- Whole Foods Green Tea (flavor & health benefits) - Harney & Sons Paris (comfort & flavor, it's my absolute favorite) - Whole Foods Peppermint (for heartburn, sometimes I do peppermint & green together) - Chai powdered from Trader Joe's (flavor, but man is it loaded with sugar)
I'm looking for something that may help me wind down in the evening. I've never had any "sleepy time" teas, and I dislike chamomile and floral flavors.
Any suggestions on a tea that can help me relax before bedtime?
I like Celestial's Vanilla Sleepytime tea, but it has chamomile. I don't find it to be over whelming, though.
I love a classic English Breakfast tea and I'm also a fan of Harney & Sons Paris tea (Palm Court is also really good -- I just found out about that one last weekend when we did Valentine's Tea at a local place).
We have a local spice & tea store, and I really like the Iron Goddess of Mercy Tea that they carry. It a Chinese oolong that's really light and fresh. They also have Earl Grey Creme Tea -- I HATE Earl Grey, but I decided to give this a try and I love it. It's not nearly as overwhelming as normal Earl Grey.
Genmaicha is a green tea that I love that has toasted rice in it. I like the loose leaf because you can see the toasted rice that popped, like little tiny kernels of pop corn.
A local restaurant does a Russian tea and they have a custom tea blend that's Georgian Caravan that's really delightful. I haven't had it in awhile so I can't remember how to describe it.
Tazo has a baked cinnamon apple tea that I really like in the fall because it's comforting and tastes like fall. In the UK, I discovered that I love Clipper Lemon & Ginger tea. It was perfect for me to wind down before bed with.
Finally, I have a tea that I make myself from a spa at a resort in Mexico that we love to go to. They call it an ayurvedic digestive tea that's 1/2 teaspoon anise seed, 1 teaspoon fennel seed & 1 teaspoon coriander seed and it's one of my favorite things ever to drink.
I love Aveda's Comforting Tea. It has something in it that gives this natural light sweet flavor at the end of the sip. It is the only tea that I have never had to add sugar to.
"You. You and your crazy life. You and your geographic anomaly. You and your drunken lesbianic ways and terrible navigational skills." - ProfArt and her holy baby
I love Aveda's Comforting Tea. It has something in it that gives this natural light sweet flavor at the end of the sip. It is the only tea that I have never had to add sugar to.
I pretty much exclusively drink Jasmine pearl tea. I find it relaxing. I drink it in the morning fairly often and occasionally in the afternoon. I don't drink a ton of caffeine, so I don't need it to wake up. The tea in the morning is more ritualistic than anything. It's warm and tastes good.
I love Aveda's Comforting Tea. It has something in it that gives this natural light sweet flavor at the end of the sip. It is the only tea that I have never had to add sugar to.
In the winter it’s Chocolate Mint from Harney’s, which is neither too minty nor too chocolate-y. I like the Watermelon Mint tea from Trader Joe’s in the summer.
And for iced tea I buy the Tazo pitcher sized bags of black tea.
I don’t often drink tea at night but if I do it’s usually just a mint tea. I don’t like chamomile or other herbal teas so plain mint it is!
I used to like Stash Moroccan mint, but now I drink Numi's mint tea. I tried Harney's mint tea but had an allergic reaction (tickle in throat, throat closing, cough) after one sip. I thought it was a fluke and took a second sip and found out it wasn't, so I have stayed away from that one, and I have never reacted ro another mint trea like that. It was weird.
I love oolong tea, and one of my favorites is Paromi lemon ginger. I know you said that you don't like chamomile, but they have a tea blend called Sleep With Me that is chamomile, lemon balm, and a lot of other things that is pretty nice, and doesn't taste overwhelming like chamomile.
ETA: I forgot about the two teas that I drink most often... my daily chai latte and an ayurvedic tea.
I have been a tazo chai latte drinker for many years, but I just made my second batch of homemade chai concentrate and it's pretty good, but I am still tweaking ther recipe. I have been using Numi darjeeling tea to make it ( I had forgotten how much I like darjerling), but I may try assam.
We use fennel, coriander, cumin and fennel seeds in our ayurvedic tea. We make enough every morning for each of us to have two or three cups throughout the day.
I also love Harney's Paris Blend. I don't drink a lot of caffeinated tea, but I have at least half a dozen of their sample sachets in both caffeinated and caffeine free varieties. The only one I've of theirs I've had so far that I've hated is their best selling cinnamon one they sent me a tea bag of - yuck.
I also drink their organic peppermint (the one that's just straight mint leaves), but my H really likes that one too, so I probably have that one the most. It's my go-to relaxing evening tea. But I'm the exact opposite of most people and mint makes my heartburn worse, so it's not a nightly thing.
For chai I use the Oregon Chai liquid mix. It's pretty high in sugar, but I mix it with more milk than it calls for and drink it iced in the summer (it also comes in caffeine free and low sugar options).
I haven't purchased any for myself, but my tea store manager friend introduced me to Murchie's Canadia Breakfast, and it's delightful. I don't sweeten my tea, but the maple flavor is just light enough to be pleasant and not overpowering.
If I'm doing grocery store tea bags I go for Stash (preferably double bergamot earl grey).
I love Aveda's Comforting Tea. It has something in it that gives this natural light sweet flavor at the end of the sip. It is the only tea that I have never had to add sugar to.
Yup. They are constantly offering me that nasty crap whenever I go into their stores. It is so sweet that it makes me gag. It has a ton of licorice root and fennel root in it and both of those are cloyingly sweet to my palate.
I've been into the loose leaf teas wherever I can find them. I like jasmine and oolong, then there is this Russian bakery near me that imports a black tea that is great. When I was in Colorado there was a tea shop that just sold loose leaf teas and would mix a bag based on what you wanted (morning wake up, relaxing, destress). I ended up with chamomile lavender that was pretty good.
