I watched with my 10 year old daughter and we both loved it. It never occurred to either of us to be offended. She was amazed at the dancing and has no idea there could be a sexual connotation to it. I had no idea people found it not "family friendly" until I went online. I find this particularly hilarious because she literally performed with family. The fact that she was on stage performing at the Super Bowl with her own daughter seems almost like the definition of "family friendly."
Eh, I don't agree. Plenty of people put their kids in situations that they shouldn't and just because a child is there doesn't make an event "family friendly".
That being said, I have no dog in the fight over whether the half time show was or wasn't OR should or shouldn't be family friendly. I enjoyed the show, watched it with my 11 year old son. I do recall thinking "could we stop seeing JLo grabbing at her crotch?" (maybe if I watch it again, I'll see this differently, thinking about camera angles), but past that, I didn't have issue with it.

Lolol remember when what’s her name “accidentally” brought her kids to a swingers party?! That didn’t suddenly make it a family event.
To be clear I’m not comparing that to this. It was just a thought in my head.
Anyway I didn’t realize until this morning that was J.Lo’s daughter and what an amazing moment that must have been for the two of them!
When they tried to make the halftime shows “family friendly” post Janet they were consistently snooze fests. I’d that this over those any day.
I saw no crotch grabbing strange. It could have been that I was dancing nearly the entire time and screaming that Bad Bunny and J Balvin made an appearance. This was a big night for the Latinas and I am so damn excited about it. Also I love the Puerto Rico flag dig. Well played and well performed. My kid wasn't as impressed but she loves Billie Eilish or Melanie Martinez and asked when will they be doing a super bowl.
I was blown away at the athleticism and stamina of both of them. They're both SO talented. My new life goal is to look as good as JLO when I'm 50. And I agree that her hair was amazing. I saw an article this morning that said her look was 10 hours in the making. Gah.
My 5 year old's only comment during it was "I can see her butt!"
I typically am not a big fan of half time shows in general. I didn’t care for Adam Levine taking off his shirt and Justin Timberlake’s deer outfit was the absolute worst.
I liked Shakira’s outfit. I didn’t care for the black chaps look of J-Lo’s the silver outfit was nicer. I agree the camera angle crotch shots were weird. I guess they’ve done that before with other performers with the weird camera angles.
I though the pole was a nod to J-Lo’s latest movie. It’s all approved by the NFL right?, so I hardly think they care about family friendly. I mean I think they pretend they care, but they don’t actually.

I thought it was great and would love to know JLo's arm workout! Both of them looked phenomenal, especially for their ages.
I was laughing that during the show I felt like JLo might move wrong and her bedazzled part of her outfit would show a bit much, but I was kidding. I'm sure that thing was secure! I also saw a friend post about the bedazzled pad JLo was wearing, it made me laugh- but I honestly give her SO much credit to be able to pull off that entire performance.

Why are we spending so much time talking about JLo’s crotch and not about the message she was trying to deliver about how we’ve treated asylum seekers in this country? Or Puerto Rican pride (“Born in the USA?”)
So American. More horrified by sexual innuendo than human rights violations.
ETA: We could also be talking about the historic moment of having two Latina headliners for the Super Bowl, one of the most “American” events of the year. And in Miami! (Glad to see the Super Bowl half time committee learn from the Atlanta/Maroon 5 misstep.)
I thought it was amazing as did everyone I watched it with. I have always loved Shakira and JLo was awesome too. Their strneght, their amazing moves and just how much fun they were having. IT was a perfect Latino half-time show for Miami and had such a great message. They killed it.
My almost-9 year old watched the show and loved it. 🤷♀️
My 8 and 6 yo DDs watched it and loved it. They are both big into dance so it was fun to see the amazing choreography by the back-up dancers too! My H and I also agreed that it was the best halftime show in years.

