scm1011 your poor babe...I hope she's better quickly. That contraption looks awful
We had a few nights of STTN last week. Then he picked up another cold from daycare and was up about 6 times Wednesday night. He was only up once last night. I keep getting sick when he's sick from using the Nose Frieda, I'm on my 2nd cold/sore throat in a month and I can't deal anymore with a FT job, baby and constantly being sick. Any rec's for an alternative? I feel like the old school bulb ones don't work nearly as well.
I am kind of stressed. DS is 9 months and still under 17 pounds, 5% which is a lower % than last time. He has been pretty much sick all of dec and Jan, so had periods where he didn’t eat that well. He eats purées, I add chicken or beef to them and some BM. He likes yogurt and sometimes pb. I don’t know what to do to get him to gain. He never drank more than 4 oz of milk at a time. I see kids in daycare who have 4 8-9 oz bottles of bm plus food. He is very active, non stop. The dr said he is not worried. I just want to make sure he has enough for proper development. Sorry for the brain dump, this has been a cause of stress for me for all these months.
My little guy is a bit younger, but I totally feel you on the stress of weight gain. L was 7% at 2 months and was only 3% at 4 months. He's gaining weight, but we've also been dealing with colds off and on since Christmas and I think he may be getting another one
It sounds like your little guy is still eating well, so try not to worry too much, especially if the dr isn't concerned and he is still gaining weight. But I totally understand being worried. I can't wait until we're able to start giving L food to help with calories. We add formula here and there since I can't always keep up with BM, but oh my goodness the gas that formula creates is outrageous. Even his teachers commented on it the other day because it was so bad/loud.
I feel this too!! At 2 months L was at 1% and labeled "failure to thrive" because he's a slow gainer. We switched to formula soon after (my mental health was suffering from constantly worrying about his weight and my BM) and at his 3 month weight check he was up to 5%. We have his 4 month appt in a week and I'm anxious to see where he's at. I hate the feeling of constantly worrying about their weight! Good luck to your LO's and hugs to the mamas!

My DS is 8m, and he's on the small side too. He will probably be <17 lb. next month when he is 9m. This particular week I'm feeling a little concern because he's teething and a hot mess and eating/nursing less than usual, but overall, I keep telling myself. He will eat, or cry to eat/nurse, if he is hungry. I have to trust that. This is not my first rodeo with this, DD was also a low weight baby, she fell off the WHO weight chart for BF babies (and fell off even earlier and for longer off the CDC chart, which our pedi uses for FF babies). I stressed about it a lot with her, but this time it's a little easier for me to remember, I'm offering him everything he needs, and he is not going to starve while food is being offered.
He eats purees, and hates anything with chunks. So egg and avocado are no dice, but I mix all kinds of nut butters into his food. Mostly peanut butter and Trader Joe's mixed nut butter, because I get nutrition and exposure to the allergens in one. Full fat greek yogurt. Whole milk ricotta. Sometimes mashed up hard boiled egg yolk, or nuts ground up in a mortar & pestle. I never ever give fruit/veggies without mixing in fat and protein.
He drinks 4x4oz bottles of BM at daycare, and his teacher told me this AM that they have to really work at the last oz. on every bottle. I think DD may have gone up to 4x5 oz bottles eventually as a max, but I don't think she ever went bigger than that. So 4x8 oz. or 4x9 oz. is unfathomable to me.
Somebody's baby has to occupy the lower percentiles. I have achieved a certain level of comfort with it being mine. DD, now 4, just has the body type where she has a 4T height and a 2T waist. She has reached the 20th percentile level for weight for her age, which is a major gain. That's a healthy body for her, and DS will find his too. I'm sure yours will too.

