If your child ha RSV, what were the symptoms before they got diagnosed?
With both of my girls it started out as a cold but it was extremely fast breathing that sent us to the ED. I don’t know how old your LO is but you also want to be cognizant of input and output. It can be hard for them to breathe and nurse/bottle feed while sick with RSV and then they can easily become dehydrated.

Thank you. He’s peeing well, but I’m keeping an eye on everything. How many days was it before they had difficulty breathing?

With both girls they were seen at the pedi one day and detoriated the next day - I bought DD2 back and we were sent to the ED in an ambulance. With DD1 I was a first time mom and she was 19 days old and in hindsight I probably waited too long but we went to the ED that night. I forgot to mention that you also want to check for refractions/work of breathing. If you’re concerned I would really recommend calling your on call pedi. That’s what they are there for - to give advice.
How often are you all feeding/nursing the 6m crowd?
On a weekday:
7:30am - nurse at home
10am 4 oz. bottle
12pm 4 oz. bottle
12:30pm puree lunch
2pm 4 oz. bottle
4:30pm 4 oz. bottle
6:30pm puree dinner
7:00pm nurse
Bottle times are rough approximations, but he hits 4x4 oz. most days. When he's with me, he nurses more often, but less oz. I pump around 12 oz. per workday + 4 oz. at my bedtime to make his 16 oz. So I assume when he nurses all day he gets closer to 12 oz.
Puree meals are 2-4 oz. of puree, mixed with nut butter, ground nut, oatmeal, and/or whole milk greek yogurt. He has slipped to 11th% for weight, so we're trying to keep everything fairly nutrient dense.
So are you assuming he’s getting ~24 oz a day? Mine quit nursing and I’m 50/50 pump and formula, but now that I can see the amounts it’s causing me much anxiety. He slipped to the 8th for weight during his nursing strike. He has reflux and will not eat if he’s not hungry. There is no “topping off” this kid. He’s not doing significant purées yet (4.5 months) and is eating 24 on a low day and 30 on a great day.

I called and she said what to look for. Thank you for your response. I’m more concerned of what to look for since it starts out as a cold. I got it too and my head is stuffy and definitely hurts. My poor baby, this stuff sucks.
DS is 9 months tomorrow. He has been eating purées for about 3 months now and has done ok with them. We have been trying to feed him more finger and textured foods but he has a total aversion. Anything with any type of texture other than completely smooth, he gags himself until he throws up. Any tips? Do I just keep at it slowly or just let him figure it out in his own time?
Also, anyone have the Graco Extend 2 Fit convertible car seat? We will be transitioning him soon and I’m looking for recs. I had a Nextfit with DD but I need two seats and really don’t want to spend $300 a piece.

I know it’s very nerve wracking. I hope my response didn’t come off as being snippy - I am happy to share our experiences if they help others - but I also am not a medical professional and I know our on call pediatrician has been invaluable the few times I had to call.
If your child ha RSV, what were the symptoms before they got diagnosed?
It was like a really bad cold. For E1, retractions were what made me think it was more than a cold, and was the symptom that made me bring him to urgent care and get the diagnosis. He was 16 months at the time.

E1 HATED anything with more texture than a smooth puree, except puffs and mum-mums. He would gag until he puked. I continued to offer him table food though, a couple times a week. Then when he was 10 months old, it's like a switch flipped and he no longer had the super sensitive gag reflex. He chowed down on table food after that. I will say that the baby food with chunks in it were difficult... it's like baby doesn't know whether to chew or swallow.

I think probably about that. He probably gets >4 oz. at the 7:30am feed, I'm less sure about the 7pm feed. Maybe 24-26 for the day? Less than that on days he nurses all day, because my 11pm pump just goes into stash on those days.
I'm not really worried about his slip on the weight chart because my DD did the same thing at the same age. She dropped below 3rd % at one point. But nothing was medically wrong, she was just a long and lean kid. She still is, at 4 she's now 70th% for height and 27th % for weight, which is the highest it's been since she was like 4 months old. Just like with her, we're just doing whatever we can to squeeze in extra fat and protein for DS, to make sure it doesn't become a significant problem. We've introduced peanut butter, almond butter, and ground up cashews, pecans, and walnuts, and full fat greek yogurt. We tried avocado, but he didn't like it, mostly the chunks. We can try again with it smoother. Soon we'll be able do Trader Joe's mixed nut butter to hit exposure to a bunch of nuts all in one, easy form. Fat, protein, and allergen exposure, check check and check.

My DD gobbled up table food from early on so this is new for me. Selfishly, I think I want him to get over this gagging mostly because of the inconvenience of purées. I’d love to be able to just throw whatever we are eating on his tray and let him figure out what he likes. I know he’ll get it eventually.

