It's going to be a super busy weekend and I am so ready for this week to be over!
Swim meets both days, a daddy daughter dance and my neighbors 40th Bday party. I'm supposed to wear sequins (which is so not my thing) and I feel like I need to bring something. Is a bottle of Rose enough?
We missed our last ski lesson because DS1 had a recently diagnosed ear infection and was still feeling crummy. Today the mountains are getting hit with like 3 feet of snow. We have several inches at home already. I was a little nervous about making the drive, so we bailed. I'm kind of bummed because I think it would have been really good for DS1 to get that last lesson in, but oh well.
This cold has been brutal. I'm hacking up junk and my throat hurts from all the drainage. I'm over it. We have dinner plans tomorrow night with friends and I'm annoyed that my taste buds are off because of the congestion. Hoping for some magical improvement over the next 24 hours.
It's supposed to be pretty nice tomorrow, sunny and 50s, after tons of snow, so it should be a great day for sledding. I'm looking forward to that.
Finally Friday! I feel like this week has been the longest week ever.
DS has a BFF at daycare, these 2 are attached at the hip and always hug goodbye everyday and when we leave daycare and go past the window DS's BFF stands by the window and waits and they wave at each other and press their hands against the window. Well, Monday at pick up BFF was crying because he got a little hurt and DS was SO distraught. He wasnt at daycare the next day because of a stomach bug but all evening Monday and ALL day Tuesday all we heard was "Neko crying Neko crying". He was back at daycare Wednesday but home again yesterday and all day again was "Neko crying" and always in this really sad tone. We had to keep telling DS that Neko was not still crying anymore and that he is okay now but nope.
I am so glad it's Friday. This has felt like the longest week.
Our anniversary is on Sunday, so we're going out to celebrate tomorrow night. I'm super excited to go to our favorite restaurant, and we're planning to go to a couple of fun cocktail bars before/after to make more of an evening out of it. I have no other plans this weekend, which I'm also excited about. I am thinking of making lasagna on Sunday just to have something a little more special actually ON our anniversary (I hardly ever make lasagna, too much work!).
I went to the doctor for my cough yesterday and she was only minimally helpful. She did sent me for a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia, but I'd be shocked if that was the issue. I think I have bronchitis. She said since I've been coughing for almost 3 weeks, it's probably not bronchitis but it's likely it is allergies. Honestly, I don't believe that at all. There is nothing in the air right now that should cause an issue (it's February in Maryland! Nothing is blooming!) and I'm just as irritated at home, work, in the car, at a store, etc. I feel like if it was something environmental my reaction would vary by setting. Also whenever I've had allergies in the past it's mostly itchy eyes/sneezing/stuffy nose, not coughing fits. This is literally just coughing fits and shortness of breath/chest pain. So... I guess we'll see if the cough medicine and inhaler she prescribed help. I sure hope so. I'm tired, and it's frustrating to have these coughing fits in public places. I had to leave my class last night for a few minutes because I just couldn't stop coughing. Same thing happened a few minutes ago at work.

This is so sweet (and sad!). I hope Neko is all better next week so your son can have his friend back!
I went into work late because I had to drop E off and on the way to work, I got a bunch of text messages that the power was out. Half of the post is out due to the wind, so at 10am we released everyone on either admin leave or telework. Some don't have power at home either. It's just a crazy windy day and a lot of branches and trees have come down b/c it rained all day yesterday.
So I'm home working, but it was already going to be a super quiet day with a ton of people out. I'm hoping I can finish up an employee's retirement award packet and work on a new employee's standards.
I have an appointment with my gyn today to get more information about a possible hysterectomy. DH and are also talking/deciding about using a donated embryo to get pregnant, but we still haven’t decided. We are still very much in the information gathering phase... still. I’m 42
I also took a personal day and slept in until 8! My normal wake up is 5:30. So yay! Sleeping. I needed it. I’m going to work out at noon I think.

