I’m not sure I agree with the easing of restrictions in my state (Massachusetts). Now indoor performance venues can open with up to 500 people. Kinda picturing people drinking etc so they’d be maskless?! No more capacity limit at restaurants. Our numbers are on the sharp downturn which is great, but we’ve been here before.
I’ve noticed that traffic has really increased in the last week.
Does that mean more people are going back to work?
@@@@@@
More students in school and parents are driving?
I feel like as we hit the year mark people are trying to get back to some level of normalcy and this probably is a sign of that.
Also, it’s now March and I feel like something changed in my brain. I’ve gone from not socializing with anyone since October to thinking because spring is around the corner, it’s time to make plans to hang out with people in parks or zoos or stuff. I’m wondering if others are feeling the same way, especially with vaccinations increasing regardless of case numbers (which are still really high!).
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
From what I gather from the students, they are no longer social distancing at all. Movie theaters are opening, wedding restrictions lifted, full time students in classes.
I noticed the traffic was back to normal yesterday morning. I wondered what the heck changed - I suppose it is that people are getting vaccinated or that offices are slowly opening back up. I think I am home until at least until June though.
It is going to be ROUGH to go back to a normal schedule. I am starting to dread it already.

I saw that restaurants will have NO capacity limitations on the news yesterday and my jaw dropped. I’m so over Baker. People around me think the pandemic is over and it’s making me anxious and angry at the same time.

Now these decisions just seem political. NY is reopening a lot of things too but I figured Cuomo was just trying to distract from all the noise surrounding him. Interesting that less-scandalous governors are doing the same.

It also puts a lot of pressure on other New England states like mine to do the same, because our cases are lower than yours but we still have stricter restrictions. Our governor is getting A LOT of flak over that.

?
That’s interesting because this morning on the subway I had the exact opposite thought. It’s usually standing room only and today there were only 4-5 people on my car. I was like did no one decide to go to work today? I think within the next month though as the weather warms up it’s going to feel even more "normal" with people out and about, traveling, eating at restaurants, events, etc.
Traffic has been pretty much back to normal for awhile here. I noticed a big uptick in January.
I hope we can get most Americans vaccinated by June if not May. Summer is going to be a free for all. Even more so than it already is. Everyone is running out of patience. Then we need to concentrate on getting vaccines to poorer countries like Mexico or Jamaica.

Yup. And our numbers are sort of flattening out at around 1k per day. Over the past week, they rose 7% (per WaPo). And the vaccine rollout doesn’t seem to have gotten that much better. It all feels like putting the cart before the horse.

Our county just opened an additional 10,000 vaccine appts this week, so I signed DH and I up, we'll be fully vaxed by the end of the month. I struggled with whether I should sign up, while technically I'm eligible, its pretty borderline (couple of pounds puts me in the BMI category). However, our county is the highest vaccinated in the state and we've had pretty good appointment availability for a while now, which made me feel like I can use my eligibility. (a quick search I found 6000 appointments still available for this week)

Three people in the area I oversee for work all have covid right now. It doesn't sound like a lot, and they work in different buildings so they're not linked, but we've been very fortunate to have almost no cases at work before this despite working in one of the more hard-hit areas of the city in the fall and now suddenly things have changed a lot. I know anecdotes aren't evidence but now I'm really wondering about this NYC variant that's been reported.
Abbott announcing right now that he’s opening Texas 100%.
Edit: Still watching conference. People have been speculating he will remove the mask mandate too. I will be livid if he does.
Edit again: he fucking ended the mask mandate.
I mean it’s already open 100%?! Ugh I hate him!!! He’s been teasing this mask thing for awhile. Can he just wait until summer at least?? Ahhh. Apparently fucking not. I’m so mad.
Our county numbers have dropped to 3% from over 20% at the end of 2020. For now restrictions are in place thru end of March. I’d like to see them stand thru end of May at least. We only just moved to vaccinating phase 2. I am in phase 4 and husband is last, in phase 5.
I'm on the vaccination clinic volunteer email list for my county (although I can't volunteer for them right now b/c I still feel like I need to get more days in with the neighboring county that vaccinated me), and they just announced they set up a clinic at the fairgrounds to give the J&J vaccine on Saturday, so are recruiting volunteers for that. It looks like it'll be a big clinic based on the number of volunteer slots. I was so excited to see this!!!
Fuck that asshole. Even if the stores still require masks the fucking idiots will use this to empower their decision not to wear a mask. I am so thankful my parents, ILs, and me and DH have been vaccinated. Pissed off for those in my immediate household who have not yet been.
We are supposed to get vaccines in the country this week!!!! So exciting - finally!
And it is the third world helping the third world - we are getting doses from India and South Africa. And then from WHO. We are not getting any doses from the rich countries.
PDQ The vaccine plan for who gets was released this week and I am in the first phase so may be getting my first dose this month! I fall under the people needed for continuity of governance so that is awesome. WE are in the first group with healthcare workers. Then my parents will hopefully get next month in the second group when we are prioritising the elderly. We also dont have a huge elderly population so that makes it a bit easier.
Ugh another dismayed Texan here. This sucks for my husband especially, he works at Whole Foods and apparently they instituted an optional "health screening" for customers who don't want to wear a mask, they just check their temp and answer a couple questions and then they can come in the store without one 🤷♀️. I hope vaccine availability keeps going up quickly so he can get vaccinated soon.
I am so angry about Texas. So angry. It is irresponsbile and I think Abbott wants to try to distract from his responsiblities in the power failures from two weeks ago that killed several people.
H and I will be fully vaccinated by the end of the month and I was all excited to go out to dinner at a restaurant. Not anymore. Sigh.
I really do hope some companies will still enforce the mask rule. Especially Costco.
Me, too. I'm trying to find an article, but ND house passed a bill that would prohibit mask mandates. I thought I saw they would also prohibit private businesses from enforcing them as a requirement to entry, but I am not finding the fine print on that.
However, they would prohibit state and local officials and schools from requiring masks.
