one of dd's best friends is turning 12 this weekend. She loves Broadway musicals, almost obsessed with them. She also plays the piano. She was really into Hamilton for a while and loved the piano playbook. (I don't play piano, so I don't know what it's called.) Is there a piano book that has maybe top Broadway hits? I looked on Amazon and saw several but since I don't play piano, I am not sure which are good. Or some other gift? I'd like to stay in the $20 range. Thanks!

My neighbors often gave me piano books for special occasions growing up! That's a really great idea. I'm not the best piano player, but I do have several Hal Leonard easy broadway books - Les Mis and Secret Garden are my favorite from this list, but they do have several general Broadway books: www.halleonard.com/search/search.action?dt=item&menuId=771&subsiteid=3&page=1#products
Do you have any way to know her proficiency with piano? I wouldn't be concerned about whether the book is "good" or not, but rather that the difficulty is appropriate. If you could find out what level her lesson books are, you could come back here and share and we could help you find a comparable Broadway book.
You might want to research this, I am not sure if it is available, but it might be a great gift for her if it is.
We found out that the Met Opera and the Bolshoi ballet will stream prerecorded performances into our local movie theater. They are not well advertised and you have to go looking locally, but it might be interesting to see if there is a 'season' of shows available for her to see at her local movie theater.
We have attended many of these performances, and what's really interesting is that during intermission you learn about what happens backstage, and they interview the performers. DH and I really enjoy these, but they are not well attended. Ticket prices are also higher than the average movie ticket price, and the shows are at weird times (like 9 am Sat am).

I think these are Fathom events.
Just this year we've seen the London stage version of Kinky Boots, a documentary about Come From Away (on 9/11), the movie Hello Dolly! and we will be seeing Meet Me in St Louis (film version) in December. I always forget about the ballet and Opera performances.
