Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. That’s terrifying. I will echo the others, you did the right thing, possessions are not worth your life. I hope they find your car.
Oh how awful. I'm so sorry. Don't second guess not resisting. It could have ended so much worse. Hopefully it was a crime of opportunity and a one off, so you won't need to be fearful in your home/car. Talking to a therapist that specializes in trauma may be helpful as well.

So scary! I’m glad you and your friend are okay. And don’t blame yourself for not locking the doors! They shouldn’t have car-jacked you!! I hope the police find them and your car.
I am so sorry, that is terrifying, but so glad you are okay. You 100% did the right thing and don’t beat yourself up for locking the doors. This is not your fault.
I’m really sorry. That’s so scary. I’m glad you didn’t fight back. You don’t know the whole situation, so definitely better to have taken the path of least resistance.
FWIW, a girl from my university was carjacked while I was there. The guy pulled a gun on her and threw her out of the car. That campus is in a very safe area of town with minimal crime. Stuff like this happens everywhere. I only tell you that to hopefully help you feel like this isn’t specifically related to how safe or unsafe your area is.
I hope they find the car and that it isn’t too damaged. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to recover from that and continue to feel comfortable in your surroundings.

That is so upsetting. I'm so sorry you went through that. I think you did the absolute right things and stayed safe and shouldn't judge yourself at all.
Hugs and thankfully you & your friend are safe. I am sorry this made you feel unsafe in your home area. You did all the right things and be confident that you absolutely can handle yourself in a crisis!
I’m so glad you are ok. That happened to my mom awhile ago. It was scary for everyone. Reach out to people you know and know it’s ok to ask for help when you are scared. I’m sure it was very traumatizing for everyone. I’ll be thinking of you all.
Oh, my God. Thank God you're alright. Please remember that fists are a weapon. You absolutely did the right thing in not resisting. If you truly feel unsafe and want to move, then you should do that. But if you just feel like you SHOULD feel like you want to move, remember that this could really happen anywhere.
I’m so sorry that happened. You shouldn’t second guess yourself about what you should have or could have done. You did the right thing in not resisting.
I oh my god! I’m so sorry! That’s horrible. I’m glad you’re okay, physically.
Yeah, I might not recommend parking on that street anymore, lol. Though the rational part of me still believes it isn't an unsafe place. I think we just got really unlucky with the wrong kids in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thanks! You are absolutely right. Our garage area is a little more secluded than some of the other parts of my block, but it's right next to a light rail station so there are usually some people around. I don't really feel like this is likely to happen again. I just don't really want to feel stressed and anxious every time I want to make plans. I think we almost definitely move when our lease is up, but breaking it would be very costly (looks like over 6k! which is nuts) so I think we might just have to stay here until it's done.
Thanks, everyone. What a crazy thing to happen! It still seems unreal.
They didn't find the car last night, and H and I actually drove around for a bit today to see if we could spot it. We didn't. My phone tracks a location less than a mile away, so they really didn't go far. But who knows what happened after that. I think the phone battery is dead now so that's the end of the tracking. I'm more hopeful my car will turn up than my phone.
Has anyone replaced a phone without insurance before? I still owe like $600 on this one so I have no idea how it works. I love my phone and I'm going to be so pissed if I end up with a crappier one because it costs a ton to replace.

Yes, I think it was bad luck and timing . It is an odd little block without a lot of traffic so they might have felt emboldened if they didn’t see anyone around and just went for it. I’m so glad you only lost your wallet and phone.
How scary for you and your friend! I hope you end up getting your car back in good shape.
Do you have comprehensive on your car? It's possible that your belongings will be covered under "vandalism", it's also possible your home/renter's policy will cover them. It's a messy area that varies by state.
