I really was being flippant but truly, on a board that really pushes reducing waste and not buying unnecessary useless presents or favors it’s weird to me that everyone is so pro buying some poorly made toy for an adult to smile at once and forget.
He has apparently wanted it for a while, why do you keep assuming he’s gonna use it once and then throw it away?
It’s sort of a one trick pony, isn’t it? How often can you look at it doing the same thing over and over again?
Even if he uses it a few times I can’t imagine it is terribly well-made and would last. A ton of reviews say it either doesn’t work at all or broke right away and that it is a huge battery hog.
My 5yo is the only grandchild on both sides of the family, and all of his grandparents are the sort who show their love through showering him with gifts. So. many. gifts. Last night I got really upset about the wastefulness of it all. I basically have to spend all my time off organizing our house to make space for the new shit.

So he’s gonna lose interest and it will break after one use? Lol
What?
As I said in what you quoted, yes, I think an adult would lose interest quickly. Many reviews say that it either arrived broken or broke after a handful of uses.
Lol, we actually have one in my office that we use as an alert for when our boss is worked up over something particularly ridiculous. It really evokes the flailing around.
A useful use! Does your boss notice?
I think he's starting to catch on, but he hasn't said anything yet. It helps that it can be used for multiple people due to our organization's structure.

I have to add that a Mexican restaurant on the way out of town has a green, white and red one of those inflatable guys by their entrance. When my daughter was 5, she started drawing it occasionally, but the drawings got more and more macabre.
At first, it was just the inflatable guy. Then, there was a child walking into the frame. A few days later, she drew it again with the child closer. In the final version, the inflatable guy had picked up the kid and the kid was screaming.
I try to pick a different driving route out of town now, when possible 🤣
Why would you guys want a miniature version of something that clearly causes trauma for a 5 year old?!? 😜

Another vacation related one- someone backed into our rental car. It was just a bump so you can barely tell. Not sure if the rental car company will pursue it, but I took his insurance just in case. Stressful!

They have the wacky waving inflatable tube man at Barnes and noble.
We took one to our friend in Denmark when we visited in September. H actually looked into what it would take to get a real one...this was more practical. Lol
We got the kids five items each for Christmas which was more than I planned but meh. However then my mil came in with five wrapped gifts each too which makes the somewhat too much 5 wrapped gifts to open actually 10 per child.
Every year I feel rage about it but it seems there is nothing that can be done since she refuses to stop doing this.
My petty complaint is treating my kids differently. SIL and BIL got DD(3) a new outfit and a board game. Awesome. They got DS(7) a shirt. That costs the same or less than her tutu skirt and shirt she received. Why?!? I don’t think he noticed, but it’s just so weird and not something they usually do.
My other petty complaint involves DH’s oldest niece. SIL (from above paragraph) texted everyone in early November about the possibility of just drawing names among all the kiddos, and niece was the first one to shoot it down. She’s 22, and just had her 2nd daughter around Thanksgiving. She stated that she was shopping early and already had gifts for the kids. Cool, I didn’t want to draw names for the kids anyway, so I’m on board. We get gifts for both her kids (and everyone else), and I figure out a gift for her and her H as they aren’t in the adult gift exchange for whatever reason. Christmas with the ILs was yesterday and she gifted my kids nothing. She gifted every other kid something, but not my kids (to be fair, 3 are her half siblings, so I get that, but 2 are cousins to her, like my 2 kids). I’m not so petty I wouldn’t have gotten her kids something if I’d known she was going to completely leave my kids out, but I definitely wouldn’t have stressed about getting her and her H something I knew they’d love, and just would have passed on getting them a gift altogether.
At least my MIL knocked it out of the park with thoughtful gifts for my kids that they’ll use and love. (No sarcasm - she really did) 😊
I'm sad that I either missed meganew's Christmas card or she didn't post it this year.
I took Xanax to make it through Christmas with my in-laws so I don't remember my petty complaints.
We didn’t do one this year! It started as my H and SIL, then I was added in when we got engaged, then eventually the kids- and my SIL is turning 30 this year and felt like she was third wheeling it on our family Xmas card now, so we kind of scrapped it.
Plus they were usually a funny take on some current event and I don’t even know how to make anything right now funny. Womp womp.
What on earth would one do with it beyond look at it once and toss it? What a waste of resources. I can’t imagine it’s even well made.