The pass we drive over to get to the resort is supposed to get 4 feet between yesterday and tomorrow! It's a good thing we are finally in our house in town so we didn't have to worry about driving over or the kids missing school. Dd was supposed to leave this morning for a basketball trip to Paonia and Hotchkiss, but they ended up leaving after school yesterday and going as far as Rifle. A drive that should have only taken 3 1/2 hours took almost 6 (with a couple rest stops and a stop for dinner). They will drive the last couple of hours to Paonia today, then stay the night there and go to Hotchkiss tomorrow. I need to go to the resort to do laundry so hopefully the weather is ok on Sunday. Otherwise I will have to see if I can borrow someone's washer and dryer because I'll be out of clean clothes on Sunday.
Something at my desk smells really bad, and I can't figure out what. A bottle of dry erase cleaner leaked on something - that might be it? But I threw it in the trash and I feel like it still smells in the place it leaked. It doesn't quite smell like rotting food or a dead animal, but I can't figure out what the issue is. It's annoying.
Another total random - I went to Chipotle for dinner last night, and when they asked if I wanted guacamole I said "no thanks". I guess the girl didn't hear me, because she put guac on anyway. I love guac, but don't love paying so much for it. But I didn't say anything and paid for it anyway. I need to work on my assertiveness and not always assuming things that go wrong are my fault, lol. I do think that if they aren't sure if you answered yes or no, they should confirm before plopping it on there...

Yeah, go back to urgent care and try again. I had a cough for like, two months. My U/C doc was like, "Yeah, anything more than two weeks we want to see you. Chest Xray was clear.
wildrice I had some kind of virus in August, and had a cough that lingered until at least Thanksgiving week. It sounded very similar to your symptoms, and at the time, it seemed like there were a lot of other people out there who had the same thing.
The cough was truly annoying, both to me and to my poor H who had to listen to it. It was a little scary too, since I had chronic bronchitis for most of my life, but have been bronchitis free for the past 15 years at least. It kind of felt like that to me....but not quite. It was exhausting.
I thought the pharmacist was nuts when he suggested that allergies were making the cough worse, (I was looking for help with the cough/cough medicine, hoping to avoid the dr), but figured that it was worth a shot. After treating it as if it was an allergy issue, (allergy meds, Navage nasal wash) it greatly improved. The cough still hung around a bit, but it improved and the shortness of breath and heavy chest were gone.

I'm getting nominated for a special leadership program that would take place in a fancy place for a whole week in June. They only pick 30 people in my state, so fingers crossed my resume, or nomination or whatever it takes gets me picked. I've put myself way to into this that I'll get picked, and have started to research hotels in the area trying to figure out which one would build up points for my future vacation. Even if the boss picked me because I'd have the most "free time" to do it, I'm still excited for the nod.
DH is working tonight, but I'm ready for leggings and Lifetime movies. I sound like a MLM. We have no plans for the first time in weeks, I'm so ready!

But what cleared up my cough was a Z-pack.
My coworker (who pushed me to go to the doctor after hearing me cough for the last 2 weeks) had bronchitis last summer and the Z pack was the only thing that helped her, too. I have honestly never heard of anyone coughing for LESS THAN 3 weeks with bronchitis, so I think I need a new doctor lol.
I may give it a day with the cough medicine and see if that makes a difference, then go to UC over the weekend if not.

Interesting. Do you still have to take the allergy medicine now or did it eventually go away?
I do already take Zyrtec daily because I'm mildly allergic to cats, and I have a cat. The daily meds manage that just fine. I am sure it's not the cat that's the issue, since I'm just as symptomatic when I'm not around him (and this actually started at the tail end of my vacation, when I hadn't seen him in over a week and wasn't around animals at all!). But if I have some new super allergy maybe I need something else?

