I was unable to change the channel fast enough so I had to hear Trump call it Chinese Virus. DH just asked if I was okay because I was screaming fuck you at the TV. Racist POS. Ugh. This is why I never listen to him talk.
Yesterday the governor closed non essential services until April 30th. Someone on my nextdoor posted something about how she doesn't know many people who can go 3 months without getting a haircut, and am so frustrated. Not cutting your hair means literally doing nothing! It may be frustrating or annoying to people but literally everyone CAN do it.
I am worried about my 80’yr old grandma. She has gone to the hairdresser once a week for forever. She no longer has the hand strength to even wash her hair. She is going today, trying to mentally prepare for this to be the last one for a while but can’t even comprehend how to not go to the salon.
If you can eat nuts and have any around, there’s lots of excellent ***but based cheese*** recipes! Happy to share some of my easy faves if anyone is interested!
I’ve also seen versions with various veggies like butternut squash and carrots.
I never thought I would say this, but being vegan has helped me be a much more creative cook, and has been super useful during this uncertain time!
...snicker... I'm sorry. It made me laugh and I want to share laughter right now ETA: I actually do have a lot of nuts in the house right now and would love some nut cheese recipes/techniques
Lol whoops!!
Also for those needing milk for cereal and stuff, if you do go to the store again or get a delivery, consider shelf stable almond, rice, or hemp milks - they can also be used for baking, and you can stock up (you can also make your own, which can be a fun activity if you and yours are bored). I usually buy refrigerated cashew milk (silk brand), but grabbed a couple of boxes of the almond milk that is usually hanging out by the cereals and/or shelf stable juices just in case we can’t get back to the store soon enough.
On a food anxiety note, as I was still making our smoothies for breakfast, H grabbed a box of Mac n cheese and was like, “I was thinking I would make this today -grin-.” And I had to explain that that Mac n cheese is for when we run out of everything else and that I’m over here busting my ass to make fresh meals with good ingredients, and making huge batches, and he wants to dip into our reserve foods?!?! Nah bro.
I'm annoyed that we don't have a secondary freezer. Partially because I want ice cream but can't justify giving up the space that would otherwise be taken up by regular meals.
SwimDeep, this one is a fave - if you don’t have nutritional yeast (I don’t expect you to unless you are veggie/vegan) you could make it without - it does give it a cheesy flavor, but you can mess around with other spices to get the flavor you like. Also, nutritional yeast was still in stock at my store, and amazon may still have it in stock (Bobs red milk makes some).
I am not even sure why I am listening to this press conferences. Just a bunch of them patting themselves on the back. You can clearly see their agenda. Especially going on about closing the borders and basically blaming immigrants on the spread of the virus. How about you go blame the American people who give no fucks about anybody but themselves.
I'm working on making freezer meals and having to remind myself NOT to cook them until I've used up other meats and ingredients. DH is working from home starting tomorrow, which should make the house full-on chaos, particularly with this foster dog. She is afraid of the crate, so is sleeping with us. It's less fun than that sounds. Between her and DH's snoring, last night was not a fun night.
Someone from our church sent out an email that he thinks he has coronavirus, to warn those he was in contact with a week or so ago. From what I could see, though, he's not going to get tested, just self-quarantining.
Just last night, I was making Mac and cheese, thinking about how it’s only a matter of time until I run out of milk and have to make it like I did in college (because we never had milk in the tiny dorm fridge) - no milk, just extra butter and water. 🤢
You had butter? But not milk? ... This is blowing my mind because I keep all my butter cold. Yes, milk takes up more space, but... how much butter did y'all go through?
I was actually thinking about picking up some powdered milk today for shelf stable reasons. But I had to eat that growing up on cereal. And the baked goods we tried to make from it weren't great (granted, there were other factors involved). And anyway I can't find it. *shrug*
This also has me thinking about all those college experiences I missed because I was a commuter
None of the girls I lived with drank milk. On the rare occasion one of us would buy some for cereal, it always expired before it was finished. We kept butter around for things like toast, sandwiches, and rice. There were times we didn’t have milk or butter, and had to deal with just adding water (back in the days before Easy Mac).
We got my husband's scrubs from Amazon!!! I'm really happy that he's no longer eating street clothes to work.
I know these are sparse times, but I guess he needs fiber 😂🤣
this presser is killing me. I can’t believe I am still listening. ”what do you say to the Americans that are scared?” ”I say you are a nasty reporter!”

