You don’t select a time. IME they fill it within 4 hours and let you know through an email and also an app notification when it’s ready. They hold it for a few days for you too.
Eta: you’ll go into the app and hit the “I’m on my way” button. When I get there and have the app open, it automatically reads that I’m there and I input the color and body style of my car (I only had to do that the first time as I use the same car every time for pick up)

They alert you when it's ready, and then you let them know when you are on your way. If you are doing the drive up, they'll ask the color and type of your car and to hit a button telling them you are there when you get there.
I've never had my orders take more than 2 hours to be ready.

Awesome! I was hoping it was a little quicker than week+ out that I'm seeing at other places. I know when I've done in store pick up before it was pretty quick, wasn't sure if it was still the same.
Don't be like me and order online instead of from the app. I had to actually go in the store to get my stuff!
Luckily, nobody was in there and the lady brought my stuff to my car anyway. But I agree, it was about an hour before it was ready - and I was surprised to get no substitutions. Except my laundry detergent leaked all over the bag.
The drive up option is only available in the app. If you place on order through a web browser, you will only get the option for in-store pick up that you get at the service desk. You’ll get a notification when the order is ready and you can go whenever is convenient. There will be a parking section with a couple designated drive up pick up parking spots. Park there and hit the button in the app that you are there to pick it up. You have to have the device with the app with you when you drive up to notify them you are there. If you forget your phone or it dies, you’ll need to go to the service desk and pick up the items with an ID.

Thanks!
Just a heads up if you’re looking at getting groceries, ours will add some dry and canned goods but the selection is weird (like I might be able to get cool ranch Doritos but not nacho...just weird things they don’t make sense) and no cold items. I don’t know if super targets with full grocery areas offer that or not.

Target doesn't offer perishable items for pickup. That's why there isn't a scheduled pick-up time.
I love Target drive up pick up! Mine doesn’t do perishables either, but our Walmart and other local store never has any pick up slots available. You used to have to digitally sign their phone upon pickup, but they stopped that a few weeks ago. I open my trunk, show them my phone though the window so they can scan it, and that’s it.

Yeah I'm good on actual groceries. This was more stuff that we are running low on for cleaning and such.

You can get Target perishables through Shipt. I don't have it though, I use Target for pantry/shelf stable items. I use Walmart drive up but have to wait 6 days from order to pick up and in that time there's a lot that's not available.

I ordered some stuff for my home office and it was amazing. Ordered and just parked when it was ready - they came out with it and I didn't have to touch/sign anything. I feel like this could be very dangerous for my wallet!
Just an fyi, perishable pick up was launched today in select markets and will be expanding as the weeks go by.
I hope it goes smoothly for Target! That would be a big help for a lot of people, and help reduce the wait times at other places that allow grocery pickup.
I'm so glad I read this post, as I almost did it through the web and not the app!
It’s really not clear at all - I feel like the website should at least say “hey drive up is an option in the app.” Beyond that, I really, really wish the drive up were an option on the website. I wonder if it’s not available on the website because they really want you to use the app generally? Or is it because you need the app to let them know that you’re there for drive up, so that’s why they make you use the app to set it up? I shop on the target website, add everything to my cart, then go over to the app, and change the delivery method for each item. It’s a drag.
My Target doesn't offer it! NO wonder I never see anyone doing it- I now see what the pretty signs and stuff are supposed to look like from googling. HA! It stinks though. They had started to shift the parking lot and stuff and then stopped.

Yes you need the app so that we know when you arrive.

But couldn't you order drive up via the website, then still use the app when you arrive? Or is the concern that people wouldn't have the app that way?
I’ll have to look into this more. There’s a Target on the way home from work that I could easily stop at to do curbside if we need a few things. I know they do it — I’ve seen them bring stuff out to the designated spots before — but on the app it doesn’t look like much is available for pickup!
I do in store pickup so that the drive up option is more available to people who really need it - mobility issues, health concerns, whatever. It's good when need to grab a couple of perishables like dairy products, fruit, meat. I grab a basket, beeline for those aisles, do self checkout, then hit the customer service desk on my way out.

Exactly. We have hand held devices that signal when you arrive. If people didn't have the app, the only other way to know people have arrived is by a phone call and no one has time the that.

I did drive up for the first time for easter basket supplies. It was awesome. There was no one else there.
I know more people.than you'd think who do not have smart phones, so I cant blame target for forcing pepple to use the app to ensure that they have the right technology to use the service.
I do wish that I could have universally changed all my items to drive up at once rather than update one at a time. But maybe there is a way and I just didnt see it.
