I judge people who have outside only pets. I think it's mean and they shouldn't have pets at all.
Me too. What's the point? It's dangerous for cats and dogs to be outside unattended. I found this article the other day, where a researcher attached cameras to outdoor cats. People have NO idea how far their cats go and the dangerous situations they can get into.
I wish they showed more footage or drew more conclusions from it. So gross to see the frog and mouse hanging out of the cat's mouth!
Being a SAHM is not a job, and I do not at all feel sorry for you. Even if you are staying home due to finances (cost of child care), the ability to SAH is a luxury.
Yes, we all have bad days, and those are acceptable complaints. However, the "it's a 24/7" job statements are just crap. Do you know how bad working moms must have it? Do you? I'm not a mom, so I can only imagine the weight of working and being a parent.
Obv not directed at the vast majority of SAHMs on this board. Or any that come to mind, in fact.
It is a 24/7 job. I don't get sick days. When I have a headache or didnt get any sleep because my dog was up shitting his brains all night. However I do realize how incredibly lucky I am. Because im able to do what I can during the day we get to spend a lot more time together as a family. I give working parents props. I don't know how I'd get everything done if I wasn't SAH.

But why can't you hire a sitter like working parents would if they were sick and stayed home from work? You can, you just choose not to. As a childless person, I will never understand this logic. You have a spouse, so it should be 12/7 job.
For those who really want an unpopular opinion, I hate comedians who stop a show to have everyone clap for the firefighters and police and call them all heroes. I appreciate both jobs very much and wouldn't do either myself, but I don't think it makes them all heroes.

The ability to call a sitter the morning of, and book them to watch your kid(s) all day, the morning you wake up sick is not nearly as easy as you think. Working parents stay home sick without kids because they already have childcare set up.

I think SAHP really overestimate how easy it is to call in sick and just relax. I've taken 2 sick days in 5 years where I wasn't stuck working at least part of the day at home. If I was a SAHP and I was truly that sick, my partner would call in sick to watch the kids. The same way one of us would call have to call in if we both worked and had a sick kid.

Word.
I haven't taken a sick day since I had brain surgery. Even then - I felt inundated with "Can you do X when you're up to it?" type emails.
Do you guys want cookies? I don't mind being a sahm. I dare say I enjoy it. Most days. But if you don't have kids and you don't sah, you have no idea wtf you're talking about.
I have not stayed home from work sick once since having my first child almost 5 years ago. It is hard enough to take time off every time my kids are sick. Staying home without a kid with me is not going to happen.
While I certainly agree that parenting is hard, I actually find the days that I am home with my kids to be much easier than my job. I though maternity leave felt like a total vacation.

Yes, I know, when I'm a mom, I'll finally understand.

Having a child is a choice. You know what you are getting yourself into. I hate when parents complain and act like martyrs about their lives and compare it to your easy life. Your choice.

I don't think we do. The vast majority of SAHP had careers or fulltime jobs prior to children. We remember what it was like. And quite honestly, it was much easier to suffer through the sickness on a normal day at work than at home with kids. Both my husband (currently working and never logs off work for sick or vacation) and I agree about this.

I don't think most parents really know what they've gotten themselves into. Doesnt mean its bad (or good), but still. I side eye that comment.
I think eating animals AND animal by products is disgusting and financially irresponsible. Meat is an expensive meal in nature, but the entitlement factor of most western people makes them think they deserve to eat meat three times a day, seven days a week. That's why the quality of the food is so low and everyone is sick all the time.
If people ate the healthiest food they could afford, the vast majority of Americans would be eating beans and rice and not plugging up the healthcare system with obesity and other diet-related diseases.
Beans and starches are cheap. Eat them, save money and quick being such a nation of sick, fat people.
Ok, I had to respond to this. Yes, meat can be expensive if you choose to purchase fine cuts of meat. However, even cheaper cuts of meat have a high quality. Also, the nutrients in a 3 oz serving of lean beef are high, and it only contains 115 calories. There is much more to the obseity problem in the US than meat.
I thought of this because of ijack's post about her friend having 6/almost 7 kids.
I honestly think people shouldn't have more than 2 or 3 kids MAX. I seriously side-eye people with more than 3 kids. Why would anyone just want to push out babies for 10 years?
Dude, I didn't sound like a martyr did I? That's the worst. And it certainly wasn't my intention.
I don't think you were talking to me, lol, but in any event, we're cool too. I don't even care if people complain. Everyone has crap to complain about.
I think we should not call being a SAHM a luxury since some people have no skills to get a job that makes enough money to pay for daycare. And being a SAHM is not a state of being that is superior to being a working mother. For the family or the children. Both have challenges. And some women deal better with one or the other or would excel and suck at both.
And TV is not the devil. Not nurturing your child is the crime.

Yep, beans would solve the obesity problem. I judge people who are stupid.

Our world is overpopulated as it is.
You should be happy with the over-populators ... otherwise there will be no social security when you are old.
I would vote for any candidate who said we needed to make serious cuts to Social Security and the military and proposed a plan for doing so, even if I disagreed with all their other opinons.
See, I agreed with you on whole marriage shouldn't be a government issue. I've long thought that the best solution to the whole gay marriage issue is to rename legal marriages to civil unions and let anyone get them (if you want to get married, that's between you and your pastor/rabbi/God/friends/etc).
However I can't agree with you having a flat tax. I do think that the tax code should be simplified, get rid of most or all deductions, etc, but I also think that if you're making a large amount of money, you should pay a higher percentage than someone below the poverty line.
Also, can you define "cuts" to Social Security? I would potentially support opting out of the system for those still contributing (young people like me who have no faith we'll ever see that money again), but it's not okay to take away money that was promised to those closer to retirement.
And yes, cut the military budget, we don't need to go to war on the other side of the world or develop more WMDs, etc.
I think people who breastfeed their child past the age of one year are creepy. Yes, I know what the WHO states. I don't care.
I'm guessing you don't have children. I only breastfed my son for 6 months but I don't see how there is anything creepy about breastfeeding a 1 year old. 1 year olds are still little babies. Now if you said a 4 year old like the kid on the cover of time I would totally agree with you.
I'm on team go big or go home. 0 or 3+ were my options. At least one out of three will come home for thanksgiving right? Riiight???
The more kids, the better your chances
You know what's weird? I love seeing big families on TV or movies. I know it's not real life but a big family home for the holidays seems so wonderful. But then I got to Target and see parents with 5 kids under the age of 7 and I think "WTF are you doing?" Too bad TV isn't real life
But…I only want one so I think my holidays will be…quiet.

I see moms walking around Target with 4+ kis regularly. They are almost always well behaved.
I think WTF am I doing wrong. I dread taking my kids with me into target and I'm an uptight bitch while we are there, reprimanding them for the slightest twitch of the arm.
