Rumors are that here in Florida we'll soon be ordered to shelter in place. About time, if you ask me. The beaches are more crowded on a daily basis than they are on a typical summer weekend. And it's not just people here for spring break. My area isn't a spring break destination (too cold), but the beaches have still been packed. The local mayors were begging people to stop going, but as of 5pm today the beaches will be closed, and anyone caught on the beach will be given a trespassing citation. They also (finally) said restaurants have to be take out only.
I need to figure out how to do my own eyebrows. They were already looking like the Amazon jungle before isolation so I regret not going anytime recently to get them trimmed and shaped.
I am also trying to figure out what I should do with my eyebrows (and upper lip for that matter). When I get waxed it hurts for like 4 seconds and then it’s over. But tweezing hurts over and over again! And I can’t tweeze my lip. I don’t trust myself with DIY wax. Maybe I’ll make my H watch a YouTube video? He’s very precise lol.

The official shelter-in-place in IL order got delivered, starting 5 PM tomorrow and lasting until at least April 7.
My mom started crying on the phone because she can't visit me on my birthday this Sunday. I feel awful about it too, but it is what it is. So now I am scarfing down some Peanut M&Ms and am considering having a cocktail soon (it's not even 4 PM here. Oh well lol).

Is anyone else hearing rumblings from people who were sick in November or December saying they had the exact symptoms of Covid-19 and they probably already had it, and thus concluding that everyone needs to chill out? In the last day or two I've started hearing this from the same lovelies who two weeks ago "weren't concerned" or "it's a hoax." I apologise if this has been addressed somewhere, but it sounds like some more maga crap, but I can't figure out where it's coming from.
I don't know why, but it just clicked now that my shoulder won't be fixed for a while. It's been hurting so bad for a months now, and I was finally seeing the light of the tunnel. I need to have a pity party about this, and then move on.

It is likely that it was in the US in December and certainly by January. Since most cases are mild and even really bad cases may have been misdiagnosed I think it fits into a mainstream narrative that we were perhaps missing early warnings.
But the its a hoax, it isn't as bad, etc is very much alive in part because of the early messaging around this on Fox and/or by the administration. But bottom line is that people don't want to believe this is as bad as it is and don't want to pay the costs we're paying (huge economic burden). It is not just the US. Parts of Europe were very slow to act as well.

It's so frustrating and pity party worthy, imo. I cried when my neuro appointment got moved because of COVID.

Yeah I do think it's been here for longer than we realized. I'm sure some people have had it and not known obviously. However, no that doesn't mean people need to chill out. My SO is convinced he had it (I just politely say ok even though I don't think so ha), but he's actually being more careful then ever and has told all his friends who even hinted at thinking this was a joke to get it together and take this seriously.

I'm sure they had a virus of some sorts but COVID at that point seems unlikely because of we would have peaked with China instead of starting now.
I think someone here had an article that mentioned how people are misinterpreting what a "mild" case of COVID is; most non-medical people seem to think of mild as it being a mild cold. But what they really mean by "mild" is that you don't need medical intervention and critical is where you need intubation. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about?

Yes. From my dad who has paranoid schizophrenia and spouts QAnon level conspiracy bullshit (despite not having access to the internet). He also lives in bumblefuck Missouri and there’s no way he was exposed, even second or third hand, to a disease that originated in China just weeks after it emerged.
It's only been a couple of weeks and I'm already finding that my anxiety spikes when I'm watching a TV show and there is a large crowd where people aren't practicing social distancing. I'm like NOOOOOOOOOOOO GET AWAY. Ugh. Kind of a petty example, but it really makes me wonder how our long-term emotional health is going to be impacted by all of this.
Me last night while watching Greys Anatomy and they held hands and formed a circle. STOP IT! STOP IT RIGHT NOW PEOPLE!
Oooh, maybe you can answer this. I stopped watching greys when Christina left. If I wanted to catchup on quarrentine a) is it with it, b) what season did Christina leave/which one do I start with and c) is it streaming somewhere? Netflix, hulu, (already checked amazon, Netflix wouldn’t load last night)

Yes, I’ve heard this from several people. Some of them, I DO recall talking about feeling oddly sick, but yet most are people who were initially downplaying things.
I’m sure it was here before the first diagnosed case, but unidentified viruses are common. It’s often what keeps me from going to the doctor. I figure they’re just going to tell me, “It’s a virus. Go home and treat the symptoms.”
I’m not sure where the intersection of “just a virus” and “COVID19 pre-identification” is. I’m guessing we will never know.