Well, you have all inspired me to be more jovial about this when we open our gifts later today! So thank you for the chuckles over my morning coffee.
Yes, I wasted $8 on this. My H will get so much joy out of it. Given the reviews, I’m gonna keep both so when one breaks he has a backup. So, no, I’m not sharing, LOL.
I have to say, I’d be upset to both get this as a gift and to realize that I am married to a man who would want one. I’m truly perplexed.
I can understand being upset to get this as a gift if your H knows you would not like it. But to be upset if you found out your H would think it was a funny gift? Its an inane object. I don't understand being upset. Its seems pretty innocuous.
I mean, this is a petty complaint thread. I think this falls squarely in the category of a petty complaint.
My H gave me a gift card for a full day at the spa. Massage, facial, nails, hair etc...which is very generous. He has given it to me before about 7 years ago and I loved it, then again 4 years ago, then 2 years ago when I told him that its a great gift, but no more. Guess what I got this year?

But she’s not even complaining about a gift she got. She’s complaining about a gift a stranger is getting and judging them for *wanting* it. That’s more a flameful post.

I consider it a cop out gift.
H does this with Starbucks cards. I had to say don’t get me another damn Starbucks card because I have a Nespresso and don’t go to Starbucks anymore
Then he got me a massage gift certificate. LOL though I really do need one so I’m good with it

So my H this year got me a gift card for a nail salon. I said I didn't want said gift card and yet he got it anyways. Sigh.
I told him what I wanted, which was a no win situation as I don't know which hockey/ping pong tables I want to buy yet. So I know he wanted to give something...
Also, I totally filled up my stocking and bought myself presents. I've done this for the past 3 years and I'm much happier doing so.

I told him last time, do not get another one! See where that got me. He did buy me a beautiful amethyst necklace fore my bd so I feel bad complaining, but it is a last min. scramble gift IMO.

I told my SILs I don't want to do a gift exchange back in October. I think this was a weirdo move on my part, but I have NO desire to do anymore gift exchanges. WE can just get the kid's stuff. Plus I'm being petty because while we got them a specialty Whiskey and an awesome makeup set (that she wanted) we received a book (that I don't care about) and a shirt last year. Plus both SILs are well off let's just skip the gift giving. Thanks...

This is funny because my H asked me what I wanted and I told him “the answer is always a massage certificate.” I am so pleased he listens and I do hope I get one every year.

I did this for the first time this year. I bought myself a ring and a bag, and purchased new underwear/socks/dressing robe to wrap "from Santa". I will do this from now on--at least I had something to open!

I belong to a monthly message place, so I already get one once a month! And he is well aware. My MIL also gave me a message gift certificate. lol

How did it go? I want one really badly, but I guess I shouldn't get one for my husband's birthday. LOL

Well, now I feel bad being so petty. I mean, the wacky waving fan man was super cheesy, but DH loved his. I mean, LOVED. 😂 He knew I’d want to return mine about 4 minutes after he received it so at least he wasn’t surprised by my reaction. I really did try to be jovial, but it was hard to fake.
BUT. he got me like 4 other things off my list that were SO COOL. Totally what I wanted. So I feel bad that I was feeling so petty about this one thing. Blah.
If you think you want one, it’s worth it as a funny/novelty gift. It works as a fan man is supposed to. But be smarter than me and buy a 9-volt battery since that’s what the one I linked takes. We had to spend about 20 minutes finding a battery before we could continue opening gifts, LOL. #eyeroll
My son's ILs don't know limits. Not only do they go overboard all year long in gifting to our grandsons, at least 2-3 times a week they get several gifts each but now they do it with our granddaughter. This granddaughter is NOT their granddaughter, she is OUR daughter's child. I don't know for sure how much they spent on her but easily $150, maybe $200 worth of gifts. Giving her a small gift or two would be nice but the amount of gifts and cost is crazy. They are nice people, we really like them but they don't know when to stop. It drives our son nuts because they don't always think through the gifts that they give.
