Day 6 of the longest weekend ever. I've already been out of the office for 2.5 weeks with no idea when we'll be going back. I've done exactly ZERO school work with my kids. DD just spent two weeks in the hospital and still has a lot of restrictions around activity and food, so for right now, I'm just kind of letting them do whatever for now. H is still working but he really doesn't want to be, he's super paranoid, so he's been walking in the house and immediately stripping down and putting his clothes directly in to the wash. He's practicing social distancing the best he can for now. If he has to go out of work, we'll be okay for a little bit as long as he qualifies for unemployment, but it's still really stressful.
I think my dogs are already sick of us being home, we're clearly interrupting their napping schedule.
The tree guy that no showed the first two times he was supposed to come cut down our trees, but did eventually show up, has now no-showed the last 3 times he was supposed to be here to grind the stumps. He's also now not returning my calls. It's a job that can be done with zero contact, but I guess at this point I just need to move on. Do I warn him that I'm going to put a negative review about him on his business page on Facebook? Because he sucks and clearly I'm too nice.

I’m trying to donate blood and it’s a shit show. They are not prepared and we are squeezed in like sardines. I’m very unhappy. I should just leave but it took me 20 minutes to get here.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

Nevada has officially shut down for 30 days. All gaming shut down at midnight last night and all the casinos on the strip literally boarded up their doors last night. It’s eerie out here.
We’re still waiting to hear whether H’s job is considered essential or not.

This is concerning to me as I’m about to leave the house to donate platelets. That’s usually less crowded tho because it takes longer. I’m planning on asking when I get there if they’d rather have blood.
How much longer do you think it'll be before the order comes that all non-essential business shut down? That's the only thing that is going to get the owner of the company I work for to open his eyes to what's going on.
Also, Trump is calling this the "Chinese Virus" and it's been causing me so much anxiety and rage. I cannot believe this is real life.
Our school finally sent a notice out this morning that spring break will be extended for another week. They are on spring break currently. As of right now, kids need to be back March 30th. The letter did say that the Governor is expected to make an announcement on Friday regarding schools so that may end up being longer. They are currently in town with the grandparents so H and I need to decide if we want to bring them back here with us or let them stay there a bit longer.
Xh (dd's sperm donor) was arrested on Sunday for aggravated assault on a pregnant woman (his gf who is carrying his baby that is due in 3 weeks) and domestic battery. So that's fun.

I swear to god if Sheldon ducking Adelson get one damn penny of bailout money someone’s going to have to come and ... straight jacket me. Put it into the workers’ pockets, not your donors’.
It is impossible for me to focus with two young kids at home. omg. We really just need to do a forced quarantine and shut every damn thing down. Have police in the streets forcing people to stay in their homes. If we did that, we could stop this whole thing from spreading and move on with our lives. I'm so stressed out that this is the way it's going to be for months and I cannot deal.

It’s bound to happen.
I will say that so far, most of the casinos are taking care of their employees, thankfully. I will likely avoid a couple from here on out though because they weren’t going to close without an order from the state and that just pisses me tf off.

It was a bus location and not brick and mortar so maybe other places won’t be as bad. I had to leave because I had been there for an hour and 15 minutes and they couldn’t even tell me when they could see me. They just look like deer in headlights as though this was completely unplanned even though it was advertised on Facebook for several days.

It's DS's birthday, which is both awesome because he now has a bunch of new things to do/play with, but also sad because he was so excited to take treats to school today and have his party on Saturday and those are of course no-gos now.
I've had two days in a row of non-stop phone/video conferences and it's killing my soul. Ugh.

I have had two colds in the last 2 months and thought I had just a lingering cough. However, the cough kicked up over the weekend and yesterday the cough started to feel different and now I am just feeling shaky and weird. I have taken acetaminophen and vitamin C. If I feel worse tomorrow I will have to call my doctor. I have not seen a single soul besides DH since Friday night so I guess that is good.
I am supposed to resume my classes tomorrow (online). I hope I will have enough energy!
I read the CDC website and know that I am supposed to clean all the surfaces I come into contact with, should sleep in a separate room from DH etc. It feels a bit overwhelming right now. Any tips/advice?
Anyone in SLC here and are you okay after the earthquake? We have an office there and they ran outside because they thought the roof would cave in. Luckily none of the $$$ lab equipement was damaged as far as they know. My husband's company has a location there and he sent me pics of all the broken glass in their warehouse