Susie and ladies, thank you. My older son was on the lower end (height and weight) but not like this. I go through periods of thinking if he is hungry he will eat or scream for food, but I was a terrible eater as a kid and was never hungry, maybe he isn’t that hungry? He has been drinking only 3 bottles at daycare and a lot of the time he’s left 1-2 oz and they can’t get him to finish. He nurses with gusto for a little bit and then he’s done, he definitely doesn’t want to nurse for long and that was since birth. I have to pick up that mixed nut butter. We have both been sick so much that I haven’t had a chance to really stroll around the store. I have been toying with making him muffins, but I don’t want him to just eat empty carbs. He is interested in food, but he won’t eat it if he doesn’t like it ( doesn’t like eggs, scrambled or boiled, doesn’t like avocado, I sneak it with with other things, but it’s not a lot. It’s so hard not to stress about it when you see so many daycare kids who are a lot bigger. He doesn’t even look small to me, but next to those kids he is. Thank you so much for the commiseration. It really is helpful to hear similar stories from others. ❤️ To everyone.

My baby finally has some rolls on him and I recently realized he had some grossness going on under his neck roll :/ I've been wiping it each day but it seems to stay red. Is that due to moisture? Or friction? Should I put something on it?

My 2 week old Dd is chunky and has the same thing. I think it’s from milk collecting under her chins. I threw some aquaphor on it. 🤷🏼♀️

If it feels raised or rashy/spotty at all, it might be yeast rash. My dude was rocking a red lion’s mane on his neck and chest from drool and hidden formula/food.
@goodygumdrop looks like you joined us for the 9m sleep regression! It has a much bigger range of when it actually occurs, but both of mine started at 7m.
Thanks hamster, it is good to not be guessing what is going on. How long will it last though? Before this he already wasn't getting the recommended daily amount of sleep for his age so this has us all a lot worse for wear. I think I have come to terms with the fact that he may just not need as much sleep as other babies since no matter what time we put him to bed he always wakes up at 5:25am.

Sorry, it was a solid 6 weeks for my first but he STTN at the end of it. Too soon to tell with D. We are at 2-3 weeks with D. He has had some average nights, but I think it is far from over.
Thanks all! We saw the dermatologist on Thursday so hopefully have a plan in place for that. I have hay fever so the eczema makes sense. We got so many new prescriptions for him. I hope it works.
Next step is the paediatrician on Wednesday. I am hoping he will do a blood test and confirm nothing is actually wrong with L. I don’t think there is but good to rule things out. Still don’t know why he’s not growing. 😞
I really hope it’s not allergies But he has no other digestive symptoms. So idk.
Gonna start trialing peanut butter today and I’m terrified. Food makes me hyperventilate because I’m scared of reactions.
Butttt in better news! He has been sleeping soooo well. I’ve been waking him up between 4:30-5:30 for a feed at night otherwise he would sleep through. I’m not ready to night wean him though. He needs those calories.

I have gone dairy free for L in hopes that it’ll help clear up the eczema and help him gain weight. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 It works! The paeditrician recommended it. We will do blood tests on our follow up appt to check for allergies if this doesn’t work at all.
Oh and lol to my sleep post. Leap 5 destroyed us. 😩😢😅

dreamcrisp1, I hope the effort to go dairy free is worth it for you! It's so hard when babies aren't gaining like you expect them to, and eczema is such a nuisance.
In our world - we've taken big steps back in sleep. DS is 9 months, and we sleep trained at 4 months, at 6 months, and now I've just had it. The poor baby can't put himself to sleep without screaming at nap times and nighttime. He has been this way since birth, but it has intensified since 6 months old. We've tried the timed intervals to comfort, we've tried not going in at all, nothing helps. He'll scream for at least 30 minutes. If he's really cranked up when he finally falls asleep, he'll fall asleep at 8:30pm, then wake up to scream for 10 minutes at 11pm, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am, and up at 6am for the day. If he's still-screaming-but-more-mellow he'll sleep all night through until 6am.
So, we've started rocking him to sleep. Whatever. He screams safely comforted in my arms or his dad's arms for 15 minutes, goes to sleep, and transfers to the crib. Doesn't wake until morning. I don't give a shit if I have to rock him until he's 25. I have run out of ideas and feel horrible that he can't get himself to sleep without completely exhausting himself by screaming.
Did everyone follow the AAP recommendation to stop swaddling at 8 weeks? I generally try and follow all safe sleep guidelines, but my twins are going to be 8 weeks next week and sleep so well (I mean, as well as a newborn does) swaddled. I never swaddled my first 2 kids. They were late spring/summer babies and I started using the Magic Merlin sleep suit when they fit (12 lbs), but my twins still have a ways to go to 12 lbs.