Yes, I've seen a few articles that say if oxygen isn't needed, it's considered mild. NYT a few weeks ago, IIRC.

Any ideas on how I can support MH? He is beyond stressed about continuing to work (food route delivery). He is in and out of multiple grocery stores daily stocking shelves. He’s working 16+ hour days trying to meet demand and he’s super concerned about bringing the virus home. Right now, I’m trying to take as much burden off of him as I can at home and wash his uniforms, etc daily but our personalities are so different. He’s more emotional and anxious than I am. Anything that has been helpful for you all that I can do?

That was from the WHO team who went to China to learn what they could about the disease.

We setup a system for DH when he comes home that has eased some of his worries. He goes down to his boxers in the garage and everything is immediately going into the washing machine or in a trash bag for him to wash when we have a full enough load. I move it from the washer to the dryer and fold for him. He goes straight into the shower from there. I prep his food and a drink (usually non-alcoholic but we're going to be there soon enough with needing the good stuff) while he rinses off. That way he comes home directly to food which seems to make him a lot more tolerable to be around.
I was making dinner and took my nearly full Costco glass bottle of olive oil out of the pantry as I thought to myself, “whenever I go shopping next should I get an extra bottle of oil, even though this one is going to last me quite a while?”
And then of course the bottle slipped from my hand and smashed on the floor. And I very nearly screamed.
People are anecdotally reporting strange viruses in Jan/ Feb. Who knows what it actually was. Many got tested for flu and strep and were negative. These were like 2-4 weeks of fever, 2 weeks of chills etc. DH had one similar bug lots of snot which isn’t common, so I don’t think that was it. Then of course we all have colds but again just in the nose, so doesn’t fit the symptoms of covid- 19.

For all those thinking they’ve had Covid this winter they probably had Influenza B. My Mom said Influenza B made a big resurgence this year (which is odd) and really cycled through the population. If you had your flu shot it was fairly mild, like you wouldn’t go see about Tamiflu, but it did have a good chest congestion component. It went through my whole family starting with my Mom who is a virologist and who said that’s what we all had.
We started off with a weird flu season according to her, so Covid is a pile of crap to toss on top.
Yup, we all had influenza B late in December. We were taking a trip to Hawaii (I’m glad we did that before this all hit), so we all took Tamiflu some because they tested positive and some of us as a preventative. Those that tested positive had been fever free for quite a few days before flying.

I’m really sorry to both of you. I totally relate - my spinal issues are so far off my radar of things to worry about right now but at the same time it really hurts. It sucks. 😞

Yeah, of course there are people who had symptoms similar to COVID-19 in November and December. We've had 19,000 people test negative for it in Washington state so far. So we obviously currently have thousands of people who don't have it but have something with similar enough symptoms for doctors to recommend testing. There are a lot of random viruses out there!
I am so anxious that I'm not eating enough. I really would like a beer, but it would get me loopy and sick at this point. I'm waiting for dinner to cook impatiently.

Yes. What medical personnel consider "mild" is different from what laypeople consider mild. Medically, a "mild" respiratory infection is one that doesn't require oxygen. So you could be febrile, exhausted, and feel like you're coughing up razor blades, but if your O2 sat is normal, it's "mild." Need O2 and IV fluids? Moderate.

Have you asked him what he needs? My SO typically does most of the cooking, but he's being super helpful with it now, so that's really appreciated.
My main thing is telling him I don't want to talk/hear about the damn virus. I feel bad since he's home all day and I know he likes to read/research stuff so I know he's looking at the news and just wants to share stuff with me. But no I don't want to hear about the latest death toll or really anything about the virus. Thankfully today he's been busy working on a project so he hasn't really brought it up, but I have told him he can tell me one thing and then other than that we're going to talk about the stuff we normally talk about.

Those people are morons to be all "yeah, I had it, I have no proof. I do what I want" Dangerous morons.
I'm in the country with the first confirmed case outside US. Due to lunar new year I was in large crowds with many Chinese tourists, and there is an exceedingly remote chance I was exposed and have since recovered. This was long before social distancing and self quarantine although they were just starting some temp scans and hand sanitizer points in limited locations. Because I had a really long cough (onset in the right time frame after travel and new year) and shit air I isolated even more so than normal, and I normally isolate quite a bit. This long term cough happened last year at the same time of year, too, and both times it quickly cleared once I traveled to clean air within a few days. Hello, Occam's razor.
I'll continue to follow the guidelines as they develop because I'm not stupid, and I don't wish to harm others.