I’m a teacher but we aren’t doing distance learning until at least March 31 if the governor extends the shut down. This week is being treated like an extra spring break, so I’m trying to keep myself busy around the house. Yesterday it was sunny so I could do yard work and go for a walk. Today is raining though.
I think I’ll do laundry, tackle some long-needed decluttering and organizing and maybe do some coloring. Right now I am being super unproductive and watching 10 Things I Hate About You that is on tv.
It's only day 3 and I don't know how we are going to survive this. We definitely have to up our internet connection, and luckily we can borrow a laptop from DS's school. I was going to have them share but I quickly realized that's not going to work.
Two bright spots are that at least the weather is nice and I can wear pajamas all day LOL
I just want all of this to be over. I’m planning on trying to grocery shop after work today, but I’m concerned that they won’t have anything available. I never dreamed that I’d have to worry about whether I would be able to find toilet paper or meat. This doesn’t feel like real life.

I'm not there right now, but I checked in with my parents and sister and they're okay, though pretty freaked out. We're still waiting to hear from our realtor if there's any visible damage to the house we're supposed to close on next Monday.
I have maybe 2 weeks worth of diapers on hand and Costco's website has been sold out for a week and half (where I usually order). No local stores have any in stock. I'm debating if I should buy some from amazon for more than double the price I normally pay or hang tight and hope more come into stock soon.
jenny1223, I might wait through the weekend. I think more stock will keep coming in and by early next week hopefully stuff will start showing replenished. Also you may have better luck locally by then.
Ok it's 1:19pm and I haven't bought anything. My afternoon meeting got moved to tomorrow. I can get through today...

That's what I'm thinking too. Except I live in a rural area so I never have options locally anyway!! (Like I could pick up a pack of 25 diapers for $12 at the local grocery store which I'll do in a pinch but larger stores are an hour+ away.)

I’m irrationally annoyed by all these press conferences being held talking about social distancing while the speaker is surrounded by people within arms length.

My work is closed today. We just rc'vd word that starting tomorrow we work remotely as much as we can, but most of us dont have laptops or VPN. IT is working super hard on that, tried to get me a laptop when we went in yesterday, but as a union employee I couldn't get one because union hadn't discussed WFH yet. Sounds like we're to stay home next week too, maybe rotate someone going in since we cant do a lot of our literal paper work at home. I wasn't too nervous about the present until they said we're paid through 3/27, we have to wait for more detaila from The state after that. So in that case then send me in because like everyone else I have to get paid, and in the newest employee in the office, so probably first on the block for layoffs.
Going to breathe into a paper bag. I hope everyone else is holding up ok.
I had to go into work this morning to get some new employees started. It was kind of nerve wracking. I'm sure it was fine but having almost nobody there was a little eerie. I was able to leave by 10am and went to Trader Joes to get the last of the groceries we needed. I ended up spending another $160 so in reality I got a lot of stuff we didn't actually need, lol. But I didn't hoard anything and stuck to the "no more than 2 of any item" rule. I hope not to go to the store again for at least 1.5-2 weeks. I really cannot imagine we'd need anything. This also means that I probably won't leave the apartment again until next Wednesday when I have to do work orientation again. Which is so weird. Maybe I'll do a pickup order at a nearby restaurant, just to have an excuse to leave the house?
I did buy some pretty flowers at TJ's to brighten up being stuck indoors. We live in a downtown apartment so we don't have a yard or deck or anything to enjoy fresh air at home. We could go for a walk somewhere but it honestly makes me kind of nervous. There aren't too many places where there aren't people around, and if we happen to be somewhere with nobody around, I end up feeling anxious about being mugged since nobody is around to witness. So I will likely just stay indoors.

I've seen a few people comment on stuff like this, and honestly - I don't think this is how it works with most professional jobs. If you are, for example, working on a factory floor and everyone in the factory does the same job - then yes, the last person hired will be the first fired. But if you're doing a job where work needs to be done and you're the only one assigned to that job - unless they decide your job function is no longer essential for the business, they aren't going to cut you just for that. If they need to reduce headcount, they'll see which jobs and job duties are least essential and make decisions based on what work can be eliminated.