When did your newborn stop eating every 2 hours? Exclusively formula fed. Dd2 is 3 weeks old and cries every 2 hours on the dot day and night. She takes 2-3 oz. She lasted 3 hours like 2 or 3 times. Maybe this is a growth spurt!? Over the past 3 days, sometimes she wants to eat more often than every 2 hours. She won’t take a bigger bottle, I’ve tried. I feel like DD1 was about every 3 hours at this point, but I could be wrong. Halp!!! Send coffee. ETA-she’s a big baby born at 9lbs 3 oz.

I just make sure to go arms out once they’re rolling. I love swaddling and never rushed to transition out. DS is still hilariously wearing a teensy swaddle around his belly at night at 9 months 😂 I just ordered him a sleep sack today. Poor kid.

See I thought the main issue with swaddling past 8 weeks was the arms pinned down in case of rolling, but apparently the main thing is actually the compression over the chest? I belong to an evidence based safe sleep group on FB and those ladies don’t fuck around so in general I do trust their advice...

sunflower17 - even now at 5 months L will nurse every 2 hours if he's not getting a bottle. Even with a bottle. He's every 2.5 hours still with the exception of overnight. I want to say the overnight every couple hours stopped around 3 months, but L is a little guy (13.5 pounds at 5 months).
lo we fully got out of the swaddle right before 4 months, but were working on getting out of it starting at 3 months because he would bust out of it. The Merlin Sleep Suit is what we ended up transitioning to and haven't looked back. It's been an absolute life saver!

I just shifted it down around the belly, maybe a little above the diaper line? DS has reflux and a gassy belly, so I guess my reasoning was a little extra pressure around the tummy might help.
Now it’s basically just a teeny little blanket that barely Velcros around him, lol.

No but I am not in the US. I used the Ollie until 12 weeks and then switched to the merlin.

Sorry to say but we just moved to 3-3.5 hours at 5 months. He was 2-2.5, occasionally going 3 until then. This is day. Night time stretched out at like 4-5 weeks. By 6-7 weeks he was doing 6 hours or something.

Night time is my concern. I’m looking forward to getting more that 1-1.5 hrs of sleep in a row. 😩 I got so used to having a toddler who sleeps 10-11 hours straight that this really sucks.
We took a baby in a 9 month sleep regression on vacation, where he spent four nights in a pack and play. It went as expected.
We are back home tonight, and D is so over tired from his weekend, still in his regression and apparently confused by his own bed that it's all completely backfired and I'm on our second wake up and it's not even midnight. This is going to be a long night.
Also I'm pretty sure I've undone all of our sleep training at this point and will have to start from scratch. Yay....

This little one slept from 1:30am to 2:40 am. It’s now 4 A.M. and she’s still awake. And she took a bottle at 2:40 and I’m currently feeding her AGAIN because she was screaming her head off. Whyyy? Go to sleep!! ETA- Sorry hamster

Ugh. It’s sooo rough. It lengthened more so around 6 weeks. I went back and checked! The first 4 weeks are just soooo hard.
DS is 6 months. He's been STTN for a month now. Except the last 3 nights he's been waking up 1-2 times. WTF kid? I thought maybe he wasn't getting enough to eat so yesterday I crammed him full of calories and he started whining at 10pm. GO TO BED, yo! A 10pm wake up is not reasonable at all.
Also--my in laws are supposed to take the boys Saturday night but if he's not STTN we'll have to pick him up on our way home from our party instead of leaving him overnight.
DD had FINALLY been sleeping well (for her, still not compared to others her age), and now the last week she's waking up 3-4 hours after bedtime inconsolable for no obvious reason. If we pick her up and rock her she gets super happy and babbles and is fine.... She just wants snuggles. I don't know what's going on. We were all up for 2.5 hours last night because she would scream in her crib and be wide awake if we picked her up. It's been a while since I've been this sleep deprived, ugh. And she already when through the 9 month regression but seems like it's maybe happening again?? She's fine at other times during the night after a feed, but this first one is brutal.
