Definitely volunteer! Even if you don’t get your vaccine (you should), it was so much fun and felt so good!
Everybody I gave a shot to was so happy and appreciative and relieved. I walked out feeling like it was a great experience!
That’s what convinced me! I saw a NYT article about how joyous of an experience it has been for people, and that combined with the fact that they haven’t had any cases traced to previous clinics in my area made me feel like I should take the plunge.
It’s a ton of fun! I’ve been four different times now and I’m driving an hour one way to do it because I couldn’t get signed up in my county. I’m going again for sure next weekend (and will get my second dose!) and will keep going as much as I can. I’m “only” helping getting people signed in and checking paperwork, but it’s still great!
I am not eligible yet but all the people in my life that live here in Texas that are eligible are fully vaccinated. Hospitals are even moving down to the next age group of 55+. Rollout here in Houston started out terrible but has really ramped up. I think at this point I will be eligible by April.
Different story in Florida. None of my eligible family has been able to find anything.

Just got home from getting our (H and I) first doses! We were able to get on the waitlist for leftover vaccine at the end of the day. I sobbed happy tears when we both got in.

I will say that even though I’m not eligible and won’t be for a while, I’m getting less annoyed with it. The numbers are dropping which means I’m safer by default. Still not going to go out and do keg stands, but I’m less worried so I’ll just keep waiting until I’m eligible.
Except those assholes that cut the line by lying or cheating. They can fuck right off. 😂
I got my first dose yesterday and MH and my mom go tomorrow morning! I don't know how we all got on the list, but I'm so relieved. We just need to get my dad's, but he's working in China right now, so it'll probably be a while between him finishing up his job, getting home, and his 14 day quarantine. I had a bit of a reaction but am feeling better about 24 hours later...it makes me a little worried for my second dose, but it'll be worth it.
I cried off and off from the second I got the text for my appointment until I got home from getting it. I'm just so grateful.
@@@@ My DD has some medical issues and it's been my biggest concern that DH and I would both get covid at the same time and be unable to care for her. I know there's still a possibility that it can be transmitted, so we're not changing our day-to-day, but just knowing that we'll still be well enough to take care of her if we get exposed is HUGE for us.

SS.
I'm in a vaccine trial, so maybe. I can unblind myself when I'm eligible for a vaccine, or if they get EUA, they'll unblind the placebo group and give them a vaccine.
Based on the new guidelines MN rolled out yesterday, it's looking like I'll be eligible May-ish.

I’m having my second dose on Monday. I would not otherwise be eligible yet in MA based on age and health, but was able to receive it through the health care organization my practice is affiliated with. It’s been tough even for those eligible to get it scheduled online so I was fortunate to get my mom and aunt scheduled through someone who knew about extra doses that needed to be used up and they were able to get there on short notice.
I am technically eligible due to weight as of yesterday, but I feel weird about getting it since I feel like my excessive quarantine snacking should not jump me in line (I do have other health issues like high BP, but that is not listed as a qualifying condition).
I think I’ll give it a few more weeks to let the elderly get their vaccines since many are still having trouble scheduling, and then I’ll see if any appointments are available.
I think this is because we've all been receiving the message for our whole lives that being overweight is our fault. Even if that's technically true (because yes, I likely wouldn't be overweight if I had a perfect diet and exercised as much as the recommendations say - I don't have a diagnosed condition that should make me overweight), our society hasn't exactly made it easy to do those things perfectly. Being obese puts you at higher risk of death. Regardless of how or why you got there, you're still high risk.
I am getting my first vaccine Tuesday. I am getting it because my state is allowing those in higher ed in this phase, but if that wasn't the case I'd sign up as soon as they allowed those with high risk conditions to sign up - because I too am obese.
It's crazy how different it must be state to state. In my state, it's still only healthcare workers and 65+. I think they just opened up for teachers this week. Based on the responses here, I'm guessing other states must have opened up to a lot more groups.
I received mine yesterday as I work in education. I think CA is doing pretty well. All of my education friends have started the process or have on scheduled in the next 2 weeks.
I wanted to hug the lady that administered my shot. I didn’t but I was so happy and nearly cried. I held it together though.
It’s been so hard. I ranted a bit in the general COVID thread. It’s so frustrating.
One of my friend’s has had pretty good luck getting people signed up. (As she put it, she’s got experience booking a yurt at Ft Stevens in July, on a weekend.) Her advice: She’s had luck at Safeway.com, just checking random locations throughout the day. She’s also gotten some for the convention center through the OHA site. Since the Legacy site is throttled, once you get in, wait down the clock, refresh and wait again, things pop up. She says right now Safeway is less of a wait.
Yeah, I spent at least 8 hours this week trying to get my mom scheduled. She become eligible on Monday. I've had no luck anywhere, I think every new batch of eligibility just makes the process that much harder. I did see that the Legacy and OHSU sites are being shut off and the state will now contact you when an appointment is available.I didn't see how they'd determine the order people are contacted. Should be interesting
This was asked during the press conference, and they said they will draw people randomly. So, apparently not first come first serve to sign up on the website...

I’m a healthcare worker so I’ve been vaccinated for a while. My entire job is COVID-19 vaccine and I don’t think our state is doing a great job with it. We’re going to the next phase when we haven’t finished the last one and vaccine allocations aren’t enough to keep up either. Every time they add a new group, other people get pissed because they should be eligible before some other group. The amount of judgment I read from people about obese people being eligible was appalling today. People are disgusting.

Same, I've been amazed over the last couple of weeks at how many people here on the board have been able to get it.
In my state it's only healthcare workers and 70+ and they are not doing any pre-existing conditions. It opens to 60+ next week, and still no pre-existing conditions (it sounds like from the latest update they will not be considering pre-existing conditions at all and going only by age).

Man, what’s new? If people aren’t hating on fat people, they probably died.
My state just opened for some pre-existing conditions and health concerns, including obesity. I happily booked my appointment along with appointments for my fat family and fat friends and got my first shot today.
Maybe if I wasn’t treated like shit by almost every health professional and had every illness and malady blamed on my being fat, I might have waited, but that’s not how it goes.
The comment section can bite the fattest part of my ass!
I'm in the Novavax trial and got my 2nd dose on Wednesday. Based on my reaction to both doses, I'm 99.9% sure I got the vaccine. I'll be unblinded when they apply for EUA.
My Dad and MIL have gotten both doses and my Mom became eligible this week. I'm lucky that I live in a state that is handling the roll out pretty well (in the Top 10 of all states).
ETA: I didn't know you could get the vaccine by volunteering at a clinic. DH is going to look into doing that. Thanks to those that mentioned it!
My university told all the staff that we were all eligible yesterday and they set up 10 days of appointments for mass vaccinations for us so I just scheduled it for Sunday. I am so excited because I wasn’t expecting it until mid summer for us.

I've had both doses. I was the beneficiary of extra doses at the end of the night and desperate attempts to find people who could drop everything and get it. NY added more eligibility by the time my second dose was scheduled and I would otherwise have been eligible since 2/15.
There's been a huge increase in people getting it locally as a result, I've sensed. Many people at work have become eligible (we've been advocating for them to be eligible as a profession, but that hasn't happened yet). Almost every adult in my immediate family and DH's immediate family has gotten at least one dose, primarily due to profession or age.
I have had both doses. I work for the school district (not as a teacher, but I am still eligible). Oregon did school employees before old due to people wanting to get schools back open ASAP.
I’ve received both doses. I’m a public librarian and qualified as a municipal employee. Mine is the only county I know of in the state to include that group so early - I’m so thankful.
