Oh, so those of us that didn't love it feel that way because they were brown women?
Okay.
I think we should all always question our bias. When Gaga performed wearing much less, the conversation wasn’t about her overt sexuality. It was about her weight, which is still fucked up and a conversation for later. When Madonna performs we are all supposed to be so I’m awe of her ability to be amazing at her age, which is some ageist bullshit when can discuss for another time. When Beyonce performed it was all about her outfit and her lack of pants and her ass being out. Same with JLo. Do you see a theme here?
Any my original comment wasn’t aimed at anyone single person. It was more a cultural dig. But sometimes we are offended by random comments when they hit too close to home ::shruggy gif::
Didn’t this air after 8:30 pm or so? Must everything be family-friendly? Without debating whether it was or not, ffs football is violent as hell, the show aired after 8 on a school night, so why exactly should this be considered a family event?
I'm not one who thought it was inappropriate nor do I think football needs to be family friendly, but for us West Coasters it aired at 5:30.
Ah. Thank you for the clarification. I still argue that the Super Bowl is not necessarily a family-friendly event. It’s violent and they booked performers who put on a more adult show. Parents shouldn’t expect everything to dumb down to kid friendly.
In one shot her hand was on her inner thigh, just in front of her crotch. I did not find it gratuitous and was expecting to after people's comments here. But to each their own. I do find it annoying for people to be questioning two Latina women on what is dancing inspired by traditional Latin dancing. It is laughable.
I watched again and kept waiting to see something crazy and nope. nothing crazy.
I completely missed any crotch grabbing. I'm not a huge fan of either singer but I thought overall the show had great energy and I loved that they really seemed to be enjoying themselves. That was my exact takeaway at the end, I truly thought "wow, they really had a lot of fun with this". It was fun.
I’ve heard multiple times here and in my mom boards that “kids felt uncomfortable”. I would guess in most of these cases it was because they heard the adults in the room talking and their talking made them uncomfortable. I really can’t imagine most youngins feeling uncomfortable watching that. It was amazing talent from 2 beautiful, talented women.
My kid was more concerned with other stuff at the time, but I’d have no problem with him watching now or in 5 years.
ETA: I really don’t think there was excessive crotch grabbing LOL

I loved the dancing but thought the camera angles were aimed a lot at crotch level which I found distracting. Damn they look good though! I liked the outfits but didn’t love the constant crotch shots especially during the slide.

People worrying about their precious children seeing a crotch grab are also letting their children watch a game that is completely problematic from the way it handles issues like domestic violence, health and race issues to name a few
I watched with my 10 year old daughter and we both loved it. It never occurred to either of us to be offended. She was amazed at the dancing and has no idea there could be a sexual connotation to it. I had no idea people found it not "family friendly" until I went online. I find this particularly hilarious because she literally performed with family. The fact that she was on stage performing at the Super Bowl with her own daughter seems almost like the definition of "family friendly."
Pole dancing in itself is not sexual. When it's in a strip club and the person is naked is what makes it sexual.
Also, the strength required to pole dance is unbelievable. J-Lo trained for months and months to be able to do the movie Hustlers, which she was nominated for a golden globe.
This is how I felt about the pole dancing. I couldn’t do that at 25 and she’s doing it at 50. I didn’t feel the pool dancing was sexual at all and was freakin amazed at how she did that, the strength is took...damn girl!
I blame the crotch shots on the camera people. Better angles could have helped that. I think they are amazing, strong, sexy women that did a kick ass halftime show and one of the best I’ve seen in a long, long time!
My only comment is when JLo has the black outfit it’s now clear the other one was under it, and it gave her a bit of a diaper look until She took off the black outfit.
I told my H I thought it was a pad 🤣
Show was great!! They can both still get it. Only thing I found distracting was the consistent hair of J Lo’s dancers. Just didn’t like the aesthetic 🤷🏻♀️

So after this thread I couldn’t help but watch on YouTube. You people are crazy. I thought I was gonna see 2 people fucking on stage or something. There was absolutely nothing wrong with their performances. What did people expect, nuns performing in floor length attire? Have you all never been to a concert? WTF, I’m so confused.
Frankly, shakira’s costumes covered more than some of the dance costumes I’ve seen dance competition moms put on their 8 year olds. J Lo’s most revealing one covered maybe a tad less but she at least had on tights (actually, a bodysuit), which none of these little kids seem to do anymore. So the pearl clutching from the same people who pick out similar costumes for their young kids is particularly telling.
My 6 year old watched, and the things he commented on were: “They’re really great at dancing!” “How do they have time to switch outfits?” “How do all those people get up there so quickly???”
We’re on the EC and he went to bed right after halftime 🤷🏻♀️
I loved it! They killed it and proved they should only have women perform because it was the best show since Gaga. I watched it with my 10 and 13 year old and the only comments were about how good they looked, how difficult it is to dance like that, and questions about how they change clothes so fast.
I thought they both did an amazing job. I had no issue with their outfits, the poles, or the dancing. I could have done without the camera angles on various occasions though. I don’t really want that clear of a view of ANYONE’s crotch area, if I’m being honest. Covered or not. Lol
The half time show was amazing! All I managed to notice was the Puerto Rican flag during “Born in the USA.” Everything moved so fast and I was trying to sing along to the songs. I left to put the kids to bed and woke up to see people upset over what I think were non-issues. It’s the halftime show, not an episode of Sesame Street! I’m so confused.
I loved it. My kids couldn’t figure out why they didn’t know who the singers were because they seemed like they had it going on. My 11 year old was only complaining because he wanted the football back.

I googled it to watch it this morning. No Super Bowl here, thank God (football bores me).
What are people making such a big deal about? It’s dance and those are dance costumes. The costumes are there to highlight the moves and show the body as part of an art form. Society is way too uptight these days and thinks everything is sexualized. It’s a body we all have one. Then again I have no problem with walking around naked at a sauna here (not allowed to wear anything in a sauna here).
I'm not one who thought it was inappropriate nor do I think football needs to be family friendly, but for us West Coasters it aired at 5:30.

This is what I keep thinking? Since when is football family friendly? Its literally men attacking each other to the point of brain damage.
I watched with DS (9) and he just complained because he wanted football to come back on, lol. However, he was shaking his booty a little. I loved Shakira’s performance. J Lo was great as well, but I can see where people could find issue with the sexiness. I was definitely more just impressed that she is able to perform like that at 50.

The camera angles are often really strange. The year Beyonce performed (2013), the camera was literally in her ass crack several times. It also seems like they film from in the crowd below instead of stage level or something.

Eh, I don't agree. Plenty of people put their kids in situations that they shouldn't and just because a child is there doesn't make an event "family friendly".
That being said, I have no dog in the fight over whether the half time show was or wasn't OR should or shouldn't be family friendly. I enjoyed the show, watched it with my 11 year old son. I do recall thinking "could we stop seeing JLo grabbing at her crotch?" (maybe if I watch it again, I'll see this differently, thinking about camera angles), but past that, I didn't have issue with it.
