osulori, it wasn’t an issue with my first, DD, either. DS was just a “low key” eater, but after a little bit of supplementation with pumped milk, he’s back on track. Hope your Z gets there soon!

Thanks! Z has her low key eater days too, and still has some issues with shallow latch though that's been better since her tongue was clipped last weekend. I think I'm going to check out the BF support group at one of the hospitals nearby this week-some objective "outside" opinions would be nice!
If people in my neighborhood don't stop with the GD noisy ass fireworks I am going to go all hormonal sleep deprived newborn mom on someone. 4TH OF JULY IS OVER FFS. My kids both sleep thru it and the dogs are ok (they won't go outside for hours but they're ok) but I can stop thinking about my next door neighbor-his wife died from suicide by gun last summer and I know he's having a rough time with the fireworks
namasteak, it could be that the nipple flow is a bit too fast for him. What bottle/nipple are you using?
Dr Browns with the 0-3 month nipple
If you feel like he's gaining weight well and isn't acting distressed like the formula is flooding him, you could try paced bottle feeding-I found a decent description but need to see if it'll upload.
If he's having trouble with the flow rate-coughing, pulling off the nipple and turning away etc you could try switching from the Dr. B level 1 to the preemie nipple for a bit. Some babies just need to start out at a slower flow rate and that's ok
If the file attached-I'd look at the first section and the second video that talks about breast AND bottle feeding. Paced feeding is a common strategy when bottle feeding breastfed babies but its also hugely helpful for babies that are exclusively bottle fed too. Let me know if you have any more questions!cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5d216271c763e/1115feeding.pdf
Oh that’s rough @osulouri . Are you close enough you could reach out to him in some way?
Not particularly, no The only reason we know for sure that he's having a rough time is because his girlfriend said something to my husband-they were chatting and she asked if anyone on our cul de sac sets them off (which no one does but other people nearby do). J did tell the GF that we're thinking of him though, we're trying to keep an eye on them if they need anything.
I'm not sure if all my feeding therapist knowledge is a blessing, a curse, or both in this situation
I'm friends with a pediatrician, who is married to a pediatric surgeon. She said they have to go to a pediatrician vs just doing it themselves because they found they were either too breezy or they were convinced he had cancer or something.

Thank you so much, I’ll look at the file in the morning. He does cough when feeding occasionally and often turns after he pulls away but then still acts hungry. I’ll give preemie nipples a shot and see if those frustrate him or if it helps.
I've been lucky. Experiencing my first clusterfeed tonight. Though I'm sure he's eating because his tummy hurts, but his tummy hurts because he won't stop eating. And I didn't pump enough for a full bottle earlier so I'm flying solo.
I really do not relate to the "breastfeeding is wonderful" crowd.

woowoo what kind of probiotics are you using? We just switched the type we were using to biogaia probiotics and she has been even more gassy than usual. It’s only been 2 days, so I don’t know if that’s the cause or what, but we will keep going for a while to see if it changes anything.
latte increased gas happened to Ds3 when he started probiotics too. He seemed uncomfortable so the pedi recommended we do half a dose of the probiotics and go up to the full dose over a few days to give his system time to adjust.
Ugh I think I messed up where I had stitches. They fell out awhile ago but maybe it hadn’t healed together or something bc I had some unexpected bleeding tonight. That or I’m getting my period. Either way,no good body.
So of course I can’t fall back asleep after feeding baby 🤦🏻♀️

That’s a great idea. Thank you! I feel so bad because she is clearly in pain. I will give it a whirl.
Did anyone who BF not do the vitamin D drops for baby? I didn’t do them with my DD and just realized I never went and bought any for DS after his 8 week pedi appointment. He is almost 4 months now - are these necessary? Did I mess up?

I started to with my older DS but a) he hated them, b) they stained everything they came in contact with, so I stopped. I haven’t gotten any for my DD yet (5 weeks). I keep meaning to, but it’s not a huge priority #lazy
namasteak, we also started with the preemie nipples for a while and it helped. Until it didn't anymore.
hamster, I hear you. I loved the moments when he was eating and eating well in the beginning, until I found out that he WASN'T actually eating well all along and was dehydrated and anemic and I was SO PISSED at all the breastfeeding hype. I'm still kind of pissed.
Hang in there if you want to hang in there. Otherwise, there is NOTHING wrong with formula.

I bought them for my daughter almost 7 years ago, gave them to her once and she had the worst day/night ever after taking them. Screaming, crying, gas, etc. Maybe no correlation but I never gave them to her again after that.

I snuck mine into bottles when I was at work but was pretty lax about them. Definitely didn’t do it every day. Oops.
Then one day he choked on them and I never did them again.

We're doing them, but lazily. I only put them in bottles, and he only gets bottles (of BM) once a day a couple days a week. Just often enough to keep him on board the "taking a bottle" train. The rest of the time he's nursing and I'm not up for dealing with trying to give him a drop when nursing/on a paci/etc. I figure it's summer, even with me trying to keep him in the shade he's probably fine on vitamin D. When he starts daycare and I'm prepping bottles nightly, then I'll make it more of a habit and he can count on getting a drop 5 days/week.

I always did them. But just as a heads up...as we got closer to 1 year (maybe 6 or 9 month appt I can’t remember) our pedi had us switch from plain Vitamin D to Vitamin D plus iron. Iron is important for EBF babies so at that point I would definitely get in the habit. D was so much easier because it’s clear and 1 drop. Iron smells like blood and stains. . And because DS was later diagnosed anemic we still do them at 2.5. ::::sobs::::
ETA: when he was super drooly we did the iron drop in the bathtub to avoid stains.

I started to worh both kids, then just end up forgetting. I haven't given E2 the vit D drops in at least 3 weeks, probably longer.
