the hospital when in labour or do you bring it later (I.e my H would have to leave and go home to get it then come back)? I think everyone I know has driven to a hospital so this hasn’t come up but I have no clue.
My friend walked to the hospital since it is 6 blocks to her house. While she was waiting on her discharge paperwork her husband went home and got the stroller and carseat since they couldn’t very well keep it in their room. She was in the hospital for three days and I think he was in and out a couple of times to check on their pets, etc.
1. How far along are you this week? 20+6 today! Holy cow.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I'm annoyed with DH. It's like he avoids talking about this pregnancy all together. I don't know why he's so stressed about it. I think he's excited, but he's also a giant ball of anxiety and always has been. I'm tired of waiting for him to look at things, so I'm going to go ahead and order the furniture for DS's big boy room. I want it set up ASAP so he can explore it and hopefully get used to it (and WANT to be in there!) so it's not like "HEY DS here's a new person that requires a ton of my attention, also get out of your room." It will be highly decorated in tractors to ease the blow. He's OBSESSED with tractors right now. Likely a phase that will pass the second I finish his room, with my luck. But also this applies to talking about names. Fine, I'll get the house ready for and name this kid myself. YOUR LOSS. We need to have a CTJ talk tonight about how he seems to want me to do all of the Stay at Home Mom stuff (and candidly, too much of it - pull your weight) but refuses to talk to me about an end date for work. I'm getting pretty annoyed with it all.
I know I'm not due til October 2. But DS was two weeks early. And there's A LOT to do and I have very little free time. It would be nice to have some support.
3. Questions for the group? Anyone have Restoration Hardware baby furniture? Yes, I know it's $$$ but quite frankly I like it, so... yeah. It's cheaper than the Amish-made stuff we previously looked at. I just to make sure the quality matches the price.
4. How is your partner handling your pregnancy? Is he/she helpful? excited? detached? Oh. I already wrote about this under my vents. I should have read all of the questions before answering.
KellyEasterbrook, we had visitors immediately, but they stayed in a hotel. And quite honestly, I did my own damn thing. Needed to go upstairs and rest and wanted the baby next to me? Deal with it. Anyone uncomfortable with me pulling boobs out to nurse? Deal with it. Once my ILs came to visit and I spent the first three hours of their visit napping with the baby upstairs. We both needed sleep. Not sorry. Once I had to take him and go upstairs and hold him and cry because I was hormone crashing and it was really starting to freak me out that everyone else was holding him too much when I wanted him. Not sorry again. I highly recommend this approach.
I'm sure we'll have visitors pretty quickly this time, but not as quickly. My MIL is a teacher so DS being born in the summer meant she could come right away.
Visitors that stay over? Honestly, I would not have been ok with that for a while.

QFT
Visitors in the first month need to expect mom will do what she NEEDS/WANTS for herself and baby. They should be there to help not just hold a baby.
knx9211 Can you tell your H “if you don’t make time to talk to me about x by y date than I am making the decision”? MH doesn’t like it when I do that but somethings it really is the only way to get his input. And sometimes (like with nursery furniture) he doesn’t get back to me and I just say too bad 🤷🏻♀️
RE: RHB furniture - I’ve heard it’s not bad quality but not worth the price.

I have done that on other things and to my shock he actually lets the deadline come and I just do it. Looks like that's what I'll have to do this time, too. I like getting things ready like his room, etc. but it would be nice to feel like he gave a shit.
knx9211 you know well H and I did with the name thing. So annoying! In the end it worked out, but clearly a photo finish.
Unrelated, but baby's nursery is a farm theme and has some tractors. Total PITA to find nice, affordable tractor decorations.
YES. I ordered some really cute prints on Etsy which of course will cost me $1,000,000 to frame. Did you find any nice tractor/farm bedding? I don't even need the quilt, etc. I just want some cute crib sheets!

I'm super picky about crib sheets as it turns out. I splurged on some from Carousel, but they are just plaid. All of the tractor/animal bedding I found was fug. I ended up with a vinyl tractor name sticker for above the crib, and a $30 die cast john deere to sit on a shelf.

This makes sense! If all goes well, I should only be there for a few hours (2-4) so it might suck to have him leave so soon after birth but may be necessary.

For that short amount of time I would keep it handy. Have you had a hospital tour? This is also something you could ask your OB or midwife since they are used to the shorter post-natal stay time. I’m sure they’ve seen people in the same situation before.