Seriously. My favorite aspect of the costume was the double sided feather flag. Get it, JLo.
My only comment is when JLo has the black outfit it’s now clear the other one was under it, and it gave her a bit of a diaper look until She took off the black outfit.
I told my H I thought it was a pad 🤣
Show was great!! They can both still get it. Only thing I found distracting was the consistent hair of J Lo’s dancers. Just didn’t like the aesthetic 🤷🏻♀️
This was the only issue MH and I had too....we finally figured it out when she changed outfits! Should have hid it better!
Ok so all I took slight issue with here was the crotch touching. But I also thought Adam Levine taking his shirt off was unnecessary. Comparing this to him or Madonna or Michael Jackson is annoying bc they didn’t perform so of course no one is criticizing them right now. You have no idea how anyone would feel about those.
Wait, but can't we consider the lack of criticism when those shows did happen? I imagine that's why people are bringing these other artists up. Michael Jackson 100% grabbed his crotch during his halftime performance and the Adam Levine stuff was super recent. I don't recall much, if any, controversy about those performances. The point people are trying to make is that there is clearly a double standard when it comes to sexuality.
I wish there was more commentary going on about the imagery of kids in cages and the amazing representation of Latin culture.

And that is definitely true if you're talking about America as a whole. But some of these responses about being hypocritical or being influenced by race or gender seem personally directed at specific posters who are mentioning things when maybe they also criticized Michael Jackson and Adam Levine, but we just don't know it.
Growing up my Latina ass longed to see myself on tv, seeing these two loved Latinas performing at the Super Bowl, dancing and singing in Spanish at times, made my heart burst.
My entire family danced and sang and celebrated seeing us on tv. Even my 10 and 11 y/o nieces.

Ugh, Adam Levine. The embodiment of slime
That was some good stuff. Shakira is so great. And JLo! It's funny, I really don't care for her music, but she is one of my absolute favorites, lol. I can't explain it. She's a bomb-ass girl who uses her platform for good, and I am HERE for the dream that is looking like her and being a freaking beast like her (THE POLE! OMG!) at 50.
I really, really don't understand the pearl clutch. Lord, who gives a shit about crotch grabs? OH NO. Tastefully-covered crotch also being covered by a hand!
Let's use this as a way to overlook literally everything good about this performance!
Well my appropriateness meter must be broken because I loved it, let my kids watch and didn’t think twice. My 8 yo made a comment about j lo being naked but I laughed. It’s a costume, it was fun. The 3s graphics made my head spin (but were super cool). I loved the USA / PR flag and combining let’s get loud with born in the USA. Loved her daughter being out for that and shakira rocking the drums. I went back and watched (like 10 more times) and I feel like maybe there were a few gratuitous crotch shots and the spank dancing maybe was maybe a little much, but it still doesn’t bother me.

This is not a bug, it's a feature. If conservative talking heads can distract you with the sinful nature of the clothing and dancing, then even if you did notice those themes, they're discredited because they're being promoted by two heathens.

I agree about the sexual innuendo especially when it is coming from women. Also, having performers who are incredible at getting a crowd pumped up is the way to go.
I just watched it and loved it so much!! I don't understand the complaints at all. I saw two woman go up on the stage, defy gender and age biases, and entertain the hell out of everyone. It was amazing.
I turn 43 in 18 months. Shakira has just given me life goals! If I can half that confidence at 43 I'd be thrilled. Man she killed it. I forgot how much I love her.
Also, they were both wearing more clothes than Adam Levine did last year and no one complained about that.
I saw a comment from someone on Facebook (on a local news station's post) about how she had to ask her 3 TEENAGE boys leave the room because she was so disgusted by the sexual content. Rightfully, people lit her on fire. If you can't distinguish between sexual content and a culture's dance scene, you have no right to cast your judgement. Their costumes were nothing different from figure skaters, gymnasts or other professional dancers and their moves were based on Latin culture. As someone upthread said, it's time to get out of our bubbles.
I didn't watch, but I have seen photos from the show, and what really annoys me is that JLo is clearly in amazing shape, and she looks better than 90% of the population, yet she still photoshops the pictures she posts on Instagram.

The amount of women bitching about how “not family friendly” their performance was on all forms of social media is pissing me off. Same women who dismissed Donald Trump’s “grab her by the pussy” BS as locker room talk. All of the offended Karens need to sit the hell down. Your kids are going to be just fine. Hell, half of them have probably seen nudes on Snapchat already. 🙄
The performance was amazing, especially by a 50 year old woman. (Side note, I had no idea J Lo was 50 until last night.)