E2 is basically like your DD. He has no patience for purees and loves table food. I find it less convenient than purees and would prefer that he ate them more. But I'm not much of a cook, so...

Not at all, I appreciate the input. I find people’s experiences to be helpful because there’s always something to learn that the general info won’t cover.

My ds has definitely been taking less milk since we started purees. He screams when he sees us eating and wants a piece of everything. I’ve given him stuff I was eating and sometimes he liked it, sometimes gums it and spits it out. I don’t know how to keep him interested in milk, it feels like he only wants it when he’s tired and even then he doesn’t drink more than 3 oz. I add some milk into his purées, but that’s not enough.

My daughter gagged until she puked as well. At about 10 months we started getting the purées with the bits in them. We would give her a single bit with purée at a time. We very very slowly worked up to regular spoonfuls of the bits. She didn’t start eating real food until just before her 1st bday. She’s always been a bit behind with chewing and eating coordination, but she’s fine.

How old were your babies when you transitioned them to their own room/crib? DS is 2 months old today, I go back to work in a month and I’ve been thinking about having him in his room by then. But then I worry it’s too soon. How do you know when they’re ready??

We put both girls in their own crib in a separate room as soon as we got home from the hospital, so 3 days old each time. I couldn’t sleep with them in my room. So I can’t comment on the transition, but they will adjust and be fine at any age you choose.

I think it's more about when YOU are ready. DS1 was 8 weeks. DS2 was 4 weeks. No regrets. We all slept better.

I moved DS when I realized that he only wasn’t sleeping through the night because we were there. About 9 weeks.
DD will be 11 weeks Thursday and she’s still in our room. She’s still up 1-2 times and I’m just too lazy to go into the other room. Plus I don’t want her waking her brother up.

When they needed sleep training. 6 months for E1, 7 months for E2. And I've been sleeping in E2's room the past 2 months. I'm just too lazy to go to a different room. I realized the past couple weeks that I've been waking him up, so I'm back in my own room with like 3 different baby monitors (my hearing has deteriorated since E1 was a baby). He's STTN every night since Friday.

Ditto icedcoffee it's more about when you are ready. L started sleeping in his crib probably around 6ish weeks? I also thought I would have him in our room until 6 months, but it wasnt long after H went back to work (3 weeks) that we wanted him in his own room. It was a combination of L being a loud sleeper and not wanting to wake him up when H gets up at 5 to get ready for work.

Totally agree with previous comments that it‘s more about when you’re ready. DD is still in our room at 6.5 months and it’ll probably be awhile before we move her. However, my anxiety level concerning SIDS is unnaturally/needlessly high and she’s a good sleeper at night (I hate to even write that out. Now she’ll be up all night 🤦♀️). If she was waking us up a lot during the night, I’d be tempted to get her in her own room.

Agree on the ready. L is in our room still at 15 weeks. I keep saying I’ll move him and haven’t yet because I’m not ready. We are all sleeping well so I haven’t been motivated yet. His noises greatly reduced around 10 weeks and I got used to it. Plus I don’t get out of bed now to feed during his 1 wake up and I like it. I don’t want him away as yet, even if we would share a wall and it’s like 10 steps. I keep saying I’ll move him when we go back home from vacation but who knows. He would be 4 months then, which was my goal.
Ugh. DS is still getting up once a night. Last night was twice though and I'm so tired. He's 4 months so I really wanted to sleep train him, but he had his 4 month pedi visit yesterday and his weight is dropping on the curve a bit (20% down to 7%) so now I don't feel comfortable sleep training. :::sobs:::
I was going to wait until 5 months to introduce solids, but now I'm wondering if I should do it now (pedi gave me the green light).
I really shouldn't complain because he literally wakes up, I feed him for 10 minutes and he's back asleep, but I need solid sleep! And I'm a big believer in sleep training, but obviously not if my kid is losing weight.
I need to re-sleep train DD. She was up 5x last night. FIVE. I'm dying today. I should have let her CIO but she was screaming so loudly I thought something was wrong, and DS has been sleeping like shit lately too and I was trying to stop her from waking him too. Ugh.

He has STTN before so I know he CAN.
This totally sounds like 4 month sleep regression, no? I bet your DS will be back to STTN within a few weeks. If not, maybe you'll be able to sleep train at 5 months. Hang in there!
Maybe. It's been going on for a few weeks now (since I went back to work at 3 months). I will definitely sleep train at 5 months once we introduce solids if he's not STTN by then.
I feel like I'm feeding him as much as he'll eat now, but his weight still went down. Could just be that he grew in length faster than weight the past few weeks though.