I basically got laid off last night. Now I'm waiting to hear back from the staffing agency about what to do next. I really don't need any more $ related stress right now.
Living with an extrovert who has a constant need to talk and make noise is going to drive me batty. I don't need constant stimulation or social interaction and my dad is the same way. I am perfectly happy to go 6+ days without seeing or speaking to another human. My mother cannot do this. I've been up for 2 hours and she's already driving me nuts with her incessant chatter and need to make noise

My county has been in a shelter in place since Monday. I was doing ok until I went to the grocery store, seeing the empty shelves and signs limiting the amount of bread/milk/eggs you could buy sent my anxiety through the roof.
I am having a major frustration with fucking horders. My SIL is a ER (7-7) nurse and basically has to completely get naked as soon as she gets home and wipe down everything she touches just to not expose her family. Luckily she was able to find one bottle of lysol today. I told her to tell me when she needs things. I will make sure she gets it even if I have to barter to get it. She is also telling me stories of the stupid people who keep showing up to the ER and not being clear with their travel history. People are only thinking of other countries and not the US hot spots. I am just alarmed with the pure stupidity of the American people at this point.

My dad went to the grocery store at 6 AM this morning during the senior-only hour and said it was busier than it was on Saturday afternoon.
I am just worried about my parents. My mom works in healthcare and they will not be going WFH. She is not a nurse or doctor; she works in an admin office, but the hospital's POV is, as long as our doctors and nurses are here, you are all here as well. They have started temping everyone upon entering the hospital and have gone to heightened restrictions on visitors.
My dad's job could be done from home, and I hope his company soon requires that, because he will not make that choice on his own. UGH. AND my grandma, I found out after the fact, when to get her hair done. I am so frustrated. She is 85 years old; her husband (my grandpa) is 91 and not in good health. I feel like DH and I are the only ones taking this super seriously in my family. Whenever I talk to my mom and tell her all these things, she tells me to stop being doom and gloom and making her depressed.
That press conference was disgusting. I only heard bits and pieces of it and then ended up turning it off.
That was probably a good idea. It’s just getting worse and worse. He’s going on a rant blaming the Obama administration right now. Said he inherited and obsolete system. Apparently he’s fixed it now and now the system is great. He’s a total piece of shit. November can’t get here fast enough.

I'm sure it's been mentioned several times already, but I don't think one more will hurt. Check for local farmers markets and CSAs. Most of our local farmers and bakers are taking preorders, packaging them, and bringing them to market for easy pick up. Others are actually offering delivery. We're trying to stock up and freeze now to avoid going to the grocery store.
A few of our local markets have fought to be considered "essential" services so they can stay open. So far, it's working. One local guy said he was actually able to *hire* someone today because preorders and farmers markets have been a solid, steady source of business even when his restaurant customers have been buying much less. And a local brewer said their delivery service meant they could rehire a few of their staff.
Despite everything, I'm so happy to see this community rally around its small businesses as much as they have. I hope its happening elsewhere as well.
I ranted several times yesterday that my sister and her BFF decided to fly to a beach town because they’ve got “nothing else going on.” I was just texting my mom and it came home, and my mom said they went because “BFF’s mom is a nurse and said it was safe.”
What. The. Fuck. Guys.
And Sis lives with our mom, who is in good health but she’s 65. I asked my Mom if Sis plans to stay with the BFF or her boyfriend when she gets home, or at least confine herself to the second floor of the house away from our mom, and Mom just said “idk I never know her plans.” RAGE.
SwimDeep I was also a commuter. Ultimately I had a good college experience but I wonder what a dorm experience would’ve been like.
