I've been reading this thread and taking notes for my sister, who is insistent upon waiting until after her wedding next March to even go off the pill... she'll be 38. Does anyone know a good RE in the Dallas area I can recommend to her if it comes to that?
My RE was in Dallas and I loved him. Did ivf there. dr Saleh at Sher Institute. Office is at medical city.
I got pregnant just shy of 37 and it took 2 maybe 3 months. All the doctors I spoke too said they didn’t really treat pregnancy as ama until over 40.
Your docs were different than mine. My 35th birthday was 1 month AFTER my due date yet they had "elderly multigravida" all over my chart. I was definitely treated as if I was AMA and I was only 34. Wtf.
I don't really go here but I'm hoping to have another in a couple years if I can get H on board. Each kid took 18+ months of TTC but that wasn't age related.
It seems so practice specific. My doctor is similar to Steamboat’s. Perhaps it’s because she started her family at 37 (3 kids). I turned 35 the month after I got pregnant with dd and I was 37 for the start of my second pregnancy. They offer NIPT and referrals to the high risk group if you want, but they don’t require it or do any additional testing themselves. Their take on it is that they look for all of the same things and if/when they catch something, then they send to the other group. Same as they would for under 35. And they were right. With #2 they caught something and referred us for confirmation. And it ultimately wasn’t anything the high risk group would have caught any sooner, so I don’t regret not going the AMA route. Of course I know that extra level of monitoring provides extra comfort for some people.

What ovulation tests have you all used and liked? I see the cheapies are good. I didn’t realize there was a digital tester and I’ve seen this watch too 👀 seems like too many options

Cheapies, the wondfos from Amazon. I had the digital and I used it and the cheapies at the same time and they gave me the exact same results. I would say to only get the digital if you don't want to play the "is it darker than the test line?" game.

I had the digital reader and liked it. But if I remember correctly, it was a little pricey. I forget what it’s called.

I used the cheap wondfos but I was already pretty sure I wasn't ovulating, so it wasn't something I was willing to invest in. (I wasn't TTC but trying to figure out if there was something wrong - there was. I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own.)
I paid for fertility friend and temped every morning. Again, this was prior to TTC but I was able to bring all the data to an RE and get a diagnosis prior to thinking about kids. FWIW, I had really irregular cycles before going on the pill at 17, so I've always known something was off.
I used Wondfos ($16 for 50ct on Amazon) and I had no problem telling if the line was darker. Start using them around 5-6PM, everyday, starting cycle day 10. Once the line gets dark, use also at 11-noon the next day and again at 5-6PM. Stop using twice a day once the line gets light again. I kept the tests and wrote on the back with a marker the cycle day and PM or AM. It was a good visual of the surge (super light -> light -> dark -> Darker than the test line -> light again). This will give you a good idea of what's going on, how long your surge lasts... My positive Wondfos were always darker than the test line. There was no question about it. This is why I say keep testing twice a day once the line gets dark so you can see how dark it can be. A temp spike was always confirming ovulation the day after a positive. I also used First Response Ovulation tests and they never turned positive.
I don't know if you're on any BC now but if you aren't, you can start doing all of this even if you aren't TTC. This will give you a pretty good understanding about your cycles. When you get the Fertility Friend App, they send you 10 short lessons explaining all of this and more. This was eye opening for me.
