Fuck that asshole. Even if the stores still require masks the fucking idiots will use this to empower their decision not to wear a mask. I am so thankful my parents, ILs, and me and DH have been vaccinated. Pissed off for those in my immediate household who have not yet been.
Iowa’s Governor did away with what little mask mandate we had several weeks ago. Our county still has one, but some people have a “you can’t actually make me” attitude and are now not wearing them. Some people wear them to get into stores and then take them off. They ALL walk around with a super smug look on their faces just begging for a fight. In our city, a majority still wear them in stores. I haven’t been anywhere else to know, but I do know that some churches are dropping their mask requirements (some never had them in the first place).
It sucks. I miss...everything...and the more people act like selfish idiots, the longer I’m destined to just sit in my house, waiting for a vaccine, and for numbers to drop.
Now these decisions just seem political. NY is reopening a lot of things too but I figured Cuomo was just trying to distract from all the noise surrounding him. Interesting that less-scandalous governors are doing the same.
It's not quite a scandal, but Baker has been getting shit for the terrible vaccine rollout here in MA - the state legislature made him testify as part of a hearing last week. I assume this is him playing to his base because he wants to either run for a third term or at least have some percentage of the population stop yelling at him. It's the dumbest possible timing because Feb. vacation numbers are still coming in, and fucking St. Patrick's day is around the corner, but that's what happens when you elect someone who wants to run government like a business.
My mom told me my uncle and his wife won't get vaccinated "because of the stuff (they're) seeing." She replied, "like what? People getting fevers and not dying?!?" He's 78 and has cancer, his wife is in her 60s and works at a fucking hospital. Infuriating.
I am so angry about Texas. So angry. It is irresponsbile and I think Abbott wants to try to distract from his responsiblities in the power failures from two weeks ago that killed several people.
H and I will be fully vaccinated by the end of the month and I was all excited to go out to dinner at a restaurant. Not anymore. Sigh.
It’s total distraction. The freeze killed 51 in Houston alone. He’s totally trying to shift the talk from the power grid failures.
I’m so pissed about Texas! My dad works retail and I KNOW he’s going to have to deal with maskholes. He at least gets his first vaccine shot this week, but fuck this.
Argh, I can't wait for others to start screaming that Texas is open and so we should be, too.
I hate everything.
My sister lives in MS and her governor just made the same announcement as Texas, so it's starting. She's a restaurant worker but had covid and now recently got her first dose of the vaccine THANK GOD. She said it's already been crowded because people are coming in with their tax money so once the floodgates open, it's going to be bad.
My MIL just got her first shot! I have no idea how since she's technically not eligible in our state, but obviously I'm happy about it. That means all of our parents and grandparents have now gotten at least the first shot. Hooray!!
My chance to get it feels like it's getting closer and closer even though I'm at the end of the line. Hopefully I'm right!
My parents want to come visit in a few weeks and I agreed since numbers are falling and they both have their shots and my H will have both too. I asked them to test at least one of them before coming and my dad started huffing and puffing about why should he because he's protected. And I was all "BECAUSE I'M NOT!! DO YOU WANT ME TO DIE?!" And now I want to just cancel the whole thing. LOL
I'm surprised Texas has a mask mandate. Everyone in my social media feed is masked and outside. Except the Texans. Who seem to be happily gathering indoors like it's 2019.

Ding ding ding ding! Totally a way to regain favoritism. I live in SoCal now, but my entire family and all of my friends are in Texas. We haven't visited since last January and had hoped to go home at the end of April once tax season is over (my busy time). But now? Nope.
Teachers get in line: "With the bolstered supply, Biden also announced he would be using the powers of the federal government to direct all states to prioritize vaccinating teachers, and said the federal government would provide the doses directly through its pharmacy program. He challenged states to administer at least one dose of the vaccine to all teachers by the end of March as part of his administration’s efforts to reopen more schools across the nation."
Abbott is definitely using this as a distraction. I'm curious if this will prompt my company to start bringing people back to our Texas office. I hope not, they really can't distance properly there.
Actually, I'm wrong. It was just the ND House. It's in the Senate now. But I wouldn't be surprised if it passes, because.....North Dakota.
The two articles I read (posted GF herald one above) are that this is banning future mask mandates, not just lifting. Correct me if I am wrong, but mask mandate was lifted a while back in ND, right? My inlaws are so mad. Thankfully they got their second dose last week.

It's such a mixed bag day - the first J&J vaccines are being administered in Dallas County and the whole state of Texas is now a dumpster fire. This is just a play by Abbott to get attention away from power grid failures. In the Trump era we would have gotten a congratulatory tweet from the President, at least we can rest easy knowing that isn't coming from Biden.

Correct. The mask mandate was lifted weeks ago, not sure exactly when because I only go to Costco and work, both of which require masks.
This law is banning future mask mandates, which is so fucking stupid because no one can know what happens in the future.
Fucking ND. I'm glad your ILs got their vaccines! The only thing ND has going for them right now is that we have a super high vaccine rate.

This seems overly optimistic, but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.
My state is only planning to open eligibility to 60+ through the end of March, and 40+ through the end of May. My age group (30-39) doesn't become eligible until June under our current plan.

I feel this way at first glance too - my state has tiered groups of priority going through June right now. But maybe the J&J vaccine really will be able to be ramped up super quickly. I think a lot of states were making projections without taking J&J into account (which is smart, better safe than sorry until you know it's been authorized).
ETA - also, having enough *supply* for all adults by the end of May is not the same as getting all shots in arms by the end of May. I'd fully expect the distribution piece to take several months longer.
Interesting. I was doing the math out based on the average # of doses per day in my state, population of adults, and assuming 30% either won't or can't get it and at our current rate that should have everyone vaccinated by mid May. I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously this is a super simplistic approach, but with supply ramping up, it made me feel a little better about how long I might have to wait. I will be very happy if our state finally moves teachers up.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ The Texas morons have already started calling for masks to be removed from schools. My district has already stated they will be following local health expert recommendations. Thank goodness.