I don't take allergy meds on a regular basis, and since the cough stopped, I don't think that I had taken any until last week when something seemingly allergy related cropped up.
I know that what worked was the combination allergy meds with sudafed that you have to get from the pharmacist. The other thing that made me think that the pharmacist might be on to something when I had the cough was that they were almost out of all of the good allergy meds. I think I had one option in the dosage that I wanted, and there should have been several different brand choices.
styme46 , I probably missed this. Are you guys not living at the resort full time anymore?
We bought a house in town to use during dd's basketball season because practices are at 6:00 a.m. sometimes, go until 8:00 p.m. sometimes and game days are crazy. With the resort being an hour + away (especially this time of year) we decided it would be much easier on everyone (especially 7 yo ds) to be able to stay in town during the season then drive back and forth. So the kids and I are in town and H is at the resort. We will either rent to seasonal Federal employees or VRBO/Air BnB the house during the months we aren't here.
I have been hit with a sudden wave of doubt about my move/going back to school. I think it really centers around having a completely foggy view of what it means for my life in 2 years. I feel like all I do know is that I will have not been working for a year, will have depleted all of my savings, and will be in a different country. I am sure that throughout the year I will make connections and things will firm up as I go, but right now, I am just filled with doubt and it feels like I am making a bad call.

For a cough longer than a month the differential can be wide, so it can most certainly be allergies. Especially for people who are living in new areas. So I always throw it out as a possibility and offer different treatment options. It could also be cough variant asthma or gerd. Unfortunately a lot of the time it’s a clinical diagnosis and you have to see how a patient does with different treatment options.
Bronchitis shouldn’t be treated with antibiotics. Research studies that have actually cultured people after a clinical diagnosis of bronchitis shows that over 90% of the time it’s viral. If a person has been coughing for 3-4 weeks then gets an antibiotic and starts to feel better it’s likely they would get better without the antibiotic as well.
The overuse of azithromyicn is causing a lot of resistance for bacterial infections. I just mention that because it doesn’t sound like your doctor is a bad doctor based on what you said.
I just got over coughing for 6 weeks, definitely annoying since I talk a lot throughout the day. I hope that some of the things prescribed help you to feel better.

jigsy, I'm in my capstone for my program right now and still daydream about dropping out. The feeling never goes away, but you know what you're doing will put you in a better position to get what you want when you figure out what it is you want.

Just wanted to say that 2 Februarys ago, I had this weird heavy chest and dry cough for weeks and it ended up being allergies. I already took daily meds so I thought the dr was just grasping for something. I switched meds and added Flonase and it went away. My allergies in the past always presented as itchy eyes and sneezing. Anyway, it came back the following February too and went away once I upped my meds. I was living in Colorado and it was cold and winter but apparently there was something that was causing it.
I'm 20 minutes away from the weekend, and it's going SO SLOWLY.
I don't even know what we're doing this weekend, nothing on the calendar. Clean out closets? Go to Costco? Find something fun to do? No idea, which means we'll probably end up doing nothing. I can't decide if that's relief or depressing.
I have another one. I mentioned recently that I was selected to do a 2-day taste test (only an hour each day). I just found out that the taste test is for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, only the best candy bar ever! So, I'm kind of excited about that

Thank you! I trust your knowledge so this makes me feel better I've only been to this doctor one other time, for a well visit, so I really have no idea if she's good or not... maybe I'll have to give her the benefit of the doubt.
It's odd because I actually haven't had any seasonal allergies yet since I've lived here, so that was basically the last thing I thought she'd suggest, especially in February.
Anyway, good to know too about the antibiotics. Hopefully it will start to resolve on its own, then. I may be coughing a little less this afternoon after taking the prescription cough meds, so that's an improvement at least! I'm glad you're feeling better, too - 6 weeks is a long time!
So I need a new printer. I was hoping to use some Office Depot/Office Max rewards. I've gone back and forth with CS over email Now they are saying someone used my rewards in Georgia. WTF, this is why I just buy on amazon.
I basically said, I'm trying to buy a printer this weekend, if you want my business, how are you going to fix this? We'll see what they say.

I don't like this.
You only get to be young (ish) and free to do stuff like this for so long in life. I think taking an opportunity to move to another country, for any reason, is unlikely to be something you regret!
Anytime I've tried to plan my life, it always ends up differently anyway. So I say as hard as it is, don't worry about not knowing and just keep optimistic that whatever it is, it will end up being good.

This is my dream job.
Yes! And I am actually getting paid over $100 to do this. So I am, in fact, living the dream LOL