Ok I thought of a question...when did you first feel movement and what exactly does it feel like/where did you feel it? I’m trying to decipher if I felt something a little bit ago or not. For reference I’m almost 17w, I was told at my NT scan I have an anterior placenta and I’m also more of a plus size gal.

I think my earliest movements felt like a kernel in a popcorn air popper flicking against my insides as it popped. There were also some little flutters around the same time but I felt less sure about those vs., e.g. gas or something.
I had an anterior placenta as a FTM, but not as a STM. You're in the neighborhood of about how far along I was both times, maybe more like 18-19 the first time.

Yeah I’ll ask at my next appt but this randomly popped into my head. No tour yet but scheduled for June for all of them. I’ll decide once in labour where I want to go (hospital or birthing center and which one).

It was around 15-16 weeks. Anterior placenta too. Felt like a weird flutter. Or I like what Susie said. Popcorn.

With my first I started questioning movement around 14 weeks. Occasionally it was a pop feeling, but really it was more of a tightening in a certain spot and if I pushed or tapped that spot, I noticed a bit later it was in another spot. I felt definitive taps around 16 weeks and DH clearly felt a kick right at 18 wks. With all that said, 1) DD was a damn soccer player, my time frame is a bit early for FTMs, 2) I’m on more of the petite side, 3) No anterior placenta. I’m 11+6 with kid 2 and while my mind has played tricks on me in the last week, nothing yet. I know it can come earlier with baby #2, but not this early, i don’t think.

17 weeks for my last pregnancy. It felt like gad bubble or little flutters. No anterior placenta.
This time I feel like I've felt a few flutters, but I've also been gassy. Lol the flutters arent consistent so I cant say for sure if I've felt baby yet. I'm almost 15 weeks. No clue where my placenta is yet this time.
1. How far along are you this week? 37+1 today. Less than 2 weeks to go.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I'm so done. Baby is measuring big and has a bit of extra fluid so I'm feeling massive and uncomfortable. Ideally he still stays put until RCS day though.
Coordinating care for DD while I'm in the hospital is turning into drama that I had wanted to avoid.
3. Questions for the group? ~
4. How is your partner handling your pregnancy? Is he/she helpful? excited? detached? I think we're both a combination of excited and detached. I got pregnant a lot quicker than we thought I would and I don't think either of us were really prepared, especially not him. I think now that DS is almost here it's becoming more real for him, for better or worse. He's always helpful, so that hasn't changed.
3. Questions for the group? Now that it’s been a little bit since the RnP recall, has anyone decided on what baby will sleep in overnight at the beginning if not the crib? My kids both had reflux and slept in the RnP, so I’m not sure what we’ll do this time.
I got a Halo bassinet. To be honest, I still plan to use the RNP as a baby containment device but won't let her sleep in it overnight like I did (for months...) with DS.
Same. Halo Bassinest again for sleep, will likely still use RNP as a place to put baby down.
3. Questions for the group? Any suggestions for how to stay asleep/get to sleep/fall back asleep after waking up to pee? I am literally getting like 2 hours of sleep a night between being so uncomfortable and then insomnia after waking up to pee. Please help!
Something that usually works for me is something I learned in prenatal yoga--counting my breaths to myself--so for example I'll inhale for the count of 2, then exhale to the count of 4. You can't really think of anything else, so it helps.
1. How far along are you this week? 32w today! (because (I'm a couple days late on this)
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Heartburn is getting a little more frequent, ugh. Otherwise we're plugging along!
3. Questions for the group? Not that I can think of.
4. How is your partner handling your pregnancy? Is he/she helpful? excited? detached? He is incredibly excited and has been pretty much since we got the positive pg test. Unfortunately he's also been slightly in denial about all the things we need to get done and NOW he's starting to freak out a bit. His anxiety about this tends to kick up when things are hitting the fan at work, so I can usually head it off by sitting him down and helping him talk through whatever the work issue is. Then he remembers what while we have a max of 8 weeks left, that is still time to do what needs to be done.

So we didn’t walk to the hospital (we chose to deliver at a hospital 80 km away) but we didn’t have a car back then so took a taxi both ways. Obviously there was no going back home to get things. That meant we had to bring the car seat and the base with us. It wasn’t ideal but it worked to put it in a corner of the delivery room and then in the post partum room.

With DS I started feeling flutters (I want to say it felt like little butterfly kisses on the inside) around 18 weeks. This time I have an anterior placenta and it definitely made a difference in regards to movements. I didn’t feel anything at all until 19w6d so about 2 weeks later. And it took me several more weeks to feel something more consistently. I’m now finally at 26 weeks feeling movements every day
